Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

I did that after, though…

There are no gameplay changes but they wanna attract a wider audience than the hardcore 3s fanbase. I think they?ll do it by going balls out with the online match making features. I would like to see filters for country, region, connection strength, etc. I would like to see custom tournament options, perhaps the ability to do online Dan ranking battles, or regional ranbats.

In the end, I really only care about one thing: an arcade PERFECT port. I wanna be able to practice for arcade 3s w/o timing issues.

its gonna be extended training mode. btw changing tiers doesn’t really mean anything cept there is a new top tier that people will exploit. i dunno why people care. chun is a dope top tier. in 2i sean and ibuki were dope and you’d be complaining about why wasn’t ken better. well now he is . and…
see the point. get better.

Chun is always good no matter what. In fact, lag would make her better.

Chun is still good online, but she’s definitely worse. It’s harder to hit confirm, whiff punish, and react to dashes. Sometimes some of those are impossible depending on the connection.

As long as I can choke heads with makoto the slap them in the face then punch them 5 times in the penis then smash their chins idgaf. Chun/yun is good but not unbeatable, just like every other top tier in any other game in existence. And note, tiers have to do with performance, not potential. If ken started winning tourneys more than yun, tiers would be revised once again.

Quoted for goddamn truth.

I just hope this is the first step towards getting a possible 4th installment of the game with new characters. If they can really do well on this version and make it neigh perfect with all the training/online modes, that will give them the foundation to go for the next installment. It might have a small audience in this saturated 2011 of fighting games, but SF3 should be a franchise.

Are you high dude? It’s pretty much a given that SF4 has merged the two franchises, probably more so whenever SF5 happens.

You can’t improve upon perfection. So why bother making a 4th game?

I think this is basically the mantra of everyone who has been playing the game (in some form) for a while. At least it has been for me too. Get a bit pissy when I see people complain about what they want to SEE being played by other people. Not what they can simply do themselves. I think probably 99% of the people who even mention something like ‘Chun, Yun and Ken’ don’t actually play the game. If you play the game you know some characters are strong, that doesn’t stop the game from being awesome or exciting to PLAY.

As for no gameplay changes but not being for just hardcore:

I think this means a load of statistics for online play and a very deep online system with ladders and all that shit built in from the start. People enjoy being able to see a list of numbers (See Halo, CoD, BF, etc) about their abilities and progress. It will have achievements too which is very much a ‘casual’ element. No gameplay changes means no gameplay changes. It isn’t that hard to understand. You don’t need to make the game simpler to attract new people.

And regardless, what would you simplify to attract players to 3S? In all honesty the game is simpler than 4. It’s not as straight up easy but it’s got a lot less awkward inputs and weird timing. It’s just in 3S experience counts for a whole lot more and the game is more heavily reliant on stuff outside just knowing block-strings/ultra setups.

Balancing the game (or trying to rather) is not going to attract new people because they don’t even know what is unbalanced about the game as it is right now. So that’s a terrible argument. The name Street Fighter and a robust and deep online/training mode will attract new people because it allows a way to ‘get in on the action’.

There’s absolutely no reason to change the gameplay.

No I am not “high”. I just like to see where things can go. Random thoughts about the game and wishful thinking maybe.

SF4 didn’t MERGE anything. It’s just part 4 in a long line of SF games. The CULMINATION and LATEST INSTALLMENT of said game, if you will. No one that worked on the game, to my knowledge, has come out and said SF4 is the combination of Third Strike and SF4. “Hey Seth K is SF4 here to appease the 3S fans?” I’m sure he’d laugh at that if asked off the record and in private. SF4 is just an updated version of SF2 with characters from all other incarnations. Why I am debating pointless stuff with you again?

I mean your stuck in 1999 as if you don’t like the PREMISE of a next iteration. If it SUCKS then go play Third Strike. Go look up the word perfect if your unsure of it’s meaning cause you use it as a catch phrase like everyone who’s debated this stuff on SRK from years ago. Yeah its an amazing game that I spent 4 hours playing today, but the cart it is in no sense of the word … perfect. Nix that idea promptly please good sir. I’d love to see a new version just to watch new match ups. I’ve only been viewing vids/playing the game for 2 years and yeah I still see new stuff, but I’d like to witness it evolve… if just in the cast (no balance changes).

I suppose the biggest issue with a team from capcom trying to change/update the game is that the original team is prolly not around anymore, so the new team could easily, and quite frankly, &*^% the game up totally. I understand that issue. I suppose I just hope they’d know what they are doing and take it to the next phase in the spirit of where the original team was taking it.

Enough from me…

Dude.

‘Perfect’ is what you make of it. If you can’t understand someone’s usage of the word perfect as an opinion you’re dumb as a brick or like to argue for absolutely no reason.

Why come to the 3S boards to tell the people who still play 3S and prefer it that we should like a new version (with new characters???) of our game. No one is ‘stuck as hell’. We just know what we enjoy. We’re not looking for the next big thing to jump on with everyone else. How could we still be playing this game and NOT be enamored with it?

SF4 did merge things. Where do you think EX came from? Dashing? Two button grabs? You don’t think FADC is developed from the concept of active defense (such as parrying). SF4 is SF2 flavored but absolutely not like SF2. It continues trends developed in SF3 and the Alpha series. Not to mention the character selection.

No one wants new characters or balance changes or anything other than cosmetics like design your own color and 2I stages and music. Why? Because we’ve been playing the game for years and years and still play it. If you’ve been playing a game for 6+ years you’re not really that psyched about changes.

Don’t get me started on needing to see new matchups. Christ. If you don’t like vanilla then don’t eat vanilla. You don’t go over to the guys who like vanilla and tell them they need to change. Just because you think chocolate chips would be such a GREAT addition doesn’t mean the vanilla guys do. They prefer their vanilla exactly as they remember it.

New Generation, also. Especially NG’s super art portal backdrop thingy.

Honestly, what good will a 4th game accomplish? Nothing. We all know that the current team at Capcom will scrubify the game, just like SF4. The only thing this will do is piss off the hardcore 3S fans - you know, the people who have been keeping the game alive for over a decade. These people love the game for what it is. The people who are joining/are about to join the 3S community are just joining so they can ride the 3SO Hype Train. Sure, there are some people who actually want to get good at the game but the majority will just play it for a month or two and then go back to SF4.

That’s what people do around here - jump on that new shit and then abandon it for the next new shit that comes along. Will people still be playing SSF4AE when SF5 comes out? I highly doubt it.

What happens WHEN (not IF) the game turns out to be a scrubby SF4-esque piece of shit? What happens when the game’s target audience isn’t playing the game? Who will be the target audience now? SF4 players? Tch, that’s like a slap in the face.

What YOU want to see doesn’t warrant a new game, just to appease you.

Just going to point this out. The only ones bitching are about 20-30 dudes tops. Who make up a minority of people who love 3S. Keep that in mind.

I think it’s safe to assume the majority of 3S players want to play 3S. Not 3.5S. Hence leave the game alone. If it’s going to be released yet again then make it as close to the original game as possible.

like i said the majority of the people that want a rebalance will only play the game for a few months then move to/back the ssf4:ae dlc so why bother to rebalance when they’re aiming for hardcore players

like i said louiscipher try to port to a game to a different programing language also add in some extra options and some good netcode. Now you see why its taking so long?

here chose a game or engine

Yeah I don’t know why when people hear port they think “easy”. Proof should be all the poor ports done on xbox 360 and ps3. Those are done by proffessionals and they’re all kinds of screwed up. To do a “perfect” port is no small feat. If they pull that off it will be incredibly impressive and awesome for us.

Exactly, which is why the wait is killing me but it’ll be worth it. As a Hugo player I actually want Akuma’s f.mp in all its annoying arcade quality. It’s the right thing to do, I even feel guilty throwing Akuma out of it so easy on console. Bring it on you f.mp spammers, I’m ready for you with my 2x parry slight pause for f.mp invincibility to end Gigas.
