Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

That’s…that’s pretty fucking cool. Such a random little improvement, really showing how polished this game is. I hope other teams take note of how it’s done.

Chris G sucks at 3s. Whoever mentioned his name should be banned from this thread. Also, lolxibition.

Oh really? I thought that was just part of the movelist menu, that’s what I saw anyway.

unfortunately that’s all it was apparently. you could hear everyone in the audience going nuts when that happened and then they figured it was just the moves list and there was a lot of disappointment…

As I thought…

BTW, where’d your avatar come from? I’ve never seen a Pocket Fighters styled Oro before.

Get the ffffuuuuuuuck outta heerrrreeeeee~

And that was the most stylish character movelist option I’ve ever seen.

No offense to the players you mentioned, but about the last thing I’d think would make a 3s exhibition more exciting are a Remy, Oro and/or Sean (save for people who actually main those characters).

Oro always makes things exciting.

When Ken taunted and everyone went “oooooooh”, you knew they had no idea about 3rd Strike.

yea thats what i thought at first and then when he went back it was actually just a character move list. i think thats what a lot of other people thought as well from the crowd reaction, but its basically the same feature that is in all capcom games, but it has pictures now. i was very ‘meh’ after that moment. i mean, even Xmen COTA had a quick character select feature, i havent seen it since.

Oh, really? Well that’s deflating.

This. A lot of people think you need to play bad characters for a game to be exciting/interesting and it just doesn’t work that way. Hell it could’ve been plenty exciting with Rockefeller commentating. And I think the players present pandered to scrubs well enough with a remy mirror and no, it wasn’t any more exciting then those guys playing their mains. I’m pretty sure a character that can’t do anything vs another character that can’t do anything isn’t going to manifest into hype.

If ppl want to see so many unpopular characters they’re more than welcome to hop on stream and show them off themselves. Considering the player selection I think ppl had a better shot at this then they realize.

kens taunt increases the opponents sodium levels…

Actually, Chris G’s Ibuki made Gooteck’s Urien look pretty sad at the CEO 3S tournament.

To be honest I think the timing of an exhibition was wrong. I caught a little bit of it but I didnt see the whole thing myself. From what I hear though is it was after the MK9 finals. I mean everyones going to be too hyped for finals to throw an exhibition in there and breaking up the momentum. It should have probably gone on before any finals started.

The game itself looks great, no doubt its going to be a success. The stream “monsters” were just doing what they do like a pack of hyenas. There were some more reserved streamers in there, from the part I saw, that were enjoying watching the game and had some pretty good stuff to say. I dont have any doubts about how this game will be received.

Also what didnt help was the exhibition turned into a Chun Li fest. I do agree in some part with Cheech Wizard, everyone knows what Chun, Ken and Ryu are like sure they can be fun to play and watch in 3S but people who havnt played it would be more drawn in at 1st by something theyve not seen. They should have got a more diverse range and told the players to stick with their mains. Its not everything but it is one thing about 3S that draws people in is the diversity in characters and it would have maybe come across better with some Twelve, Urien, Elena or Necro representation just to show how unique some of the designs and play styles are compared to other SF games.

3S is going to do well. It was just bad timing in the tournament for an exhibition when everyones just hyped for finals. People will come around to it once its launched and buy it. To those who are new to 3S and havnt experienced it fully, dont let the monsters scar your opinion of the game and put you off buying it. Its going to be great.

I’ve got a question about 12’s SA2: Why does it do less damage to an airbourne opponent? Is this a glitch or something?

I’d agree. It was supposed to happen either before or right after the Tekken final. And watching Tekken is like watching paint dry so after that was done, suddenly it’s MK Finals. So they definitely fucked that up. They should’ve had an actual tournament, invite all comers, problem solved. Put it on another stream, like say against Tekken, I can’t tell you how many people were bored out of their minds watching that and then another half hour dedicated to Tekken Tag, but you didn’t want to leave the stream in case you miss something.

Way better solution than getting 5 guys to play casuals, and 4 of them are rusty as fuck.

Wow… wtf is going on with these forums these days?

Also, the hate on SF4’s input system is a wtf.
It’s not the inputs that are necessarily “more strict” in other games… It’s that you don’t have a month to finish the inputs.

Was it just me or is there no way to go back to character select from the in-game pause menu? I watched them quit out to the main menu a couple times…

Agreed. I was happy to see some Makoto play, since I’ve pretty much decided she’s the one I’m going to use in 3SO (but what was up with SA3? I thought nobody uses SA3?). But having the exhibition when they did was a bad idea. Everyone was so incredibly hyped after MK9, and ready to go with MvC3, and they pull out some matches that don’t mean anything. Its the same reason why the NFL’s Pro Bowl is a failure: You have it during/after the playoffs at the point where nobody wants to see a meaningless game.

I, for one, was excited for the 3SO exhibition, because I want to learn what I can about the game before its launch, but they did not schedule it right. I’m thinking the better spot may have either been after AE on Friday night, or sometime on the 2nd stream. The crowd wasn’t into it, the number of stream viewers went down, and I think Keits posted on Twitter how there were people chanting “We want Marvel!” I’m not sure how the MvC3 5-on-5 went (Missed it–I had to work early the next morning.), but I can’t imagine that got as bad of a reception as 3SO (despite those matches also seeming relatively meaningless.).

I know 3SO plays differently than SSF4 and all, but I know Chun-Li, Ken, Dudley, and so on. I really wanted to see some Urien, Remy, Alex (got a good chunk of that, at least) Hugo, and Necro play. My favorite match was the Remy mirror, oddly enough.
