I’m not sure there’s some specific dividing line between new and old here. The high res version of the HUD just looks like shit. Are we suddenly not allowed to critique? The portraits just look awful. I know why it was done and all but it simply looks bad. I’m not convinced the sounds will actually be different as you can probably set BGM/SFX levels in options. I was playing on the AE collection version last night and the sound of a body hitting the ground is fucking loud when you’re not really doing anything or too focused on the match.
Capcom is marketing everything very strangely but whatever, we’ll all see how things ended up in August. All these minor quibbles are forgivable if the game plays 99.5% at the speed of arcade and doesn’t have any other version specific issues. If online runs well too that’s a bonus.
The person who made the portraits is obviously a good artist, but you can tell that this was his first time doing a project like this for a major game.
I just want it to PLAY arcade perfect, I will get use to the HUD, and get use to Ryu’s bag staying on the screen. Just make it play well capcom.
Like yeah I wish they kept it completely arcade perfect with the hud and the Aegis Reflector and stuff, but going off of what Capcom has been like lately I knew that was asking for too much. >.>
I was referring to the HUD portraits btw. Not sure if you were responding or what Little_Goten. Probably not.
Yeah he can do really nice stuff. There were some nice pieces I saw of his. He’s worked for DC I think?
So I’m wondering about this specific scenario and if it is already possible or what. I was trying to have the cpu jump in parry but I can’t find the proper way to set that up. Do you just switch controller ports after recording yourself jump in parry and then AA your recorded self? There didn’t seem to be a straightforward way to do this. Either I missed something or there just isn’t. In which case I would like to see those kinds of things in OE.
Does anyone know if options in training were expanded at all? Or is it just the fast reset that we’re getting that’s different from the AE version?
Yeah, the portraits look more like anatomy practice to me, that’s not to say he’s bad at drawing but he definitely doesn’t have a feel for the characters, like he’s out of his comfort zone or something.
Hey sorry if im coming across as a troll, just trying to show the SFIV stereotype is as stupid as the 3s elitist one. I guess I should realise I’m doing something wrong when louiscipher ‘likes’ my posts (no offense).
The training mode should def be SFIV/Marvel 3 standard, not shitty console 3s training mode standard!
I know what you mean about the deviantart feel, but they actually look quite good at high res. Not as good as the messy, sketched feel though imo
For what they are, as poster art and pinup art they’re top notch. Maybe that’s why I’m not feeling his 3S character art: there’s so little relaxed movement and they’re all in forced generic poses. That’s just me talking though. shrug
Also, it’s normal for somebody to nitpick about something they don’t really like much. Like I said before, I don’t mind these minor visual and audio changes because at the core of it all(gameplay) it’s still 3rd Strike. That doesn’t mean I should feel obligated to praise the shitty-looking interface/HUD and unnatural-looking new character art by Artgerm.
And I want to set the record straight for the last time: I don’t mind the fact that they remastered the original sound effects to the point where they sound super beefy. I am JUST NOT USED TO IT BEING SO BEEFY. It’s like transitioning from watching VHS tapes on a CRT for years to a DVD on a plasma TV. Obviously one’s eyes aren’t going to be able to handle it at first.
Nah, bruh-bruh. You gotta chill with that. Everything about the game is fitting with the dirty sketch style. Look at the classic arcade intro, even. Its nothing but sketches and lineart. Lol.
Yun looks fucking crazy eyed in that illustration. Like as if someone just stepped on his shoe or something.
What the hell are those yellow/gold things made of anyway? The way it’s drawn makes it totally impossible as anything but a tattoo but I love the look of it. They look properly thin and wirey but strong like Bruce Lee. Also that hand is gorgeous; hands in perspective are easily one of the most difficult things to draw.
The new illustration is a bit weird, Yun just looks super fucking buff.
I have the Vampire art book. So many wonderful illustrations. That illustrator specifically did some really beautiful work for Hunter, not sure beyond that though.
Old capcom used to work for their artists, down to the hardware specs. The reason why Capcom Play Systems had such weird resolutions is to give their artists the illusion of a half pixel.
I think that’s Yun’s CvS2 art. The art in that game was fucking sick. Anyways, I got tired of SFIV 3 years ago but stuck with it since it was the hot shit. I’m glad to be getting back on 3s. Wish I had my damn stick though…looks like I’m grinding this out on a 360 controller. I’m looking forward to playing a lot of you dudes I used to play with on Anniversary Collection on xbl. I’m sure I’ll see a few familiar names pop up.
What are YOU talking about? we don’t care about the balance or lack thereof. We’re used to the game. We’re used to the game. We’re used to the game. We were promised an arcade perfect port. So far, things have been shown to be not arcade perfect. We’re ‘bitching’ because we’re being lied to before the game is even out.
About the HUD. You know, it’s not very difficult to redraw some lines, right? Since they’ve changed the HUD (to something other than what it could have been), they could have easily just redrew the original HUD, coded it in to scale with the game, and all would have been happy.
About the sounds: They shouldn’t have been modified so greatly in the first place. Sound mixing is an art form. No matter what genre you are in, sound mixing is important. As I said previously, they could have properly mixed the higher quality sounds without dramatically increasing the volume of the sounds. The good thing is that it’s some that will take less than 5 matches to get used to.
This is a post from this morning that I thought I submitted but failed to. I’m submitting it now so I can change my damned tab.
