Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

^ In fact, if my understanding is correct the OE GGPO may end up working as well as ST or the alpha games on GGPO, which’d be like, the best possible thing ever.

I just hope it doesn’t have that thing where I hit you cleanly but the game goes back in time a second and lets you hit me instead. I really hate it when that happens. Makes you wanna slap yo momma.

It probably would if the connection lags badly. Thats it how it works isnt it? Taking you back to the most recent accurately synched point. So if you lag badly enough then it will do that even on OE I guess but if the connections running solidly then it should only drop 1 or 2 frames backwards and kick back in before you even notice. Im not exactly sure how much that affects frame data. Its a bit weird how it works really but I hope it works well enough to be adopted or at least set the bar for other FGs in the future.

Most modern fighters are too resource heavy to run something as intensive as GGPO (or whatever the excuse given was) but Blazblue is pretty good so it’s not all gloom if games can’t run GGPO and proof Japan can make netcode that’s good outside of Japan.

Turn off input delay… you’ll see what’s really happening on screen and gives you additional reaction time… however you’re not fooled into seeing something different, so a shitty connection feels extra shitty…

3S is really no good on GGPO client(perhaps better on console) @ >110 pings…

How good does the internet connection have to be, btw? I’m running 12mbps down and 5mbps up, btw.

As for turning off input delay, are you saying I will be playing in slow motion? Cause I would be down for that. It’s how offline 3s feels for me because of that eye of the tiger. YOU KNOW.

GGPO Smoothing.
input delay - 1 (15-20 ping)
input delay - 2 (30-70 ping)
input delay - 3 (80-115 ping)

If you’re running vista or windows 7, make sure you turn the theme to “classic”. (uses less resources)

Should be good to go if you have steady internet. Playing with 0 smoothing isn’t recommend for Third Strike, ever.

Yeah I heard it too & I think it is true since it’s going to incorporate GGPO’s netcode for online play.

I mean the whole GGPO program doesn’t work…at all. Click icon, enter name, enter password, get nothing in return. No list of games, no list of people playing games, no map, just the same entry screen. Been doing this on my antique laptop (Windows XP) so I uninstalled. Have a brand new laptop from college so I might try again on that.

I had this same problem but I noticed they recently upgraded to 0.30 and have been using that without a problem. Maybe it’ll work for you as well if you haven’t upgraded since 0.29.

Bandwidth does not really matter as long as you’re above 1M or even 512k.
What’s really important is the quality of your response time (ping) and its stability with your opponent.
ISPs (ADSL ones at least, idk for cable) sometimes have an option to decrease noticeably ping by reducing error correction and, therefore, the global quality of your connection if you’re far from your ISP server or your connection is not enough stable.

I’m really picky about input delay in my games…

I’d rather not have smoothing than knowing there was something I can react to in a reasonable time frame normally and not being able to do so due to input delay…

Seriously, frames count, especially in fighting games… try playing with it and without…

You’ll probably notice a difference in your performance…

Also… rollbacks… I’d rather just see what is really happening on screen, rather than see one thing and have it correct itself and I’m the one getting hit etc.

But if you see tons of rollbacks, you are most likely have a crappy connection to your opponent anyway…

any news when this is going to drop…?

Supposedly the end of August. Nothing official AFAIK.

we’ve known the suicide battery of the original CPS3 board of 3s, is there any chance that 3s oe will release arcade version? That’s what im concerned about, if that so, it will be much beneficial for this great game!!!

doubtful. nothing is being added to the gameplay that would justify an arcade re-release. capcom of japan still has a coin-op department that fixes dead 3S hardware.

yes, but that’s just for japanese players, right? What about thousands of 3s players all over the world?

How?? They’ve optimized OE to be like arcade even down to scanlines and the arcades…well…yeah…

cuz real fighters play fighting games on Arcade, not console.
