Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

Please come out so I don’t have to play MvC3 anymore ;_;

So the “Special Advisor” S-Kill would receive all of the glory and none of the blame for SF4? That guy is such a glory hog, he is always at the epicenter of any SF promotion, there is no doubt in my mind that he was a direct contributor to the SF4 concept, and everything that was wrong with it. I am seriously dissappointed in Ono too, coming from SF3 and all, but I don’t hear him blabbing about what was wrong with SF3 when he doesn’t even know the character he is using. I simply dont understand the reason for Seth or Ono’s involvement with the game. I feel like if they had their way they would have rebalanced it and made it 2.5D if they thought it would make a quick buck.

Anyway, the topic is SF3 OE, I’m just relieved that Derek Neal is producing this game and wish that Killian would just stay out of business he knows nothing about.

WHAT are you talking about? Seth Killian is a community leader. He has nothing to do with the development of the game. Send all that shit to Ono and his team of devs and “awesome testers”. Seth is a KNOWN player and tournament winner, so I’d say he knows something about the games.

In his position, his job is to tell us what to expect and to try to tell the devs what we want.

Good idea, keeping tabs on the game like that. It might come in handy later if Capcom decides a patch is necessary. I was toying with a similar idea myself. On a more positive note does anyone remember when is the next scheduled public showing of 3SO?

New Artgerm art for Yun. I wonder if I should make a new Deal With It .gif.

Fuck off! If not for Seth pushing for it, they wouldn’t have been using 990512.

P.S. Really don’t think you should be badmouthing one of the guys who founded this site. That, and he can probably body you left and right, all day, all night, cross handed without breaking a sweat.

Seth’s really that good?

I so wanna play him now!

Yeah, while he’s definitely not Daigo, MOV, Kuroda, Momochi, Deshiken, he’s nice with his skills. He knows how to play the games. He’s no scrub.

sven said that thousands more people will get to play it at comic-con and evo, so the game should be on display at those events. the downside is that i interpret his statements as a guarantee that it won’t be out this month.

Yea shinkuu you really have some ill directed hate for Seth because he is just a community manager and IMO he is good at his job.
You really shouldn’t take people not liking 3rd strike to your heart because alot of people have said that for example Daigo has admitted not enjoying 3S and played it just because it was the newest SF (as he does with SF4), people just enjoying different things. 3S has gotten too much flak though, the game was just released at a bad time (and poorly advertised).

Now on topic, why do you guys think this arcade perfect version has so many errors in it if the arcade version was used as a base?

One of two reasons:

  1. If it’s really the arcade version, they’re erroneously using source patches to work to closer console parity, which is a terrible mistake.

  2. If it’s the console version, they’re working to source patch up to the arcade version. Not optimal, but definitely better than option one. The problem here is not knowing which console version they’re using for the base source?

Either way, it wouldn’t be arcade perfect with these two options. D:

I still have a question to ask that’s remained unanswered…

Are the console colors going to be included?

Are so much win.

Man, someone has been drinking the Seth kool-aid too long. Again, he founded this site…therefore he is going to pound me at 3S? You sound like a Seth Fanboy, I’d destroy Seth with any character so let’s not get hasty assuming I’m the world’s worst 3S player.
Anyway, now that you mention it, they are using 990512- does anyone know the difference as far as gameplay with the console ports? Is it slower, faster? What exactly does it change as far as dip-switch options or system direction? A friend was telling me it uses “new blocking” or something?

There’s actually a thread for the differences between arcade and consoles (as well as differences between the consoles themselves).

I assume you mean graphical errors.

There’s no strong explanation. The only thing I can come up with, and the thinking I hope is true, is that when they were originally porting the game, they began changing certain things first before digging around in the code. Or rather when they were bringing the code into the new system, they had to patch up a few things before they really started to work on it. So my hope is 3SOE looks that way because it is based off the original form the port was in and then went from there.

In other words they started from 1, not 0 and continued onward and unfortunately due to some process somewhere certainl graphic files had to be modified or patched up when everything was opened up to work on. Based on my completely unfounded explanation that would mean they worked to make the game run properly from there and simply missed the little (or not so little) graphical modifications from when the game was originally moved from cps3.

I’m sure that sounds like gibberish and I’d really like to hear what jedpossum thinks of all this since he seems to know that end of things better than most.

Thanks for your thoughts bmckay I can see how the first option would be bad. I won’t mind either if the second option is what they are doing as long as it doesn’t have a effect gameplay. Either way only the “most arcade perfect port up to date” holds true.
Tebbo, I would also like to wish that was the case, but what I know as of now makes me uncertain. Wait and see I suppose.

Edit: Did a little reading in the port differences thread (should have probably before) and seems like they really are using the 990512 version as a base. I hope their claims for feeling like the arcade really holds truth.

I just want the gameplay to be the same as the arcade version, and for the online to be good. Couldn’t care less about anything else.

Hoping to god that there are no balance patches. Street Fighter IV is filled with that shit. I hate learning a character, then finally getting good with that character, and then getting my shit nerfed because halfway around the world, someone performed too well with my character and the community deemed that character too powerful.

I can deal with getting fucked up by ten thousand Chun and Ken players, as long as Elena is still the same.

I worked at Acclaim Entertainment between 94-96. Based on some knowledge about Sony’s business tactics, I can say they discouraged 2d fighters. PS1’s lack of RAM made for some real crappy 2d fighters. If you wanted to play a 2d fighter that was close to it’s arcade counter part you had to play on a Saturn with a 4MB RAM Card (the Saturn pad was great too). PS1 gave us Street Fighter in 3d!

@Little Goten

Characters get nerfed and buffed for each iteration of a game. You do know there were nerfs/buffs in the three iterations of SF3? SF3 2nd Impact Sean went from almost the best to the worst in 3s. So I think you might lack perspective on this matter.

I know . . . I just dislike it when scrubs ask for patches for each and every little thing and Capcom obliges them. Some bad characters are constantly made worse, and some just get nerfed into the ground. I don’t want the same thing to happen again in Third Strike.

Think of what would happen if Capcom decided to balance-patch 3S. Chun and Yun would probably become the worst characters in the game by the time they were through, and then everyone would be complaining about Makoto and Dudley. Shit would never end.

do you happen to have Marshmallow Ryu?

You mean this?
