Why do you need commentary for matches? Back in the day I used to watch either Evo videos with no commentary period or KSK ranbats with Japanese people screaming shit. I just took the matches for what they were as being hype and just analyzed the fights themselves. Like even when I watch stream matches now, I usually dont pay attention to the garbage people usually say. Just pick out what people are doing in the matches and learn from it or go on the forums and relate to the video with other people. You dont need people talking randomness just to enjoy a match.

I dont really. I watch them without but if its got some that I can understand then thats a bonus. Sometimes the chat can be pretty funny or they talk about properties of moves you may not have known about without the commentary being there. Just a nice extra really because I dont always have time to go through forums and find that stuff out so it saves time aswell.

Good “technical” commentary from dudes that know a fuc’ing game is definitely a huge bonus. It’s one of the things I’m most excited about the 3S return with the streaming potential. Up till now all the commentary in Jap. No short of hype tho. LOL

should be VERY playable unless you are on wireless and people raping your connection with yt/torrent or whatever.

first time I played GGPO it was EC to WC and for a min I thought I was fighting the computer because I didnt even notice any lag. it was…majicc :eek:

not really too much input lag on GGPO, you can land all your combos etc. But the small amount of lag that is prevalent, does really does seem to surface when you start trying to do things such as tech throw, block resets, confirm supers and all that tight frame stuff. Yeah Frame skipping is also another issue. Iit’s playable (just) but still very far from offline. Hopefully 3SO will be better though, as 3S is not even fully supported on GGPO.

hey triplejjj, i actually never knew about poison’s colours being wrong on console until you mentioned it. looking at the palette site, is it possible that capcom improved that for dc (and later ports) by making more poison palettes to match hugo’s colours? in an emulator i can only get 3 poisons: 1p, 2p, and one for the secret colour. just wondering so it’ll be one less mystery.

If it works like ST/A2 the possibility is quite high.

However, if the only thing you’ve ever play on GGPO is 3s then you’ll have a hard time understanding what the fuss is over ggpo.

Yup, you are right Capcom for some unknown reason changed those colours for Hugo in all console versions of Third Strike as far as I recall. Minor story tidbit, according to Jwangggg, the character with 2p Hugo in the arcade version is actually Roxy. I think this was first mentioned on pg 58 of the thread. There is also special intro with Yang’s cat if you win 3 games in a row vs a human opponent, but I haven’t been able to play the PS2 version in years so I don’t know if its in or not. The final Third Strike easter egg that I remember not being on console was Urien’s time out pose in the Japanese arcade version, I guess its was censored because of the blood. And yes before anyone gets around to mentioning it, I’m a sucker for these little frilly extras and happen to love em.

starts talking about it at 16:35. on ps3, the select button (either that or a shoulder button, can’t really tell) lets you save the state at a certain time, then the same button replays it beginning at your chosen point.

About Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition's Graphics And Filters... -...

“We didn’t redraw the graphics, of course, those are done with filters and things like that,” Seth Killian, Strategic Marketing Director of Online & Community, said in an interview with Siliconera. “Even though there are just filters, there was still a lot of work put into that.”

Killian dug into the details, “There are three filters, including an unfiltered version and we can’t take any credit for that. Even when the other two filters are applied they are applied on a per character basis. The way the original characters were drawn they were shaded differently. The use of negative space and shadows varies across characters. Even if you apply a filter that looks good overall to some of the characters, it doesn’t necessarily look good to all of the characters.”

“That’s not even really where most of the money was spent. A lot of backend technology to implement our own game system of achievements and systems of unlocks. It was a matter of getting into the basics of the code and tearing the code apart from the arcade side to implement it properly. For 3rd Strike it’s the first time where we’ve had access to the source code, which really paid off,” Killian concluded. Ripping apart the source code let Capcom add in replay sharing over Xbox Live/PlayStation Network and YouTube. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition also runs on its own external servers.

Since Capcom made HD remixes of Super Street Fighter II and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, I asked Killian why they didn’t give Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online the same treatment.

“It was a very different time for fighting games, that was even before Street Fighter IV had been released. In terms of energy, interest, audience and things like that it wasn’t necessarily there,” Killian replied. “We also didn’t have that kind of filtering approach happening properly. Our thinking was it needed to have that. We were able to strike a good deal with a few studios at the time to try and produce those animations. It ended up costing a lot more and being a more difficult process than we anticipated, which is part of why it didn’t happen. It’s literally eye candy, right?”

“It is… and I think older gamers that remember Street Fighter III are fine with this,” I answered. “However, I also see younger gamers who are quite critical of visuals if isn’t as shiny as I don’t know… Street Fighter X Tekken.”

“There is a crowd there you may not be able to win over and I understand that. It’s a matter of budget and resources and things like that. Also, the Third Strike animations are so beautiful. Redrawing all of those would be – we learned a lot of lessons with HD Remix. We thought it needed that kind of graphical update to be eye catching to the kids there. I don’t know if every ten year old is going to want to run out and buy Third Strike. I mean I think they could and learn to play it, but it’s sort of a love letter to the people asking us for Third Strike for many years. What we’ve created is something respectful of Third Strike that brings the game into the future with better single player modes, really great training modes for parrying, combo challenges and all sorts of stuff.”
