Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

The economic analogy was pretty spot-on from a simplified Capitalist/fighting game perspective. Reducing Yun’s damage by 20% isn’t going to stop him from building meter like a motherfucker, and raising the income tax isn’t going to stop Bill Gates from doing what makes him an insane amount of money.

Air resets into supers are a popular tactic against people who can’t parry well because of the absence of air-blocking, and just about every character has a way to take advantage of it. Ryu could jab after his EX Donkey Kick and fire off an unblockable, unscaled SAI before the opponent hits the ground, for example, and Yun has tons of possible reset shenanigans if Genei Jin was classified as unparriable.

Not necessarily. You’re assuming it costs the same for Capcom to port 3S with online play or completely overhaul the game. If they ported 3S with online and sold 200,000 copies, they would probably make more than they would developing a rebalanced version that sells 400,000 copies. They barely made a profit off of HDR, and I doubt it would be as easy to remix 3S.

HDR is widely disliked by ST players, and lacks real international competition, since only the US plays (not that we really play either. There are very few HDR players, just guys that played ST, and want to have something to play at tournaments).

yeah even if i dislike RC as a whole i think its rather fundamental to the whole ecosystem of the game and removing it would be dumb. but roster tweaks would be okay overall i think. if you removed rc all of a sudden youd have little reason to nerf blanka so things would just get wild from there. its much easier to balance a game within its own system by nerfing/buffing characters in mind. for the same reason i hate OS parry/parry traps and think they’re silly they need to stay in the game.

Sounds like the community died, not that it was split.

Only major differences I remember between the arcade port and PS2 port was a very slight speed increase (things like kara cancels are easier on the arcade), and Akuma’s f.mp no longer being throwable. There was probably a few other things, like the removal of freeze bugs and such…

I like how everyone is calling for yun nerfs. Last time I checked outside of Socal Ken/Chun pretty much win every american tournament unless jpn players show up. And who is rly that nice with Yun in america outside of like Pyro and hsien that have all these dudes up in arms? im guessing most ppl are youtube warriors?

Pleasant surprise.

Wasn’t expecting this so it’s a pleasant surprise. I’m guessing this will be similar to the MvC2 port.

i despise HDR and i stilled played ST but no one else played it besides old men (the local top players) at my arcade and they quit because of lack of competition since everyone that sucked moved onto HDR.

Certain grooves in CvS2 shouldn’t have had rolling in teh 1st place. So a fix there would be more than welcomed

Considering that today was SBO qualifiers for ST in the U.S. it’s more like HDR split everyone into ST and HDR events.

yun is still the 2nd best character in the game and has positive matchups vs almost every char in the top 8 except chun and ken, GJ utterly destroys low tier almost as much as chun. just because 5star/vinny are hella good doesnt mean yun doesnt need a nerf. ken for the record i think is the epitome of balance in 3s and should be the benchmark every character should seek to meet.

Although to be fair, the lack of a Japanese release (Arcade or otherwise) had an effect in addition to the changes to the game.

3S could get rebalanced and still have international play if Capcom allowed it to be downloaded from Japan.

Fuck rebalancing the game.

Trial mode.
Ranking.
A proper tournament mode.

and include NG + 2i with their subsystems.

So high execution shouldn’t be rewarded with results. Instead the character with the most ways to counter poke you into super off of mostly safe shit should be the best in the game? Like i said there are maybe 3 ppl good enough in America for those matchups to matter. There have to be at least 1200 kens.

The economic system is infinitely more complicated than 3S which is why I thought the analogy was as…but whatever I’m gonna try to stay on topic. You are right about the resets, but I’m just splitting hairs by saying that I feel they would still be within the combo realm.
Anyways, it just seems like a bunch of closed minded elitist fucks in here.

As a 3s non-tournament player, I would like to see a rebalance because as a spectator, I like seeing a variety of characters compete at the top levels. In that respect, I think if 3s were given the HDR treatment it would be great as I think SSF2 HDR is the most exciting game to watch at evo overall.

My other requests would be:
hitbox view in training mode
saving of matches
button select like hdr NOT like sf4
fight request in training mode
all 2I stages & music as options

It’s just because more people use Ken and Chun. Sagat got a lot more flak than Ryu during the SF4 rebalancing talks because everybody used Ryu in Vanilla SF4.

Ah. It seems whenever some people talk about HDR, they talk like the whole scene fell apart and SF2 is only a lonely old man’s game now.

Actually, HDR is probably the most balanced fighter Capcom has ever created… Especially considering a Gief (bottom character overall) won the tournament. When was the last time you saw Sean win Third Strike at EVO? Or Dan win EVO for vanilla SF4? Or Hakan/Makoto in SSFIV?

Clearly with each balance games get better. Anyone who’s like “YEAH BRA IT WAS DUH BEST AS IT WAS” either played Chun/Yun competitively or didn’t play in a big enough competitive field to know the difference. Don’t get me wrong. I think Third Strike is the best SF ever made. But to say that it’s perfect. It’s my favorite and I still play it to this day constantly on GGPO (Dudley/Q./Ryu), and I wouldn’t call it perfect.

Yes, let’s re-balance 3S for the sake of spectators.
