Hi all, I just got SF3 3rd strike on Dreamcast off ebay, the japanese version. It won’t load using the Utopia boot disc. It always freezes at 56% loading. Does anyone know how to get this game working? On the flip side I also bought Capcom vs. SNK2 and that loads just fine. The disc appears to be in perfect condition. Someone please halp!
That is actually your first problem there. Utopia is far from the best Boot Disc out there.
Did you burn your Utopia disc using Padus Disc Juggler Demo? If not, then that part of your problem.
Burnt Dreamcast Discs have to follow a certain format that most CD burning apps do not follow.
Just having the right files isn’t enough, Dreamcast is very particular where those boot files are located on what sector of the disc.
I am not going to get into the technical details into the SRK forums as this topic is already in a Grey Area.
Utopia is often used to make self-booting copies which gets into the topic of piracy unfortunately.
Utopia boot disc is actually crap. The original Dev team got arrested some 16 years ago when Sega themselves pressed charges.
In other words, there is only 1 ‘official’ Utopia bootdisc, tany other versions are updated one’s made/“improved” by enthusiasts.
Other discs such as CodeBreaker, BlueCrab’s PSO loader, DC-IE (Import Enabler) and a number of other discs on the market.
The other issue which if comes into play no boot disc an help you is only certain earlier revisions of the Dreamcast can actually read a burned disc.
Better still: track down a Dreamcast mod chip. Easy install, and you won’t need a bout disc to get you imports playing.
Additionally: the GameShark will also allow you to boot imports.
Thanks so much for your help. I went and downloaded DC-IE and burned it with Imgburn. It worked like a charm and I’m now able to play 3rd Strike on my DC!! Now I just need an arcade stick for this thing! Do any of you know of a PS3/4 to DC converter? I know the buttons don’t match up but you could always use the controller in a 6 button config. Anyway lemme know. Thanks again for your help!
i’ve never heard of a ps3/ps4 to DC converter. you could slap a cthulu pcb into your stick though, it supports psx, dc, and ps3 as well as some other older consoles. paradise arcade has the pcb on sale rn https://paradisearcadeshop.com/fgc-console-joystick/1828-toodles-mc-cthulhu.html.
There is a PS1/PS2 to DC controller converter. I used that and it works fine.
Only PS3/PS4 to DC converter I seen made from a Undammed USB encoder and a MC Cthulhu I made a 2 player MC Cthulhu/Undamned USB Converter box for a local guy that wants to make CvS2 great again. [image] [image]
I my self have a Saturn to “DC converter” made with a similar method (F.G. Widget converter and a MC Cthulhu)
The Dreamcast only uses 6 buttons anyways.

@“Jasen Hicks” is going to be selling a updated version of the MC Cthulhu later this month with a built in rj45 jack and the same optional 20 pin header the PS360+ and Brooks UFB uses.
Obviously it cost more than PAS’ OG MC Cthulhu
