Good point, now for another question: Anything free?
Unless XSplit is no longer in beta, it is free to use.
It isn’t free, there’s a super neutered trial version though.
Getting the full version can put a hole in your wallet if you’re very low budget.
But,15 bucks for a 3 month personal license isn’t bad though. Hell,60 bucks for a whole year premium license is pretty good too. It’s still waaaaaay cheaper than xsplit’s competition. That much is for sure.
I was iffy about it until I looked at the prices of similar programs, Xsplit’s a steal, I paid up for a full 2 year premium license and don’t regret it at all.
Put it this way, I have a Wirecast Pro license my work is letting me borrow, and aside from XSplit seeming like more of a resource hog, I still like XSplit more overall.
The only thing I’ve ever felt it was lacking was the ability to edit scenes during a broadcast without making them the currently shown scene.
I won’t be purchasing Xsplit as it’s a pay as you go thing, and if they go under or the servers go down(which has happened before), your program just got nerfed to nothing and your stream now has a great big watermark.
I don’t actively stream, but if I did, I would be staying away from Xsplit, at least at the moment. Now, if they make a pay and you have it for life, without needing to log in, I’m sold.
So I got to try out Wirecast (stupid woman had to remind me it was a demonstration of Wirecast but whatever) and it can’t write to my 7200rpm WD Caviar Black HDD.
It can however, write to my SSD. My SSD is tiny though so I was wondering if there was some way to just have it go through the SSD and then copy from there to the HDD automatically, thought I’d post here than go look. I’ll see if there’s anything out there.
I can’t really help you with VAC as I have never gotten it to work myself, but back when I did use a Dazzle what I did was I just used one of these guys
and plugged my game audio into the microphone port on my computer.
Advice for recording(not streaming) for really cheap? I want to get start doing some game reviews on youtube(with me in the vids going back to gameplay footage).
Unless you’re doing PC games, prepare to spend time, effort and money. Lots of money.
mostly emu but some ps2 games… D=
PS2? You could get one of the cheaper external thingies. You’d have to capture in 480i though.
If you’re using a desktop, get a BT878-based PCI card and capture through S-Video. Produces great results for very cheap (if you buy used). Capturing what’s on your screen is trivial unless your computer is really really really old.
Actually I got Fraps and I can’t quite run any game on super duper high AND record, gotta tone it down most of the time.
Streaming on a budget - what parts of streaming PC can I cut costs on? All I want it for is to stream at 720p ala PJ/SRK Live.
You need a fast computer for one, second you need software like Xsplit or Wirecast and you need some kind of capture card/device.
Not to mention the cables and possibly converters.
Well,if by like PJ/SRK Live then do you mean that you just want to host a lobby where you don’t participate in playing and instead just host and stream? If so then you could skip out on cables (unless you only have composite ones) and converters for now.
well yeah but that’d just be 480i. Also, don’t forget software.
