Hey guys! I’m looking to set up a recording/streaming setup.
I already bought, installed and tested my Black Magic Intensity Pro to work with my 360 via HDMI running at 72p at 59.97 (I forget, it’s the one right under 60) and I moved on to test my Wii and PS2. I can’t seem to get those to work. Everything is in properly and it’s set to read from component and at NTSC progressive. Just isn’t goimg through.
Also: My diagram for the eventual full setup:
I just thought I’d see how people what people who know better think of the setup.
EDIT: If anyone can point me to lagless and loseless HDMI, Component and VGA splitters I’d appreciate it.
Also need loseless (doesn’t need to be lag free) VGA to component and HDMI to component converters.
Smashbro, the capture card probably isn’t working as you probably forgot to set the Capture card’s input type to 480p and the input method to component. It doesn’t automatically scale and the capture app generally has no jurisdiction over that.
Also, the Blackmagic Products do not support 240p if you ever want to capture N64 and older, although it could be added as people have forced it to work for a frame or two(although I expect it to never happen). You will need an external scaler for anything 240p. Luckily, there are some pretty decent lag free solutions on the market if you do want to capture anything that is 240p.
Salty. Well you can always have a component distrobution amplifier for your Wii, and have one dedicated line go into some sort of 480p to 525i converter? Seems overly complicated, but its either that or you buy a card that supports 480p.
EDIT: Found a forum post stating that it supports 480p now? Just some information to check out. If anyone can clarify this, please do so!
Oh my god! It’s this guy! Love your guide! What makes you say it never will? Isn’t there potential via firmware updates? I read that it does take 480p but only through HDMI which is making me thinking I can make my setup even more convoluted by changing the component BACK to HDMI at the very end. It would strip the HDCP off the PS3 by becoming component at some point and end in HDMI so I could use the Wii and PS2 in 480p.
Second question: Any new webcam recommendations? Your guide gives a few but a lot has come out since and I don’t have the cash to spend on a dedicated camcorder.
Third and fourth question: How’s my setup look? Which splitters/converters are good? I found some stuff on monoprice (I’m not moving any of this stuff so it’s not like I need to go all Monster or build a rack) but I don’t know how good the quality is and I don’t know if they’ll lag.
I’ve got some advice for you. Blackmagic Media Encoder is a pretty terrible piece of software, it’s a great card, but that program severely limits its usefulness. I do all my captures in Virtual Dub, you get more control, and if you PC is fast enough, you can even directly capture to MP4.
I would have sworn 480p component worked. Guess not. These devices are excellent for getting HDMI signal from a wii:
They don’t upscale or anything, but it can do 480p over HDMI and that should work just fine with the Intensity.
Thanks! My PC is PLENTY powerful. So I will try using that as soon as all the hooking in is solved.
Now if you take a look at my setup I also have a PS2 and those old systems through the scaler which are kind of a big question mark in terms of how they will work in if I just get that one piece. I was thinking, what if there were a component to HDMI thingy I could just switch up at the last minute?
I’m thinking since the BMIP takes 480p over HDMII could just convert the signal at the very end of my entire chain to HDMI again, thus allowing me to do it cheaper and simpler. I could tuck all the stuff away and just have one HDMI cable going tot he BMIP.
I’m just trying to find out if my crazy ass plan will work. If there’s a cheaper/better way. I’m so clearly new, I’ve just been trying to get advice before dropping the money.
Not to bump threads for the sake of bumping threads but I am way too scared to drop the money on anything until someone tells me my idea has a chance at panning out.
Like someone said, your best bet if youre going to stick with the BMI is to use a component distribution amplifier to get your signal to the TV and wherever else, and then buy a component to HDMI converter to hook up to the capture card to take advantage of the HDMI 480p feature.
Component splitter you can use is the CE Labs one. You can find that and a Component to HDMI converter box on ebay.
Any component splitter will have no issues. They just take the signal and split it a few ways. There is no encoding or anything going on like you may see with HDMI splitters.
