CELEBRATING THE 20th ANNIVERSARY OF SUPER TURBO AT EVO 2014: X-MANIA USA and TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Super Street Fighter II Turbo, we invite the worldwide FGC to take part in a celebration at EVO to honor the fighter that birthed a generation’s phenomenon. EVO will at long last partner with X-MANIA, one of the biggest names in Japanese and now international Street Fighter competition, for an unprecedented Super Turbo special event on the main EVO stage and stream!

Also, we’re excited announce TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II, due to the worldwide success and fan feedback from our main-stage EVO 2012 event, which was preceded by qualifier events all around the globe, made possible only by support from T.O.s and players like you.

RULES/SETTINGS:

TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II:

  • Will be run on Japanese H2H Cabinets (with USB support provided by Undamned’s converter board) and UD-CPS2 Supergun. Both will be compatible with most popular PS3/360 pads/joysticks.

  • Solo 1vs1 Tournament.

  • Double elimination.

  • Pools will be 2/3 games per match. Top 32 will be 3/5 games per match.

  • Japan Speed T3.

  • Loser may switch characters between games.

  • Akuma is banned.

  • Prior to EVO, there will be 16 qualifiers and 4 Japanese Grandmaster invites who will automatically advance to the top 32.

  • ToL II is open for everyone to enter to qualify. Players will be placed in one of eight pools that are tentatively scheduled. The winner from each pool will advance to the Top 32 Finals.

  • Entry Fee: $20 (online registration / $50 (onsite registration)

X-MANIA USA:

  • Will be run on Japanese H2H Cabinets (with USB support provided by Undamned’s converter board) and UD-CPS2 Supergun. Both will be compatible with most popular PS3/360 pads/joysticks.
  • Top 8 will be run on the main stage on UD-CPS2 Supergun. Cabs will not be available to use on stage but players will be provided custom replica Japanese cab joystick stands provided by Arkadeum. Players who do not wish to use the stands can use their PS3/360 controller of choice.
  • 3vs3 Team Tournament.
  • Single Elimination.
  • Speed Japan T3.
  • Capped at 32 teams.
  • Character Lock (Players will choose their character when registering).
    - No duplicate characters per team is allowed. Old and New versions of the same characters are permitted (exampe: N. Ryu and O. Ryu).
  • Pokemon Format (Team order may be switched against each team).
  • Blind select when determining which team members will start first.
  • Akuma is banned.
  • Teams have one minute to decide for the next team member to play.
  • X-MANIA USA is open for everyone to enter (no qualifiers).
  • We will pair up players without a team if they cannot find teammates.
  • Entry Fee: $10 per player (online registration) / $30 per player (onsite registration)

REGISTRATION:

  • Online Pre-Registration will close June 30th, 2014. You will then have to register on-site.
  • You can register on-site at EVO from 8AM-9AM on the day of the tournament however each tournament will have an additional on-site registration fees so we STRONGLY encourage everyone to pre-register online early.
  • Registering early online helps us to effectively generate the brackets. Top players are seeded properly and competitors are separated by region as best as possible.
  • If you did not have a team for X-MANIA USA when you registered but want to enter your team now, email kuroppi@strevival.com with your Team Name and Team Members. We need to have as many teams as formed early as possible for seeding purposes. If you wait to form your team at EVO, you may not get seeded properly.

TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II FINALS - EVOLUTION 2014 - Las Vegas, NV - July 11, 2014

ENTRY FEES FOR ToL II QUALIFIERS:

  • To help subsidize our costs for bringing the X-MANIA brand to EVO, as well as some costs associated with the Japanese Grandmasters who are being invited to EVO, we are asking for 20% of the ST entry fees from the qualifiers.

QUALIFYING FOR TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II:

  • A player will qualify for TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II by winning one of the sixteen qualifiers listed above and will be automatically entered into the top 32 FINALS at EVO 2014.
  • A player can qualify for TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II at EVO 2014 by entering TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS and finishing in the top three in one of the four pools.
  • If the winner of any of the Regional Qualifiers has already qualified for the TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II, the runner-up will be awarded the qualifier.
  • If the runner-up is unable to compete at EVO, or has already qualified for the TOURNAMENT OF LEGENDS II, the qualifying spot will be awarded at the discretion of the ST Revival tournament organizers.

Not sure if this is thread-worthy, but I feel Watson is still a very competent player, and he should do well if he picks O.Sagat instead of Ryu. His Rog seems strong, also, but of course not as disgusting as Afro’s, who seems to have mastered much of Rog’s OS bullshit. Damdai is extremely strong, but O.Sagat is even better than Rog against his characters, with the sole exception of Dhalsim. That money-match will be something I’ll want to see.

Hmm, maybe we should make a new thread for the Damdai v. Watson MM? Whatever, fuck it.

Even a rusty Watson is a very real threat, a mad Watson is even better. His O.Sagats still extremely strong, whereas he’s just solid with everyone else. His playstyle is very different from Afro. Watson’s much more footsies and reaction based, similar to how he was in CPS-1, whereas Afro is all about aggression and pressure.

I think a warmed-up Watson v. Damdai should be a very exciting match to watch.

I like Watson over Damdai. Watson is not at his peak and hardly plays the game anymore but he is still very dangerous a la when Jordan returned wearing the four five and dropped the double nickel on the Knicks. Damdai is obviously very strong but when things aren’t going his way, he tends to get flustered and that’s when the chinks in his armor become more apparent. I think Watson will do enough to get under his skin and get the victory.
