So this isnt exactly about fighting games but it is in reference to using a fightstick. I have a hori rap 4 ps3/4 fight stick that Im trying to use on windows 10. When I plug it in it registers as a hori rap4. Then I bring up cuphead on steam. At the initial “press any button” screen, I press a button on it and it acknowledges it. But once past that it doesnt register any inputs at all. Is this possibly just the game not being compatible? Its not like the computer is reading it as a misc. usb device, its reading it specifically as the rap4 fightstick. Also when I usb my ps4 controller it works fine. Any tips to get this thing working?
Sounds like Cuphead has Xinput for controls and no Dinput, this isn’t a Windows issue, its a issue with Cuphead
Hori PS3 sticks and older Hori PS4 sticks lack Xinput compatibility, newer Hori PS4 sticks have a dedicated PC mode where Xinput is turned on.
If your Hori stick supports it, turn on PC mode. If not you might want to look in one of sevral Xinput programs to make the controller work with the game
Steam has built in compatibility features in the menu now without going into big picture mode.
If your stick is d-input only, you can remap the buttons into thinking its an x-input device per game without using external programs.
I’m not sure if adds input latency though. We use it on the arcade machine in my office. Nobody is really ‘hardcore’ like me where they can tell the difference between 0 latency and 3 frames, but I’ve yet to detect an issue.
Just right click the game in steam, and hit the controls menu selection and make your adjustments there.
Steam’s own in-app button remapping supposed to work, but I ran issues with Sonic Mania and River City Ransom: Underground.
