This was an extremly great and informative podcast and I sure hope that it will continue.
If I had an international credit card I would donate for sure, so the guys that can donate, do it cause this shit deserves it, lets hope it carrys on even after SBO, and just a suggestion, Yun, pyro is like the only top tier player that plays Yun in the US, but, for characters that more people plays it would be interesting to have 2 or 3 guys at the same time, all talking about the same character and match ups, cause like pyro said, every person has problems with different match ups, and are more confidence with others, so lets say having Amir, and JWong at the same time (not sure about Amir now that pyro said he likes to hide stuff but oh well) so they both give there insights (sp?) about the char and different match ups.
Some good players Id love to hear from:
Ken:
5 Star
Valle
Makoto:
Sextaro
Arlieth
Dudley:
Vic
Ironfist
etc…
Anyway, great podcast, I really loved it
p.s. checking the first post again, it would be nice to have Ed and Yi together, since they both play Ken.
Thanks for the offer, that would be fantastic and would help out a lot! PM me with whatever I need to do. Thanks again!
Also, thank you to everyone else for the kind feedback and for the donations! Special thanks to Fatbear for his super generous donation! Glad you guys enjoyed it/found it helpful. :lovin: Please spread the word!
Listening to the podcast made me think about my experiences fighting against Makoto as well. Seems Pyrolee shares a similar passion for hating what she can do. In the podcast he would talk about how all it takes is one grab for her to 100 percent stun you and super but…most Makotos I’ve played against stick to SA1 against me. Mainly because the super when comboed into does like 60 percent damage on Ibuki already. The added versatility of being able to combo it off of her low short, LP hayate makes for much added versatitlity as well. Basically giving her a death touch once she has full meter and also keeps Ibuki modest when it comes to rushing down.
Thing is though…practicing against nothing but SA1 Makoto all the time makes me wonder how much trouble I would have against another strong Makoto player that would have the guts to use SA2 vs. me instead. I haven’t fought against SA2 Makoto in such a long time that I’m sure the matchup itself would just throw me off. There’s a lot of things even from near full screen that you have to worry about whiffing when she has meter. Like Pyrolee said…don’t matter how little life she has left…if you find yourself pushing her into the corner you’re best off leaving her alone. Just have the time clock work in your favor and have her come to you.
SA1 Makoto now just seems so played out to me. I understand to basically rush Mak down once I get an opening and keep doing so as long as I have momentum. Then when she has meter…calm the hell down and try to space her out so she’ll get antsy and maybe bust the super out of desperation instead of being able to find a situation to confirm it. Usually resulting in a missed super and free damage. Even though the super nearly kills Ibuki unless she got hit with it at the start of the round it’s still a typical “look for an opening then hit confirm” kinda super. SA2 in some ways is weirder to deal with because Makoto is actually advantageous in situations when in against any other character…you would have the advantage. It’s just the nature of the super I guess.
Majority of the time in the Yun vs. Makoto matchup I see Makoto players opting for SA1 because of the versatility for combos, Yun’s overall low health and how it can be used to punish Genei Jin since it has good invincibility. I would imagine SA2 would be strong against Yun as well but you generally just won’t get as many chances to utilize it since Yun moves rather quick and activating Genei Jin will have him dictacting the match just that much more often. Which then Makoto is forced to just run up his stun bar with hayate/EX hayate combos and hope he gets grabbed near the corner.
Yeah the super decision is a lot of time going to be SA1 against Yun and Ibuki, because of the damage they take, and how often they are in the air, so getting grabs in takes more work, since you can get SA1 off a variety of stuff it’s a lot easier to get it then it is SA2, in my opinion.
Never seen Eric Kim play? He’s been in the semi finals/finals of a lot of EC tourneys so I’m surprised you haven’t even seen him play. He used to go back and forth between SA1 and 2 back in the day but I think lately he’s been leaning more towards SA1. Unless you’re playing against a fat character like Hugo or Alex where they can get grabbed from anywhere and get 100 percent stunned. I know he tried to use SA2 a few times against Justin Wong’s Elena at FRX and I’m assuming it’s also because she has a wide hitbox that’s good for comboing into SA2. Problem was J Wong knew Elena beats the shit out of Makoto’s normal gameplan (grab a bitch) so Eric nearly got no chances to utilize SA2.
Actually now that you bring up Cajun…he was pretty much exclusively SA2 back like 2 years ago when the game was still pretty fresh tourney wise. Eric Kim himself actually convinced Cajun that SA1 was the better super to utilize in a lot of matchups. They have played in several tourneys together and both using Makoto helps them to relate things. Which definitely attributes to why they both use SA1 now. They’ll only use SA2 if the matchup clearly makes SA2 the better choice.
I’m sure it can be done. I think there’s only like 1 character in the game it can’t be done on (if even that). I always used to think it couldn’t be done on Oro because of how small he is but then I think Eric told me one day when I asked him that it could. It’s just really hard because of how small he is. I would assume it would be a similar case with Ibuki since she is also a small character and the way she falls makes it harder to do certain combos on her.
Actually now that I think about it…I think I lost my first Evo to a guy who caught me with a random SA2 and did double fukiage for the stun. At least I’m pretty sure that’s what he did cuz I’m not sure how he could have stunned me any other way. My stun bar wasn’t up that high.
i mentioned quotes, i mean, i play that fucker like twice a month
and yeah ive probably seen eric kim play but i forgot what super he used since no match hes played i can remember vividly plus ive been to what, 3 majors for 3s in my life.
Yeah I knew Ibuki was pretty small/narrow when she was falling which makes certain juggles harder on her. Elena falls weird also so I guess that makes SA2 not as easy on her.
its not Elena’s juggle hitbox thats hard its her short post s fp hitbox (juggle wise you can do the standard 100% ender or the Q version)
long story short she has a dead spot on mak’s half of the screen where you can’t combo into abare (short whiffs and fwd hits once and goes over her head)
