yeah Thor-Vergil is not that bad. Neither are Zero or C.Viper imo.
Hawk (probably 6-4 the worst one in theory), Deadpool, Wesker, Nemesis, Sentinel, Spencer and Wolverine are probably the hardest ones. Dante + Vajra is also a pain to fight against sometimes… oh and the dog
Average Nemesis players just wanna jump H all day but his command grabs and beast limbs are so annoyingly bad for Thor. His Dash Forward H and Crouch H beat grounded Strikes and Sparks are really fast and have good range on them. He has a way faster wave dash than Thor so he can keep constant pressure up close. Mighty Strikes wont work In the air you’ll get hit by Launcher Slam L or a command grabbed.
Sentinel & Nemesis has multiple armor moves that are faster that can chain into each other as well as command grabs I personally think Sentinel is a even match for Thor but I think Nemesis is tougher match to win. I think vs Joe and Skrull can get ugly too
Nemesis and Sentinel are good against Thor because their normal hitboxes are the fastest ones that reach longer; Nemesis j.M/j.fH and Sentinel j.M and hard drive can easily take down Thor from mighty strike at 3/4 screen distance, so Thor has to change his way to approach and prevent from those hitboxes in his movement, in other words his air options are more limited than in other matchups. Nemesis j.df H and Sentinel anti-projectile normals also make mighty spark L a risky option at 3/4 or 1/2 of screen distance. So Thor has to be very careful in those matchups; But just like Hawkeye and Deadpool, once Thor is in they have to eat a mixup or deal with Thor positive blockstrings into more pressure. Hard matchup is not necessarily bad matchup, but Thor has to move more carefully or he can die fast.
I think a match up guide should be put together. What works & what doesn’t work in a google doc or something we could have a reference guide during tournaments and keep adding to puttig some of this speculation to rest.
I feel he struggles to get things started against Hawkeye, Wolverine, Deadpool, Magneto, and Strange. He can fight Spencer but it’s tough, and Nemesis’s long limbs make it hard get fully charged strikes…so spacing is really important. I actually just played against a Nemesis in about 40 matches today and he can be scary. But an air reset to either Med/Heavy Mighty Hurricane beats any of Nemisis’s normals so it’s over once you hit him.
I agree with this, I beat K-Brad’s Trish and he couldn’t stay away from me for long. I think Any overlly mobile character with Jam Session or Vajra are annoying but not hard by any means.
So what does everyone think about the Viewtiful Joe match up? I personally think its bad and comes down to assists and what two characters are behind Thor if you’re playing him on point. Seems like most of you play or have a pocket Dorm so it’s not an issue for you to occupy that air space Joe players jump around. I play Thor Doom Ammy so 95% of the time I put Ammy against Joe players
Thor vs Joe is in Thor favor but you will need a beam assist to counter Joe beam assist + voomerang tactics. Spark M eat charged voomerangs so you need to counter that when you can (dont allow him to do charged voomerangs), specially if you play Thor with missiles. Spark L and Strikes make Joe approach and life really hard, specially grounded Strike M/H which counters Joe telegraphed superjump divekicks. Need to watchout for Six Cannon assist snipes (two bars and XF can potentially kill Dr Strange or Dr Doom at full screen distance) and dont press buttons while standing in front of Joe if you dont have DHC out that beat mach speed. cr.L > spark L > cr.L doesnt work, so better confirm with cr.L > cr.M. Joe has bad air resets so watchout for TACs if you are being hit and the second char is Dr Doom, Morrigan, Dr Strange, etc. ground command grabs are too risky with Joe, that dodge move is strong.
Serp I think your match up chart may need some tweaking because you have Joe and other recently mentioned characters in the middle or on the harder match up side of things. It’s conflicting
well the matchup chart i made is not for bad matchups but for hard matchups… hard is not necessarily bad but you got to be more careful or to play a safer game to beat them. If you dont know the basics of those matchups those characters blow up Thor hard with their braindead tactics. A chart with characters that beat Thor would be something like:
And of course my opinion on the matchups will be better as i level up my knowledge on every character. For example, i think Thor beats Chun-li and Shuma but honestly i dont know that much about those characters. The Wolvie matchup should be ranked as equal but thats assuming the player can react and block some of the Wolverine mixups, Thor is one of the few characters that can keep him in check at mid-screen distance
dead topic is dead; im currently working on the magneto matchup and i would like that we the Thor people make an extensive coverage of everything Thor vs Magneto related. What are Thor best options in every scenario while playing with Thor best partners (Strange, Doom, Dormammu, Amaterasu, Vergil, Dante, etc)
I have almost nothing to work on this matchup since there are no real Magnetos where i play >_> so USA people can help on this a lot
My training partner plays anchor Mags. When she goes into X Factor to avoid the incoming mixup, I play heavy defense. I jump back and triangle fly away to avoid jump in Magnetic blast frame traps. When I finally catch her trying to get in with a tri dash L or cr.L, I just block and immediately X Factor Mighty Punish. If it hits, I DHC Chaotic Flame and it’s over. If she jumps, I DHC Stalking Flare and once I outlast her X Factor, Dorm w/Spark can deal with Mags.
That’s probably not too helpful as I really just explained how to scrub Mags out (and my level of play is avg at best), but honestly I never have much success trying to fight him straight up, especially when he has Plasma Beam, Missiles, Lariat or drones backing him up. His L is much faster than ours and mashable so there’s little risk to throwing it out up close, especially since X Factor command grab shenanigans won’t work on an astute opponent as Mags can cancel into fly and force a DHC. However, if he gets too aggressive, I’ve had success throwing out a cr.M as (I’m sure you know) it AA’s decently and has massive hitstun, making it easy to confirm.
Against Mag/Doom, listen for the assist call, and when you hear it, spend a half-second watching Mags. If he stays on the ground, Disruptor is probably coming to cover Doom so do Mighty Punish, Chaotic Flame. If you see Mags jump, he’s probably gonna try to cover Doom w/ Magnetic blast. Also, if you read a raw Disruptor, s.j. air-dash down, j.S punishes from a pretty far distance.
