I getting myself back into the fighting game mix and purchased super street fighter 4 arcade but now i need a stick or pad, i have gamestop credit which would allow me to purchase a tekken x street fighter pad but i also see amazon have the wwe brawlsticks on sale for 34 bucks, which one would be he smarter investment.I have credit for the pad but i also don’t mind shelling out 34 bucks if it would last me until injustice comes out.
Unless you play better on pad and you already know that I’d say get the stick.
If your just getting back into fighting games take it slow and don’t spend a lot. Instead of picking a game and an arcade stick why not just get multiple games and see which one you like? Or one at a time.
Get a stick, fighting games have been designed around them for the better part of 20+ years so while there have been concessions made for the pad player, at their heart a game like SF4 is going to be best played on a proper fight stick.
There are always exceptions to the rule.
If a pad “feels right”, definitely play with a pad until you get to try out a stick a few times. I never felt content with a pad and took to a stick right away, but it certainly isn’t necessary. We’ve learned that pad players can hold their own in just about any game. In fact, some people prefer certain games with certain controllers. For example, I’m horrible at MK9, but when I do play, I use a MadCatz pad because I like how it feels. Most games, I use a stick, though.
If you insist upon getting a stick, the Brawlsticks are probably the best starter ones, but the parts are bad and you’ll probably want to switch them out once you get used to it. that’ll add on another $40-$50, IIRC.
Whatever is comfortable for you, use that. I grew up playing Marvel games on the arcade so Marvel games are the only types of games I can use a joystick for. All other games I would have to play with a PS2/PS3 pad and for emulators and games on the computer, I would use the keyboard. It’s just what I grew up with using and now I’m just most comfortable in doing so.
