Hey all, I just started this game along with 3rd strike and thought they were pretty damn cool for no air combo’s.
So this game is about countering, executing combos which give a good deal of damage, and knowing your opponent right?
So what are the “top tier” characters?
What ratio variations are best, say for example: 1-Yun/3-Ken
Whats the best groove?
What makes you usually win in a match?
I have been playing this, but not a lot. Pulling off combos shouldn’t be a problem for me, because i play mvc2 a lot and have been since it came out. I usually use the P-groove a lot, just for parrying. I havent watched much vids or anything, but can you parry a shinku hadoken?
Another groove i see, but not use, is the K groove. I see it in tourneys and they win with it sometimes. Besides that thing thats similar to parrying, you dont control your super, and you gain it by getting hit or that parrying thing.
My groove, and my favorite is the A groove. Just for the combos + super at the end.
The team i use is usually Yun-1 and Ken-3. I was wondering if this will get me anywhere. Oh yeah and I use A groove in serious games. Thanks a lot in advance.
"So this game is about countering, executing combos which give a good deal of damage, and knowing your opponent right?"
i would say this game is all about space control on the ground/land your super. comebacks without meter are uncommmon. knowing your opponent is part of the game, however, i dont see it as a big a part of this game as in say 3s.
"So what are the “top tier” characters?"
see the ongoing tier thread stickied at top.
"What ratio variations are best, say for example: 1-Yun/3-Ken"
the undisputed best way to ration your characters is the 1/1/2 format. depending on matchups and situatons, you may change where the r2 character is placed. but bottom line is that 99% of the time it is best to be playing 3 characters. from what i hear, runner up to the 1/1/2 format is just a solid r4 character.
"Whats the best groove?"
C and A are tossup for best. it’s probably A though. then a tossup between N and K. P, then lastly S.
"What makes you usually win in a match?"
landing your supers, controlling the ground, hitting your bread and butters. not necessarily in that order. mixups can help you win too. but i just dont see it as a big a part as space control. unless your name is buktooth.
"can you parry a shinku hadoken?"
yes
"The team i use is usually Yun-1 and Ken-3. I was wondering if this will get me anywhere."
it’d probably be much much better to stick to the 1/1/2 format.
edit:
but dont take my word as gospel or anything, i could be wrong with certain things.
Check those stickied threads, and READ BEFORE you post. Buk will probably close this thread because the questions you asked are easily awnsered in those stickied topics. I don’t wanna be mean, but seriously READ or use the search function, that’s what it’s there for.
in case you don’t find your answers, i’ll help you out lol. 1/1/2 format is the ONLY FORMAT!!! Don’t go using Ratio 4 or Ratio 3. Just trust me. NO RATIO 3 or 4. And uh…yun sucks in A groove haha. If you’re seriously dead set on using A, the best A groovers would be…Blanka, Sakura and Bison. There are others but those are the most common. But actually…you shouldn’t use A groove yet. A groove is probably one of the hardest grooves for a beginner to learn. First of all…Sakura’s “shoshosho” Custom Combo (CC) and Bison’s “paint the fence” CC are hard for beginners. It took me at least a week for each of them (varies with different ppl but w/e). Right now…I recommend using C groove because it stores your meter for you and you have roll. K groove is a top groove imo, right before A and C. I wouldn’t suggest playing K or P just yet…ESPECIALLY NOT P. P groove is toned down in CVS2 and I’ve only seen a few good P players (VDO comes to mind…). N is a bit hard for beginners too because you need to rush down with it or else you’ll get nowhere (check out N Iori, Chun, Akuma etc).
Lastly and most importantly…read JChen’s Systems and Comboes Guide! That thing is like gold for CVS2. Trust me…you’ll learn something new.
If he’s been playing SF for awhile there is no reason why he can’t start in A-groove or P-groove. MVC2 players catch on to CVS2 pretty quickly, from what I’ve seen… if his execution is decent, then CC’s should be nothing new, especially with Ken. Yun’s CC isn’t tough either. Yun does decent in A-groove. Just learn whatever characters you feel comfortable playing, MagnetoManiac. Best way to get better is to read the threads for information, watch some match vids to see how people play with your characters, and (most importantly) practice/play with other people.
If you’re planning on using A-Groove test the waters and don’t just pick Sakura Blanka Bison. There are a lot of other great characters in that groove. ken would be the best to start off with because of his easy CC that does good damage. Remember also that when you activate you’re invincible for X amount of frames. I don’t play A, so that’s all I got. N groove rules!
a very cheap substitue i might add, seeing as the A groove meter builds nowhere near as fast as his 3s genei jin meter, and once “activated”, is also less threathening mix up wise.
Don’t use A groove like Genei Jin…Yun is not as strong as he is in 3S. The damage scaling is way different. The whole point of A groove is to get in as much hits as you can. Yun doesn’t have any moves/normals like that. The best Yun CCs I’ve seen are 5000 points, which is weak compared to other stuff. If you try to use A groove like Genei Jin, it’s not going to work (well). If you don’t wanna use Sakura,Blanka or Bison, then there are others. Cammy and Geese comes to mind. But now that i think about it, i can’t really think of anymore.
CC’s are nowhere as dangerous as GJ combos though, but Yun is pretty good. After a knockdown he can corpse hop and roll canceling his command grab is pretty effective.
Play who you want, In any groove you want, just look at Buk or VDO amongst many other people who dont play top tier and they still win. This is because they know their stuff and practiced lots and know what they’re doing. JUst keep faith in your stuff and you’ll do good.
To Ragingstorm 101: You know Omar, he played Rock and Hibiki in K amd still wins, not exactly top tier characters now are they? High-mid sure, but not Top tier. Top tier doesnt = free win, its just a better chance for that character to win.
