For variety’s sake, be sure to have at least one 3D game in there… but DOA is a no-no. If I was you I would’ve picked GG, 3s and Tekken… that makes a pretty solid base.
MKA is a bottom tier game. Worse than 3S Sean, CvS2 King and KOF Seth combined.

if anyone has character matchup charts (how often X wins against A, B, C) that’d probably add good value to the discussion. with those you could put numbers to the tiers and level of balance in the game, instead of grouping into arbitrary “good/medium/bad”.
No one has ready access to a copy and no-one seemed too pushed on the franchise as a whole to be honest.

I was aware of the game just not the acronym. As for your game suggestions it looks like it will be more or less Tekken,GG & 3S with MBAC and HnK in the wings. No-one seemed overly interested in any of the KoF games. A3 and ST arent on the list because as far as Im aware I (nor anyone I know) has a copy. If I was going to pick them up I assume the Alpha Anthology and CCC 2 for the PS2 would be the way to go?

From what I understand of the Pal version that doesnt seem right… can I get a source? I would of imagined Yoshi getting higher in Pal (since he was buffed for it) and Link getting lower (since he was nerfed for it).
What’s the point of tier lists? I think that the “dominant” “difficult” and “balanced” options were good enough for me. Most of the people responding to this thread are trying to correct tiers and it’s mostly tier talk. I thought the more important question was whether or not a game is “tournament worthy” as suggested. Also, the geographical location adds to the mix in that if there are certain games more popular in your area, then more people will play regardless and then tiers won’t mean shit (…or if they do, then an explanation would come in handy). However, figuring out whether a game is “popular” or “tournament worthy” are two different questions.
I still think matchups are a better measuring tool than tiers, but tiers are generally good for people starting out in a game…
But here’s the updated tier list for VF5, at least down the grapevine at virtuafighter.com and supposedly in the new Tougeki tier list:

As for banned characters… if we assume it’s a console version, Dural is banned.
