BaH! Im all talk man…im no good…Im always down to waste my money though on some good ol’ money matches though! But anyway…i agree…Splinter Cell 2 is too good…
Stargate is one of the best arcades in Texas, if not the best, so I’ll be sad to see it go away from that last true arcade, but I completely understand the want to stay in business without alienating the clientele.
My only wonder is how “taking turns” is gonna be handled. Quarter lines have always served that purpose, and as someone mentioned before, that can still be confusing. I’m sure you guys will come up with something though.
It’s too bad Stargate is so small, even in the new place it’s small, unless you guys moved again to an even bigger place. I say this because it’d be cool to open up a LAN cafe as well. Just a thought.
Good luck Chris!

I will own all in splinter cell
Man… this switch would be real disadvantage for some scrubs (ex: me) especially since I like to just watch a lot of times. Anyways, since there is prolly gonna have to be someone to regulate the entrance anyways, how about implementing an hourly fee like LANs (like $3 an hour) that would benefit casual scrubs.
The change does provide advantages to “scrubs” Instead of playing a few games and just watching because you only have limited funds or don’t wanna feel like you’re wasting your money, now you save up for a daily pass when you know alot of comp is gonna be there, and play all day. It gives “scrubs” the chance to play as long as they want and practice against better players and such.
i didn’t mean turn ALL of them of course Madden and other pad games would have tv setup or w/e i was speaking specifically of fighting games. i dont think this would be an impossible undertaking. i dont know much about cabinets and crap but i figure you can gut the cabinet, put in a shelf, convert the controls to fit into ps2/gc/xbox ports and voila…your own personal rotating fighting game cabinet.
I also think some better advertising would do you a LOT of good. Dont just bring in hardcore gamers, bring in the little kids in teh community and crap too.
Let me introduce you to a team by the name of Manchester United. Try them then come back to me
I like this membership idea. I used to blow 20 bucks a nights when i used to go on fridays and now i can just pay 10 and play all i want. SWEET. I see myself returning. Could you answer the who plays next question posted earlier. With quarters we knew who was next but without them how will we know.
I think we can still use the quarter system. You just put your quarter up, but instead of using it when it your turn you can put it back in your pocket.
With the non-spending “quarter system” one can make cool quarter sized token with your name on it and/or a fancy design to represent your turn.
Man, we never know who’s turn it is with the quarter system anyways. Especially when it’s busy, we just forget who’s up and go whenever we can get away with it…
yes yes I’ll finally be able to compete at an arcade.
Also I was wondering what time do tournies usually start/end on tuesdays b/c I’ve been looking to come to one for a while now.
I’m looking forward to the switch, but now I need a car to come more often.
On tues, the tourny usually starts at around 7:30pm, so if you go, try being there alittle earlier to you have time to sign up or warm up or whatever, latez
I agree with Stiggz’s post
the thing is if hes going to make a change then make it a change for the better! obviously most people feel that its a forgone conclusion that the arcade scene will die out eventually, so this would be a logical first step to keep things humming along.
only real problem i have with things is that cris needs a draw. something that people would come out for thats different than what they get at home. why go play for 10 a day on the same sticks that you play with at home at a different location on someone elses electric bill. why should we, when we already have gatherings at peoples houses when we do have time to for free. no doubt i think the the proposed plan has its early flaws, but they are some things that need to be ironed out. like many have said, what about the casual person that stops by? only for at max, an hour becaue his gf doesnt want to hang around doing nothing while you go and play games with your friends which is great to do every once in a while because work and school has you tied down and you need a to get out and chill wit yo homies, but no she doesnt understand does she, nah cuz its always about me me me! i mean you give and you give and what you get …
anyways :), theres need to be an offer of something that you cant get at home. with the arcades, it was the machines. you just dont have those at home, and it serves as more of a unified medium on which to play other than someones homade stick or godforbid an ageshitz … people didnt mind paying too much because it was the way to do things and it was nationally recognized. now with console. it changes things all the way. i think chris should enlist someone to made a set of up sit down sticks for the rooms maybe 10 or so, that are sav-like in form. that way the non stick goers have something to fight with. and everyone can agree on a medium. and if designed correctly can avoid mishaps and resets and pauses. and we can get on with our lives. and not waste time making long posts. j/k
and we can give stiggs a reprieve frolm long posts, cuz he has better things to do, er screw ;)
An idea
I know there is going to be an occasion when in a tournament like mvc2, a guy who is good in the arcade is going to want to play another guy who is good in console. So, A good solution is for people to donate some money so Stargate coold buy an xarcade cabinet for 1000. With that, they can play mvc2 on the playstation and the guy can play the game like if was the real arcade joystick and the other guy with the ps2 control.
X-arcade cabinet
Another good thing about the x-arcade cabinet is that it has a lifetime guarantee. If i was the owner of stargate i’ll just replace all cabinets with this one. So if a scrub wants to play with the joystick and another with a control, well they can.
An idea
But wouldn’t it be better and cheaper way to switch to console all the way then? If somebody wants to play on a stick, they can use their own (mas)sticks and if another person prefers the pad, they can just use their pad. Same thing, but cheaper imo.
does anybody know whats gonna happen to the cabinets that are in stargate now??? is chirs gonna sell em or what???
simon
I’m pretty sure Chris would like to sell at least some cabinets to help make room and to get some funds for the change. If you know anyone that wants to buy a cabinet, give him a holler.
