Starcraft II!

Man this game is HARD on brutal.

Okay, so I downloaded the digital copy and I have the installer, is the key built into the installer? I wasn’t mailed a key and I didn’t see the key on any of the pages I went through. I just want to make sure I didn’t screw anything up.

There is no key, so long as your battle.net account has the game associated with it you are good to go. Since you bought the digital version I’m assuming you had to be logged in to buy it, and its on your account. Check at battle.net.

Keys only exist for box versions so that you can redeem the code and associate it with your battle.net account in the first place. Digital version eliminates that need

As for the campaign, normal feels too easy… and hard feels really challenging. I barely survived the first mission on hard, I dont want to even try on brutal

What are the credits used for?

Sorry if the question sounded stupid. I checked my accoutn on B.Net and WoL is on their and registered. Thanks so much.

Naw its not stupid at all, this is the first time blizzard has done anything like this, so a lot of people are confused as to how it works. Personally I think its cool to not have a CD Key tied to the installation at all.

Credits are used for Unit Upgrades and Mercenary Units once you’re a few missions into the campaign. You can buy permanent tech upgrades (like combat shield on marines, and concussive shells on Mauraders) or spend them on mercenary units (i.e. 4 “elite” marine squad) that you can spawn in missions. Zerg/Protoss research are used for unit/building upgrades. For instance, with the first zerg level of research, you can buff your bunkers with one of two choices: Turrets on your Bunkers or +150 health on your bunkers. You only get one choice and it sticks with you the whole campaign. The next level of research has more choices to make.

What I find really cool is the way the units are in the game and you build your army: start with only marines, next missions adds medics, mission after that brings in firebats, then every mission you take gives you new unit types that are available for the rest of the game. Cool to see units not available in multiplayer (medics and firebats!) used in the story, and also cool to see how they talk about the interconnectivity of the units (i.e. Mauraders are just modified firebats). Getting close up views on the mdoels is sweet too.

I didn’t even realize medics are not usable in the mutliplayer game. That stinks.

Well in multiplayer you use medivacs… but I think I’d still take the ol’ stim pack marine with medics… medivacs in the air can be a pain sometimes…

In multiplayer, they have the Medivacs, which are a combination of Drop Ships and Medics in one. Its way more awesome, but higher up in the tech tree of course which helps the game balance.

Stupid double Post

Beat the campaign last night. Great game. I was getting this 50/50 for single player / multiplayer and I can say I would buy this for $60 just for the single player alone. Can’t wait until the expansion to keep the story going. Now to finally get into multiplayer and try for some of the harder achievements on hard mode.

Probably won’t be playing it till Friday.

It’s been so long since I’ve played a pc game that made me drop my jaw at the visuals. I have a pretty beefy video card and only really play on consoles, so seeing this game was like a breath of fresh air.

brutal is too unbalanced. I say hard is an enjoyable challenge. Anyone having trouble doing the challenges? I just finished psionic assault. Shit was hard until I figured out the pattern.

Playing SC campaign to hold your own online would be like playing against CPUs in Arcade mode to get better at street fighter. It won’t happen. Two differernt games. You’re better of just playing SC2 multiplayer and taking it like a man than playing the campaign to do it.

The campaign is seriously godlike though. Fun as shit experience, and a story that’s not unique but well-written and enjoyable.

Does anyone know if you click New Campaign if you have you basically redo some of the achievements? I can’t get credit for a mission so I want to go back so it doesnt say I am missing one mission.

no. single player in rts encourages bad habits. typically you are holed up against superior forces so you tend to turtle and build up static defenses. plus computers aren’t very smart. you can use single player vs CPUs to practice tactics and build orders. its like training mode in street fighter.
