Starcraft II!

Yeah, Blizz mentioned in recent interviews that the beta would go on for at least another Month, though whether or not that includes the preorder beta codes I dunno, I think their initial target was may 17th, but that’s been pushed back now

man the ranking system is so bugged. I was 80 plat, played nothing but noobish peeps, then I either played 2 very good players or I was just tired. Lost 2 games, now i’m 80 gold? wth. makes me not wanna bother with ladder anymore.

My name is Irennicus.brendor

I heard a patch is coming out soon where they’re going to nerf Koreans.

Edit: I’m sucking it up right now. I do well in Copper leagues but I get matched against people in Gold all the time and generally lose those matches. If I uploaded a replay or two would one of you guys watch it and give me tips?

So you can beat people not in platinum, but when you play other platinum players, you lose… and then you got bumped out of platinum? Sounds like the system is working to me, though its really hard to know just what skill level your opponents are at. Getting paired with other leagues when you’re playing seems more like a symptom of beta (I always see “Expanding Search” which I assume means looking in other leagues)

Been playing for a month now so I consider myself still a “newb” but I’m ranked 12 in a plat division. I’ll be glad to watch your replay and help out any way I can.

I wish I played SC1 years before the beta started, I’d probably be competing in tournaments right now… =[

I think the ladder and accounts are going to be reset on the 17th.

I’m still stuck in silver even though I think I’m a solid gold league player. Platinum may be a stretch for me because I know I am too slow to keep up with them.

I mean the people that I beat I didn’t think they were top plat level so I thought either I should be placed higher (doubt it) or the matching system is just bugged. Or they got to plat by getting lucky a few times. In fact I’m sure they were my level because I didn’t get a “slightly favor” or anything.

If you win all 5 placement matches, you seem to go to plat
4, gold
3, silver
1-2- Copper
0- Bronze

at least from my experience

A lot of people that are… good… chose to do the 5 games as novice for some reason. I keep hearing people talk about build order etc. Are there sites with specific orders people follow?

teamliquid.net is the place for anything Starcraft related.

sounds about right. I hope after the ladder reset the ranking will be more accurate. Right now most of my friends either play super noobs or super pros so the games are always lopsided one way or the other.

the more matches you have under your belt the better the matchmaking gets, its not gonna be able to get a clear assessment of your skill after just a few games

I havent played as much 1v1 since last reset, but pre reset when I was playing a lot more my matches were consistently really good

yeah so some guy kept pm spamming me while I play so I typed /dnd. DOES NOTHING! I had to add him to my friend’s list and right click his name to block communication. I really hope they add /dnd and chatrooms in the final version. Imagine if you’re in a tourney and a few of your friends are trying to talk to you…

This is true. Almost every person I play is solid now. When I first started, there were a lot of scrubs, even in platinum.

So besides scouting all the time I came up with new tactics that may help you against the competition.

Platinum League.

Basically it’s all about counters, before you even see them happen. As I mentioned before I play as Protoss. I was playing a game vs Terran. I didn’t even scout, and I rushed to Cybernetics Core. No Zealots. As soon as the first Sentry was created I sent it in my mineral line, not even 2 seconds later a Reaper showed up trying to harass my economy. The Sentry killed him before he could do any damage. I immediatly built my Robotoics Facility and a Stargate. I made 2 Phoenixes’ and 1 Observer while always massing Stalkers. Not even 20 seconds after my second Phoenix came out my base was getting attacked by Banshees. The Phoenixes immediatly went to work. The Banshees cloaked. The Observer came out. The Phoenixes destroyed the Banshees, and my Stalkers were on their way to my opponent’s base which only had a couple of marines and Marauders. GG. I covered all my defenses and gave my opponent no chances to cripple my game.

What I’m saying is that you gotta get ready for the obvious harass and cheese while building your main “ball”. Always be aware of the cheap tactics the opponent might employ. After that it’s all about micro, macro and skill, heh.

…and scouting. orz

Is it me or are Zerg very underpowered? All my shit seems to melt against the late game stuff that Toss and Terrans have.

I thought Zerg were strong early and weaker in late game, whereas Terran are the opposite. Oh well, I don’t know jack. Can’t wait for UMS

Yup Yup.
