I’d be more than willing to play, just not sure if I could provide a challenge for you, haha.
dang fish… I thought you were already in diamond with your PvZ knowledge. :sad:
I’m up for some games, but the problem is that whatever time I get for the game (or any game lately) is inconsistent. On another note, I’m still upset over the upcoming Toss nerfs.
I finally got promoted to Silver after losing 3 matches to Gold players and winning against a Silver. I got 2 Gate Chrono Zealot by both of the Gold P’s. As a Z, what’s the best way of dealing with this? Spine Crawler it or put down a Roach Warren and try to pump out some roaches really fast?
1 Base Mutalisk
10/10 Overlord
14/18 Extractor
13/18 Spawning Pool
12/18 Overlord
12/26 Zergling (3)
15/26 Queen
17/26 Metabolic Boost
@100% Queen, Lair
@100% Queen, Extractor
26/26 Overlord
@100% Lair, Spire
34/34 Overlord (2)
@100% Spire, Mutalisk (5)
*Drone production stops at 12/18 Overlord then resumes at 17/26 Metabolic Boost.
*Take your initial Zerglings to go scout by taking control of Xel Naga towers and camping outside your opponent’s natural. Along with spreading your overlords around to all the expansions and edges of the screen you’ll have near full vision of the entire map. Use this vision to check for when/where they expand and when they push out for an attack. It’s also a good idea to simply run a Zergling up the opponents ramp to see what units they defend with.
*I have this build timed to have just enough gas to research Metabolic Boost when the Spawning Pool is done, and to morph a Lair when the Queen is done.
*If your opponent attempts some early pressure you can usually defend with your initial Zerglings (with Metabolic Boost researched) and your Queen. If you need some help just make another round of Zerglings and lay down some spine crawlers, this will delay your build though.
*When your Spire is done you’ll have a little over 400/400 resources to pump out 4 Mutalisk, and should soon have an extra 100/100 for the 5th Mutalisk. You should have them out around 7:30-7:40 into the game considering that you did the build right and didn’t get delayed by pressure for too long. Take these initial 5 Mutalisk to start harassing your opponent. Aim for easy kills like workers, exposed buildings, stray units, etc. This will put them in a defensive mind set and over invest into anti air. Use this time to expand by getting a Hatchery up at your natural and a 2nd Queen (If you continued to pump drones while harassing like you should, you should be over saturated at your main and can be profiting from an expansion quickly). If your opponent attempts a counter push just lay some spine crawlers down at your natural and cut drone production to get more Zerglings and Mutalisk. It would even be good to bring the Queen from your main down to your natural and use both of them to not only attack but use transfusions on your Mutalisk and Spine Crawlers.
Comments?
nah i have a little bit of knowledge but am horrible with execution. luckily, seems like most of the low level diamonds are the exact same way. some are even worse they got there with 1 dimensional play by just doing the same old 3 rax build or 4 warp push (they are 1 dimensional because they don’t know what to do if their push fails and typically rage quit shortly after). diamond zergs are legit they’re the hardest race to play imo.
what a lot of ppl do vs me when i 2gate is they hold off with queen + zergling, then typically get their roaches out just in time (not sure what the build is, but its out there somewhere on the internets), and the roaches can just kite the zealots and laugh in their face, then you push out with roaches and if they haven’t gotten a stalker or cannon up in time you can even humiliate them and win the game right there. so these days i just run once i see their roaches come up lol.
also dont worry too much about it, zealots are getting nerfed in patch, so 2 gate is probably not a viable opening anymore.
It seems I was a little slow because I was going for a 14 gas 14 pool fast teching to Mutas and had to stop and get roaches… zealots already tearing shit up and got a surround on my roaches.

Interesting to note that even though Zerg is almost non-existent among the top 1V1 players, they seem to doing quite well in the 2v2 team circuit.
16 zergs, 15 terrans, 7 toss, 2 randoms in the top 20.

I don’t really play Zerg but does anyone have any theories as to why they seem to have a bigger presence in 2v2s? Is there something they provide to the team chemistry with other races that really boosts their worth?
double 6 pools
^ LOL
yeah i think the consensus is that 2v2 is cheese city. supposedly proxy reaper and zergling rush is gdlk as well, esp against a double protoss team
Team games revolve around a lot of rushing, and obviously 6 pools come out before anything else. Also a Zerg going muta/ling can establish map control, harass, and deny expansions while the team mate can make a giant ball of death to put the nail in the coffin.
On a different note I played a TvZ today that just frustrated me. I got hellion rushed but was able to defend with some speedlings, a queen, and a spine crawler, but this significantly delayed my build since I had to pull drones away multiple times. In retrospect I could have just made more lings and didn’t need the spine crawler, I just over reacted. After I got my mutas out he was already on two bases with mt’s in the mineral line and a army of marine/thor, so I couldn’t do any harass at all. I was forced to tech up to have and just go mass ling and I was able to defend until I got ultras. At this point though we were both on 3 bases and I couldn’t attack him because he was turtling hard and was really well defended. I caught his army in the open when he tried to push out but I got completely obliterated even with a maxed out ultra/ling army. Now he had map control and I couldn’t safely expand and was slowly getting mind out. I attempted to tech switch over to bl’s but he scouted it and went bc’s to shut me down, afterwards I had to say gg.
I have to admit that TvZ is quite a bit imba.
Pro teams in Broodwar always consisted of a Protoss and Zerg, or Terran and Zerg. Need muta ling to control the map.
If you see a terran building an early factory in ZvT, you absolutely MUST make at least 1 sunken, preferably 2. You cannot rely only on speedlings against a terran with good control, or helions will eat you up.
Also, lings are pretty much worthless late game against terran unless you are trying to trap an army. Ultraling is also a terrible combo, as the lings can block the ultras from attacking, and you don’t dish out any of the ultra splash damage. Turn as many lings to banelings as you can late game, and use the rest of the lings to scout the map.
I’ll try to enter the sc2gg tourney again tonight. Hopefully I’ll win if I end up on the stream again. :sad:
Huh? A lot of top Z players go ultra/ling late game in ZvT like Idra, Slush, Sheth, etc. Also unless the T went pure bio (which they shouldn’t be doing against Z) then blings are useless. I have no idea what you’re talking about tbh.
Also I’ve discovered that Z has no cost effective unit against a BC. I takes 7 mutas (700/700/14), or 6 hydras (600/300/12) or 3 corruptors (450/300/6) to take out a single BC (400/300/6). And if they have SCV’s repairing it makes it even more difficult. I understand why BC’s are getting nerfed in patch 1.1.
The SC2GG Weekly Tournament, North American server, is going on now! Just a casual tournament with a mix of new and old casual players, including a few from shoryuken.com. Wow lost my first match this time… embarrassing.
I’m gonna stream first person on the ladder for a little while if anyone wants to watch.
You guys know about the C Starleague? I just found out OSU has a team so I might try to join. I searched for my bnet handle to find my bnet record and this came up lol
ktfHag PvT - StarCraft 2 Replays - GameReplays.org
So I was thinking early today, would anyone be down for having Starcraft 2 “ranbats” that last a month or two? Have certain days set up for people to play the games and keep the rankings here on the first post. Prize would just be bragging rights and I think a lot of people would enjoy this. After each ranbat we can host the replays and post them in a package, have that on the front page and possibly have someone like Pimp Willy commentate on them and post it on youtube.
Thoughts?
i am down
Yeah ranbats sound good. I’m getting situated with school work so I can set time aside if I know ahead. It’d be really nice if there is some universal league and we can have an SRK league. Any of you guys wanna play Friday night? That’s my official off night. Natureboy? I remember you had a good zerg in BW.
