StarCraft II Matchmaking Thread

Thanks for teaching me how much I suck vs 4 gate catchafire : )

lol, u don’t play much n e more  (no one does)

Anyone here play LoL or HoN? I’m thinking of playing either one and wouldn’t mind someone showing me the basics.

I play LoL you can see that from our League of Legends thread. None of my friends play HoN :frowning: . I used to play in Dota tournaments but to answer if I will show you the ropes and that is no I don’t have the time a lot to learn in those games. I would suggest just picking it up playing the tutorial once then dive in and figure it out takes some time.

Yeah, i am trying HoN right now and it is def. NOT noob friendly… It just sucks being the noob when other people kinda depend on you…

Since those games are so noob unfriendly, I’m just waiting for Blizzard DOTA or DOTA 2 before I start learning how to play them

I’m also hoping that DOTA2 will be more accessible to new players. A released strategy guide would also help. In many ways, HoN/LoL are competitive in a similar vein to SC but it’s harder to visualize.

building a nexus provides supply to your army?

Nexus/Command Centers both gives supply, thats why you can build up to 10(11 as terran) supply at the start of the game. Hatcheries give 2 supply or something so zerg starts with 10 supply as well

puma situation is the same thing that happened with justin wong except TSL wasn’t as bad as triforce

Yeah, EG snipes good players allll the time. I kinda dislike EG

EG made a great play. I don’t fault them at all for what happened TSL did not put Puma on contract its their own damn fault. This is business and nice only takes you so far. You think that many people would come back to this if Puma wins MLG or something else big with the EG tag hell no. They may lose a couple people but gain thousands. Also with as many Idra fans as there are I doubt this will deter many of the EG faithful.

I think it’s getting a lot of undeserved hate too. SC2 is smaller in Korea than the Foreign scene right now because most of the big ESports backers are still doing SC1. SC2 will grow big in a year or two, and continue to skyrockets, but the growth is being seen bigger overseas. More tournaments, more travel and a lower skill level. Korea is using the fact that SC2 is smaller to basically force these players into Indentured Servitude. Should Puma be grateful that he brings in a ton of money that goes to Clide and Fruitdealer and Tricktser Salaries while he lives with 5 dudes in bunkbeds? Sure he should be grateful that the practice environment led him to get stronger, but he gave those players 10 months of practice. He was even dubbed the most sought out practice partner. To think he gave nothing back to the team is plain silly.

At some point these players have to break out and make money during the small window when being a pro-gamer is sustainable. Should he wait 3 years to get a decent salary then be too old to keep up with the next generation of players? Hell no.

This will light a fire under the Koreans asses. If they want to keep players they will give them a decent contract. There is now competition from outside of Korea and they need to start paying attention to it. Last week was a huge wakeup call for them; between Puma leaving TSL for a foreigner team, to Huk anchoring OGS to victor and QXC all killing IM, they do need to start paying more attention to whats going on. 1 Giant league that is so top heavy that only a handful of people per month can make a livable wage is not going to sustain that many gamers. More leagues need to form, more sponsors brought into the mix and the players need to feel more than just a sense of honor in their pocket

Yeah, the current business practice seems a little too unstable and financially stupid. So many top players are being denied money by competing in the super difficult GSL. As a business investor, it would make sense to split the korean teams up so that they can compete in more foreign tournaments. So an IM team can have a presence in Korea and in other markets. This translates to more money and recognition In a way, when Idra left Korea, I thought it was one of the smartest things he did. Sometimes I feel that players like Jinro should do the same.

How much money did Puma make for winning the NASL btw?

It was like 35-40k or so

Also Puma officially signed to EG now, good luck Puma!

Does he get to keep all the money? And shame for TSL for not putting him under contract. If anything, he benefited for not having to worry about contracts. Hope they don’t screw over like the did Marn though… (not sure with that whole story, so can’t really talk)

Yeah I think the Korean way is that players keep 100% of their winnings, though some will donate a percent back to their teammates and most all definitely treat the entire team to a nice dinner

Somewhat long quote.

Spoiler

Is there any evidence or source that would lead you to say that SC2 will continue to skyrocket in South Korea? I’m not trying to say you’re wrong, just genuinely interested because I’ve read that SC2 isn’t doing so hot in Korea. Can’t say much about the TSL/Puma/EG drama since I chose to ignore it but saying players are forced into being indentured servants is hyperbolic.

i don’t have any evidence to cite, but i agree that SC2 will continue to grow in SK in the next couple of years.
My reasoning being that as the expansions come, the game will be seen as more “complete,” and the local scene there isn’t going to want to ignore the foreigners catching up forever. As well as the basics of computer hardware, where average people’s machines there should eventually start catching up with the game’s requirements, which shouldn’t go up a great deal via expansions, unless Blizzard is intending a giant engine overhaul.

I don’t see how it goes down with 2 new expansions coming out and more players from brood war eventually making the switch. The only way i see it going down is if Blizzard makes some huge balance type blunder and I don’t really see that happening.
