I really think they need to hire some pro gamers to balance this game. I’ve been playing since patch 9 of beta and I’d say that of all the patches they’ve made I’ve only seen a couple I thought were fitting. Off the top of my head I can only think of roach speed increasing to 2, supply depot before rax, and reapers getting nerfed that really fit. They consistently nerfed and fucked with units that were never over powered in the first place (infestors, bcs, broods) and when they did address the correct issue, they never addressed it in a meaningful manner.
Most of the issues that were obviously questionable never even saw the light of day. Never once did they really seem to grasp how powerful MULE is. They never wanted to consider how far someone might ACTUALLY be able to take the force field ability, or whether the only thing holding Zerg together was the ‘inject larva’ button.
I’m not implying that they absolutely needed to fuck around with those abilities, but even in Beta when it was their job to make a bunch of test patches they never once considered to look at the game with a toned down MULE or with a slightly less amazing force field. They never once thought to possibly nerf inject.
I’m not saying these things needed to happen for the final version. But they could’ve learned a lot of things about their game by shaking up the atmosphere a bit more. If a toned down inject rate made Zerg not viable, that should speak for how much of a ‘lynch pin’ game mechanic they’ve created. If toss got stomped EVERY time without force field, what does that say about toss? If Terran had a half-powered MULE, could they still win lots and lots of games?
These things didn’t really happen though. They fucked with Warcraft 3 abilities on the infestor, changed up which unit uses the contaminate ability, they made the forge take a few seconds longer to build… They made tiny changes that were never surrounding issues that dominated the game anyways. I say get some pro gamers in there who know exactly how the races mesh together and see what they can come up with.
i agree with most if not all of those points, but i also don’t think blizzard will make any big overhaul type changes to macro mechanics until it’s expansion time. That’s always been their pattern in the past and i don’t see why it would change this time.
The reason the balance changes are fine-tuning tweaks and not major overhauls is because they design the game the way they want it to play first, and then make slight adjustments to change balance while keeping the overall gameplay the same. Beta was only a few months long with a patch every week or two, thats not really a suitable environment for testing wild random changes
I tried that with T after taking a month off. It felt so… rough. Like I dont know how to do a decent build order and keep my macro up, I always end up with like 4k in the bank hah
Went back to P and felt silky smooth. Just sad that they’re still contemplating nerfing templars when everyone and their mother, P included, is sick of Colossus based play
how are ur win percentages after picking up a new race? for me, it’s horrible. but, i don’t care. i’m gonna hope that MK9 isn’t broken w/ characters doing 50%+ combos EASILY…
MK9 will be broken and have only a few god tier characters most likely lol. No inside info but come on its MK. I will love it though because it is what it is and it does it well. My toss is alright atm I haven’t had enough time to iron anything out to many tests for me these next few weeks. 4 gate is popular with me lol. If i go 3 gate expo or robo i do float quite a bit of minerals not used to the different style of play with no larva injects.
I will say this though I am glad I can make a mistake and still have a chance to win the game unlike with zerg and I can actually finish someone after I win a big battle.
i feel as though a lot of people has stopped playing the game. the casual/interested folks, and what’s left now are the more serious players. as a result, when i play a custom game, a lot of people will drop seeing that I am a lowly gold player. in most cases, they are diamond or master league… and rape me.
Yeah, I expect that will happen until the expansion comes out. Probably your best bet is to use the custom chat channels to find people to play with, that way they won’t drop. Still sucks. Not sure why Masters players would slum it up in the custom channels unless they’re trying new strategies, in which case your opponents skill level is less of a problem
Man, MC vs July tonight is going to be so fucking good, I predict MC will take it 4-1, but I’d love nothing more than to be wrong and see July pull an upset
One thing that I’m starting to hate about this game is PvP. I switched from Zerg to try something new, and now I play Toss. I’m a below avg. Toss to be honest, but when it comes to the PvP matchup… -.- ?!? It only boils down to who can 4-Gate better. Is this suppose to be fun?!?
Teamliquid has this new post highlighting system that highlights posters who actually know what they’re talking about. KCDC has posted some good advice about stopping 4 gate before. At the lower levels, something as simple as attacking with your first zealot will at the very least confuse or slow down your opponent, completely ruining their timing. Someone else also posted up a rock paper scissor chart of PVP and which build beats what, so study that too. But yes… 4 gate is gay. lulz.
