Yeah, but then you get to see pretty awesome play like Idra on that map, who creep/spinecrawler/hydra pushed his way to the other persons base and then rolls them. A cool strategy like that is unique to that map, or at least that close position situation
Also, pretty important bug for people to know about:
Yeah, those Jinro vs. OGSMC matches were pretty intense. I can’t remember seeing any TvP matches in recent memory that were that incredibly intense. Mostly because OGSMC is such a beast. Pretty much every time the guy attacks, it looks like the game is going to end right there, because his attacks seem so damn frightening/effective.
the pheonix buff is proving to be a good one. i am not sure how it is affecting zerg, so can someone chime in that is more experienced? i feel as if it forces z players to put up more spores and to use a unit (hydras) that could use a buff or two itself, and i lol at comparing hydra speed to pheonix speed.
its funny whenever I watch gsl and artosis/tasteless try there hardest to encourage foreigners to come to s.korea and watch the tournaments live. seriously? you want me to drop what i am doing (school, work, family), to check out a month+ long tournament? um, no thank you.
Phoenixes were already my favorite P unit, now that they come out faster its a slight buff. You can get 4 out early to harass queens/workers, pick off units at watch towers, makes T keep all their marines clumped instead of spread out. But you still gotta remember that a Stargate is a pretty big investment, taking P away from Robo (Detection) and Twilight Council (Buffed Gateway units). So it’s a pretty big sacrifice. I think the lower build time really helps us hit certain timings, like before Z has lair or before T has an engineering bay, which can buy you time to expand/get ahead while making the other play sit in their base.
Sadly, 1 static defense shuts down the entire fleet, so you have to find a useful role for them besides picking off workers eventually. They work good at grabbing tanks versus T, hunting overlords vs Z, and my favorite use just swooping in to kill Queens.
MC made phoenix play look really good versus Jinro in the GSL as well, so annoying
I dunno, I think I liked the Group stages of RO16 better, but last nights games were worth watching
GSL
Spoiler
highlight: Jinro vs Idra, Game 2 lasts less than 5 minutes. Jinro does 1 rax expand, but sees an opportunity and 2 bunker blocks the bottom of Idras ramp. He sees it, and just GGs instantly. Truly Idra style.
Jinro vs Idra Game 4, idra 6 pools on Jungle Basin and loses; but controversy arises as Jinro admits he heard the commentators shout through his booth. Ends up not helping him, he wins with a 5 hp marine who manages to get into a bunker and idra ggs out. Idras mis micro lost this for him
(Jinro wins 3-1)
MarineKing vs Nada: Two Words: Base Trade.
Twice. Really epic games but Nada really made some questionable choices all day.
[details=Spoiler] idra is dumb… he wasn’t even close to being out of the game on that metalopolis match when he gg’d. He was behind, but it was far from over, especially since he didn’t lose an expo.
He also made a major micro mistake on Jungle Basin by letting that marine live. I don’t see how he let that happen.[/details]
hmm, Idra is definitely one of my favorite players but he needs to change his attitude at times, because he acts way too erratic and he ends up losings his cool. It’s one thing to lose your cool playing unranked games, it’s another thing when its your livelihood… Props to Jinro for making it far again in the tournament…
Don’t think there is one really. I kinda like the admins though, it’s like when SF4 came out on this site only 100x worth with all the noobies posting about terran imbalance QQ in every thread. I don’t blame them for having an iron fist
Idra Rage
Spoiler
Idra would rather quit than waste his time playing from behind, seriously just baneling all in or something. The guy really needs to learn some sort of 1 base play for when something like that happens, or just patrol/use an overlord to spot. Jinro even said that wasn’t his plan, but Idra gave him an opening and he’d have to be stupid not to take it. Hell Jinro was preparing for a 1 rax expand for fucks sake.
what’s the interest level there for SC2 in skorea, and are tons of people still playing brood war? if ur playing sc2 ladder on the korea servers, i can only imagine that the competition is brutal.
I’m not playing Starcraft 2 at all right now. All I have is a 1.8 GHZ dual core laptop with integrated graphics at the moment. I got to high silver league before I said fuck the game because I was getting an average of like 5 FPS. MY apm was limited to how fast my computer was moving. I was still beating people, but it was just too stressful that I had to play twice as good to beat someone with a better computer.
I’ll be coming back to Starcraft 2 after I get my tax refund and buy a real computer (desktop)… then I’m aiming for diamond/master’s league. Hell if I can get D+ on Iccup it shouldn’t be too hard to get Diamond on SC2.
Anyways no I have a US account. I could get a Korean account if I bugged my Korean girlfriend, but I’d rather not get raped by every Korean I play with shenanigan builds and stuff. Those Koreans are quite creative…
I honestly don’t know the interest level of SC2 in Korea… I know just as much as you. I know Brood War is pretty popular though. Brood War is still shown on TV and not SC2. I also saw Flash on a commercial before a TV show started. I guess BW > SC2 still in Korea, until BW completely dies off… whenever that happens. Korea seems to not like “change”
Hell I still see everyone using Windows XP Service Pack 3 in Korea. PC Bangs… my GF’s laptop… etc
