lemme just say how retarded zvz banes/lings vs banes/lings is
dont look at army for a second hear a splash and bam u just lost hella lings to 1 or 2 banelings or something ridiculous like that
Spread out some lings, take control of towers. No excuses if you don’t see em coming. Burrow helps.
Sensor towers do not detect cloaked units.
Not only were roaches 1 supply, but they had 2 innate armor too. For 75 minerals and 25 gas, you could get a 145 hp, 2 armor, 16 range 3 attacking unit that pretty much made everything in Tier 1 crap its pants.
Lings do 5 damage unupgraded, versus roaches that’d be 3 damage per attack… it’d take a pack of lings 49 attacks against a roach to take it down. The roach, on the other hand, deals 16 damage and can 3 shot a ling (needs +2 damage before it 2 shots them). Cost wise, 4 lings = 1 roach, so at a ratio of 4 to 1 the roaches would decimate the lings (also, 4 lings = 2 supply vs 1 supply of roaches, so you can get more roaches faster than you could get lings due to less overlords needed).
So yes, beta play was completely dominated by roaches.
That’s not even getting into the fact they had an innate healing ability (while burrowed) that made them heal super fast, and an upgraded ability that made them literally unkillable by some units (an upgraded burrowed roach could survive ling and zealot attacks and stay at full health).
Blizz eventually nerfed the armor to 1, and upped the supply to 2, as well as making the now upgraded ability for healing equal to the old innate ability; I think that was a bit drastic. At 2 supply I’d love to see the armor back up to 2, or perhaps the damage toned down a bit to 12ish, and put them back into the role of tanks that they were designed for. Being able to attack, get weak, burrow and heal up instantly was a cool idea for a unit that fell by the wayside. And lets face it, zerg needs a bit of help in this area right now.
Manually rallying to separate minerals is probably ideal but it’s not that big of a deal. Set healthbars to be shown all the time in gameplay options. There’s no way to show the ingame clock.
It was a really big buff too that they decided to combine Tunneling Claws with that old upgrade the increased the regen underground. The old regen upgrade was hive tech even so the roach has seen some decent buffs to it.
I’d love for it to have 2 armor again but it seems hard to balance an early unit with 2 armor.
yes but you would have lings, and maybe spine crawlers for some D while you got up to mutas, I dont like the idea of my opponent having mutas while I have roaches. Or even hydras, cause mutas can use there hit and run tactics and are faster and can fly. By the time my hydras get back to base from half way across the map for mutas attacking my base there will be enough damage done for my opponent to expand and keep me in check since mutas are so fast
Nah, I dominated roach builds in ZvZ with muta/ling before roach lost an armor and before they became 2 supply dawg. You’re just talking about Roach vs Ling ON PAPER. You’re not taking actual gameplay into account. You can’t just ignore the Zerglings biggest advantage, SPEED, when you’re talking about what beats what.
Like my post above said, the main strength of muta/ling was that if the roach player left their base, I could initiate a base trade, which I would win. Also, I would get an EXTREMELY early +1 melee attack, which had the same effect that the later -1 armor balance change had: speedling domination (So after roach lost an armor, it was really, really over).
If you ever needed to defend a roach attack, all you had to do was watch for when they move out, and then get a few spine crawlers. Pincer/surround with lings when they get to your base and engage the spine crawlers.
im still trying to find out why Hydras cost 100 min. Its just way to much, there not really that broken and can be taken out by a lot of other ground units
thanks for the tips ufgt and jie
hit me up again tonight plz
Well their dps is pretty insane to be quite honest. I can’t think of another unit that pumps out that much damage to pretty much the entire roster equally that costs a similar amount.

Gold tier Protoss so far. Play lots of 1v1s with friends and obs.
I just wish they had there speed upgrade they would be so much more useful
Well, just finished the story, so time to hit the practice leagues.
It’s called spreading that creep!
Thanks, the guy is helpful but he could have cut the time down by half. One of the difficult things that I have a hard time doing is pressing the CTRL key with the 1 key. Is there an easy way to do that?
lol your so silly
In all honesty nothing beats a decent gateway mixture better than ling/hydras. The clutch there is the colossi that might enter the field but you’ll need to get creative there…if you scout no stargate you can try to tank the dmg with roaches for a bit or use infestors to NP them. If they get stargate mutas/corrupters will be necessary. Hydras are REALLY effective against zealots/stalkers/sentries. All of this goes even further if you follow Willy’s advice to spread your creep.
I love the creep. If the situation allows for it i’ll try to have an extra queen and have three tumors going around the map.
Im no expert but in ZvZ it appears to be zerglings-then benglinds-then mutas. I normally go for mutas as quickly as possible and send in a zergling at a time if my opponent sends benglings after me so they arent destroying my zerg army. Or if I notice he doesnt make a bengling thing i’ll have a couple. But I am on low level play compared to you guys. Still though, those are the three i see in the korean matches all the time
