I’m surprised this interview with Bog Iger hasn’t made it’s way on here

Interesting part of the interview relating to Star Wars

R: Many believe Disney should pump the breaks and not put out a Star Wars movie each year.

Iger: I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven’t been specific about. And we are just at the point where we’re going to start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.'s. But I think we’re going to be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.

It’s interesting how it doesn’t bring up Rian Johnson’s trilogy at all. There’s a lot of ā€œweā€ on there suggesting he’s much more hands-on when it comes to Star Wars. Whenever the reporter asks him Marvel related questions he shows complete trust in Feige.

Feige turned a couple of billions into a 14 billion dollar enterprise.

Wouldnt you have full trust in him too?

Yeah and Marvel’s only misfires under Disney are still the biggest in top blockbusters for the years they debut.

Still why people act like anything in Hollywood is the fault of one person is ridiculous.

Notice he didn’t mention Rian Johnson

When you’re in charge of something, your badically on control of a bunch of things. The other side of that is that when things go south, its your chin thats gonna take a straight.

Ultimately one person was in charge of signing off on certain decisions and accepting responsibility for their outcomes. You get to enjoy the success, like Feige can, or catch shit for fuck ups like KK.

The neat thing about the Star Wars situation is how much nonsense both sides have thrown at each other. Fascinating in a bunch of different ways.

The mouse has stepped in to manage the issues KK and Rian Johnson made for themselves. A roadmap was made but KK gave Rian more freedom than he should have. I bet KK will be out after 9 is done. She’ll probably ā€œchooseā€ to step down later on. After Disney spent so much to get Lucasfilm they don’t want to squander that purchase if the last few films didn’t meet expectations. Add to that how much they poured into merch, branding and new theme park expansions, yeah KK will now have to have hand held to ensure that 9 will succeed and get the fans that were pushed away.

Return of the Jedi pt. II?

I think Iger’s comments are well crafted, but if Johnson’s trilogy is done, there would be a report about it. Disney is in damage control mode right now. Rebuild consumer confidence and have a few tried and true examples and then make it known about the new trilogy. I feel that RJ is well suited suited making something along this more standalone route.

i’d forgive Disney for everything if they gave this game a 2nd chance.

There is large part of the fanbase that won’t touch anything with Rian Johnson’s name on it. The trilogy would be handicapped from the beginning. The Rian Johnson Trilogy is going to be another Man of Steel 2. You’ll keep hearing that it’s coming, it will never get officially cancelled, and it will also never get made.

We live in a society where outrage lasts all of 30 seconds and use hashtags for activisism. The possibility of it being cancelled is there but if they put a movie or two in-between, it’ll be fine. The man made a piece of film people didn’t like, but he certainly isn’t a hack. Besides, if the movie is no longer in the slate of projects, that is an official cancellation. Press would be done about the others and not that project. When asked, someone at Disney will let us know; in turn giving us that nail in the coffin some seek.

Which would matter if Johnson pissed off casuals, he pissed off diehard fans. These people aren’t going to forget.

I think it’s a vocal minority of fans that will honestly never give it a shot. Let the franchise take a minute to breathe and it’ll all work out in the end. If people know that they have someone at the helm that is a solid architect for a story, it’ll still do well. He won’t be let back into the main story again for sure, but things that are isolated or peripherally connected, I think he’s safe.

I disagree with you on that. Merchandise sales are in the toilet as well. If the number of disenfranchised Star Wars fans were as few as the main stream media lets on, I don’t think Solo nor their merchandising sales would be down so much. Ultimately, time will tell.

The die hards buy the most expensive junk but overall units of most products are moved by the masses.

I still put Solo 's failure more on trying to bank on overblown nostalgia and poor timing trying to cram it into a overstuffed summer battlefield.

Since when are action figures expensive? What are action figures? $15 a piece?

In fact yes. Star Wars Black Series figures run from $15 to as much as $50 depending on the release. The more collector focused items include the Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys figures that start at roughly $150 and could reach into the $400 price point. Then you have a number of the Lego releases like the most recent Millennium Falcon. That kit was $800 and sold out in about 15 minutes in its first run.

saw Solo.
tis actually really freaking good like Preppy said. tho i hate agreeing with mods. makes me feel like i’m betraying my troll nature.
where do i rank it among the last 4 SW films? havent decided yet. its def top 2 for me, but havent decided if i like it more than R1.
one thing im sure of is the NT is my least fav storyline of the Disney SW.

one thing tho.
the color of Solo.
its…very brown. you either see a palette of brown or grey. very very very muted color scheme.
i never had a problem seeing wtf was going on, but then again im watching at home and not in a theater.
but for whatever reason someone, director or cinematographer decided on a ā€œcolor schemeā€ for the film and decided on brown/grey.
tho i do feel the color brown defines the characters of Solo and Chewie.
both have brown hair, and wearing brown.
um. idk if it was a good idea to go with such a dull muted color scheme.
not so bad, persay. but not so good either.
sure it goes well for the characters but such a drab color isnt very exciting to the eyes either.
minor gripe.
i think they were tring a sort of ā€œhey lets do what guillermo del toro did with The Shape of Water when he gave everything a emerald green color tone to his movie cuz artā€
but…somehow i’m not sure the same concept worked in this movie.
my two cents.

btw, Solo is out on amazon vid, i’ll assume google play store and netflix too. its how i saw it today.
rented not purchased.

Now you can watch the Solo Honest trailer and see why that color grade joke is so true LOL.

I really enjoyed Solo (leaps and bounds over R1). It’s also has probably the best movie packaging I’ve seen for a Star Wars Steelbook release to date.
