Star Wars

Ah, I see what I watched-- a separate fan edit, based on “the Grace cut”:

I really am tired of Hollywood taking advantage of peoples nostalgia to fuel their sales. I think it’s a huge mistake to continue the series chronologically, what should have been done with the franchise is taking the greatness of the setting and using it to tell a NEW story. I don’t want to see the Millennium Falcon again, I don’t want to see the original characters or their kids again, all of that is just nostalgia wankery that I have no time for. Other works, such as the video games, comics and books show what a deep setting Star Wars is and how much you can do with it. For one thing I’d like a time period where the Sith are a force and the Jedi are a true order, not just a couple random guys on both sides. But oh well, we’re not going to get that, it’s just going to be a rehash of the OT story themes with lens flares.

For whatever reason, the movies try to be more “realistic” which I think is a little far fetched when you’re waving around lethal glow sticks and have the power of telekinesis and foresight. The powers are all there but for whatever reason they are used exceedingly sparingly, and the bulk of the movies focuses on other things. The games don’t shy away from the powers or having a lot of practitioners on either side or battles or anything at all. They have “The Force” out in the open instead of being possibly a figment of imagination or some sort of mysticism that people don’t even believe exists as in the movies.

I doubt VII will even be that good, we’ll probably watch it and still talk about it, but my expectations are fairly low. It’ll probably be fairly formulaic and won’t take any big risks. Probably there will be some “female empowerment” somewhere in there too. I know people complained about there being a black guy in the movie already, but I’m pretty sure there will be some strategically placed minorities who you’re made very well aware are minorities.

Clone Wars is still canon. Basically anything shown on screen, either big or small is still canon.

It made sense in the OT for people to be skeptical of the Jedi and the Force since they had been wiped out for decades. The prequels certainly didn’t work that way, the Jedi were even official emissaries of the galactic government, and their powers were well known. And, they were the generals and leaders during the Clone Wars. And Lucas did all of that himself, so you can’t claim it’s only the EU worked that way. So, not having the Force and the Jedi be a prevalent power is only true in the OT, but unfortunately, the new movies will probably follow OT themes.

And since the main character in the new films is female, yeah, that will obviously play in. And JJ Abrams flat out stated he specifically avoided casting white people as he feels they are overrepresented in the movie industry. Always a great sign when a guy is making decisions on the movie based off political reasoning. This movie will probably just end up another Abrams flick, a decent action movie with LENS FLARE ACTION, that makes additional revenue due to the fact he’s utilizing a popular IP. AKA Star Trek all over again.

The 2001/2/3 w/e year it was Clone Wars Cartoon isnt canon.

The Cartoon Movie, Series after said movie and rebels are.

So are the ones on Netflix cannon? I’m confused.

Wait so Grevious being the ultimate badass isn’t cannon.

Well fuck you Lucas and who ever rlse

Yea. Disney pretty much went: “Books and anything that didnt come out in like the past 7 years isnt canon”

After the failure that Jar Jar Binks was, Lucas quit Star Wars:

Empire Magazines May 2005:

“The rumour of Episodes VII, VIII and IX was a popular question, and Lucas summed it up with one word, and then two: ‘Never! Absolutely never!’ Luckily for us, he then elaborated. 'This is all that’s ever been written about it. It was the story of Darth Vader, you know, it starts when he’s 10 years old and ends when he dies.”

Fate of the Jedi series came out a few years ago. So does that mean that series is canon?

You wrote that books that did not come out in the past 7 years is not canon. This series did come out in the past 7 years thus making the series canon…

does anyone have an opinion regarding The People vs George Lucas film?

yunno,
one guy that never gets the credit he deserves for his contribution to Star Wars’s success…is Ralph McQuarrie
it was his artistic vision to the conceptual idea of Lucas that really gave the Star Wars universe the distinct look it has.

I mean, just look at these paintings. These paintings have so much scope. An atmosphere of immense size and scope to the backgrounds…that makes people seem like they are the minor part of a greater story. like its a believable universe.
Plus a lot of the iconic imagery of Star Wars that stay burned into your memory,…is directly due to Ralph McQuarrie.

some more

a great artist. RIP Ralph

That picture of the Jawa crawler reminds me, there’s a building near where I live that looks just like one.

Pretty cool Millennium Falcon drone

Nice someone finally does something with a Drone I can actually get behind.

I personally enjoyed that documentary, and I agreed with the argument put forth by the documentary. The hilarious thing was that the intro of the documentary had a quote from George Lucas which his special editions of star wars went against. Here is the full speech he made. http://www.slashfilm.com/george-lucas-speaks-altering-films-1988/ I think if people enjoy the special editions, that is fine and they have a right to do so. I think George Lucas trying to destroy the original version of Star Wars and keep the original version out of hands of people who want it is just him being a tyrant. I want the OG versions restored to blue ray, not tampered with to fit a newer revision that the original movies never told.
