It means the movie had a large box office drop like the other movies listed. That’s all
I do anticipate the movie will have a grinding box office halt as word of mouth continues to be split and as fans, your repeat viewers, continue to dislike the movie. It will be a heavily front loaded movie.
There are other movies that had large openings, and were meant with hatred from audiences, and fall apart afterwards. That has happened
I think it helps to remember that these movies are aimed at kids just as much as adults. That said, as an adult, I didn’t particularly like this movie.
Spoiler
My biggest annoyance was that it could have changed the entire dynamic of star wars (for the better IMO) and it didn’t. When Kylo kills Snoke and gives his “let it all die” speech, I really fucking agreed with him. It seemed up until that point that the story would take a turn like that anyway, from Luke’s attitude, to Po learning his lesson about not being a “hero”, and to Finn finding out about the arms dealers selling to both sides.
Let the rebel/empire dynamic die and focus on the personal stories of growth and change, maybe even introduce a third entity, something to be a “big bad” like the white walkers in GoT. It would be much more interesting to me to see a light/dark struggle happen inside both Rey and Kylo and maybe they stay together to tug-of-war with each other’s natures. Maybe they both walk away from the empire and the rebels only to be hunted down by both? The fact they were connecting through the force was really interesting (even IF it was Snoke’s doing). Just give me something, ANYTHING newer and better than Luke changing his mind and saying ok, new Jedi, new rebellion, it’s all starting over, here’s a kid who wants to join the rebellion someday, credits.
I like that Yoda looked like a puppet again.
Leia was a big turn off for me as well. Her character always seemed like she was more of a clairvoyant force user, and not the type to force push herself back onto a ship, or destroy a door. She was already physically tough in the originals and the clairvoyance would be a big asset as a general. They also had an easy out for the death of Carrie Fisher, and didn’t take it. Let her die in that scene, let Luke and Rey and Kylo feel it, use reshoots for the third act without her there. It’s more fuel for Rey’s anger, a good motivator for Luke and a good chance to show more conflict in Kylo.
While I agree that Kevin Smith’s stanning is disappointing, never underestimate the profitability of an international release; especially with the huge Chinese middle class audience that helps rake in the big bucks for many Hollywood blockbusters. This movie will make its money regardless.
They had two outs in the film. 1) In the beginning when the bridge was destroyed. 2) Have Leia do the blind hyperspace jump into the Supremacy.
It just leaves the question of how will the next film address Fisher’s death. Have Leia die off-screen? CGI Leia? Her death certainly left a hole in the narrative in the new trilogy.
If they had killed Leia off you would still have had people bitching that they didn’t honor Fisher’s final performance by cutting her out of most of the movie. It’s a damned if they do, damned if they don’t scenario. I don’t believe it should be viewed as a flaw and if you happen to view it as a flaw then you have to understand that it can’t be helped. A real person died.
So i finished the video and that sounded interesting but… i don’t get what it had to do with Star Wars lol. The guy sounded like he was reaching awfully hard for those ‘connections’ too.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. I only watched the video for the alleged Star Wars stuff. Of which there was little to be had. It was just some “white male” doing social commentary of the times, while making just enough mention of Star Wars so that the title of the video wouldn’t be faulty.
I don’t mind these kind of feedback vids. Watching a fanboy tirade for 5+ minutes is terrible.
While I was entertained, Disney has a very long road for Episode 9. Killing everything in the EU was a bad idea. So many great stories in that set. The First Order better be getting those Death Star IV (Starkiller Base II) funds ready.
I do wonder if Rian Johnson will still be getting that trilogy. Personally, I think he could do it if they allowed him to create a story with no limitations.
At 26:14 explains the whole problem.
The problem is there is a prevailing ideology that does not believe in universal truths and believe truths are subjective (nothing concrete, always revise).
Welcome to the era of Star Wars under Moral Relativism. The EU died for this.
