[details=Spoiler]Kylo and Ren didn’t kill the Knights of Ren. They killed Snoke personal guard.
If there was nothing to discover or learn from the Jedi texts Rey wouldn’t have a reason to steal them. They are obviously important to her.
That lightsaber has significance. It cannot simply be replaced.
The force developing in a random kid isn’t going to be throwaway. That’s a sign for things to come. Hell, that same kid might end up a main character in the next Star Wars trilogy. [/details]
. . . . and at the end he state’s that he felt Rian was the man for the job. Personally, I liked Old Man Luke. Lets face it, Post Order 66, the Jedi Retirement Benefits package doesn’t look so hot.
I won’t go too deep into this but The Last Jedi broke my fucking heart. I could not believe what was happening to me while watching this film. Never have I experienced such despair while watching a film. Disney were tearing apart everything I held dear about these characters and this story one scene at a time. Yes, I am old enough to know that nothing is sacred when it has a dollar value attached to it. But this was on another level. I will NOT watch Episode 9 in the cinemas or any other future Star Wars movie. Absolutely irredeemable. Absolutely unforgivable.
Besides having the best visuals of any of its predecessors, TLJ is far and above the worst Star Wars movie ever conceived. Please do not watch it. Do not support these monsters.
No. Attack of the Clones was stupid, but it did not betray the narrative. TLJ was a god damn middle finger to Star Wars. It was cheap and hollow. Just awful writing. Absolutely awful. The disparity between how good the movie looks and sounds, and how terrible the writing was is a fucking chasm.
No Star Wars movie will be worse than the Phantom Menace to me. That is the low standard. Last Jedi is a flaw movie but I gave a shit about what was happening and the acting wasn’t wooden.
Yes. Alien3 is my favorite Alien movie. I savor the deaths of Hicks and Newt, and the film’s complete abandonment of what “Aliens” brought to the table while bringing back the trilogy full circle to the nihilistic horror of the futility of our existence in the face of such a perfect creature.
There is no comparison here though, so I am not sure why you are bringing this up besides a silly attempt to try discredit my opinion. The Alien franchise as good as it has been, is not on the scale of Star Wars. The Alien franchise did not betray its hero Ellen Ripley and gave her a most noble of deaths (Ripley8 is not Ellen Ripley).
You know, after giving it some thought. I could rock with the idea of Luke turning his back on the Jedi and simply wanting it to fade into myth, but create a better catalyst for this. Not he briefly thought about killing his nephew, his nephew flips out and destroys his school so he takes his ball and goes home while billions of people are slaughtered in his absence. In fact Lukes whole arc would make more sense if there wasn’t a galaxy spanning war going on. It would be more interesting if this new trilogy was more character driven and less epic space battles. Make it more suspenseful like the The Hunt For Red October or something.
That’s the actual biggest flaw with this movie. Great ideas executed fucking terribly. I said it when TFA came out, I’ll say it again, these movies should have happened way in the future so it could avoid the trappings of the old movies and tell it’s own story without worrying about what came before it. As it stands now these movies are half running on “ohh member Luke? Member the Millenium Falcon?” which hurt it more than help it.
The thing is, even ignoring the OT, there are some story-telling red flags, weak characterizations and overall weak dialogue in TLJ. How much of that can be attributed to Rian Johnson or the mouse I don’t know but it doesn’t instill the most confidence in me as far as his upcoming trilogy.
