Star Wars

sheeeit, that might be interesting if Rey actually had no parents at all…like we find out she wasn’t born like a normal “human” in that universe…she was created or magically spawned from the Force itself.

I would like to see Rey actually go “dark side” for the final showdown though…then another “good guy” character possibly has to fight her after she kills Kylo…preferrably this one is a close friend… Then you get that emotional moment from that character having to kill his friend that has now become a monster. This definitely wouldn’t happen though, especially if we’re talking about a presumably straight male character having to save the day. That isn’t allowed anymore in mainstream movies and tv shows, comics, etc. The women are supposed to *always *be superior, perfect beings while the men are flawed, stupid, evil creatures that must be stopped. Hollywood has been gradually moving into this trend for a while now.

The problem with a Kylo v Rey showdown in the final movie, is she’s already bested him in the first movie. He was injured, sure, but she’s only gotten better since the TFA. She’s pretty much his equal now. Which is the problem she was too powerful from the get-go. When you create a character so strong from the jump there’s really nowhere to go from there and you lose all tension. That’s why the scene at the end of movie fell flat for me even though it was handled like it was supposed to be something special. We’ve already seen her use the force, in both movies.

Slaaaaaay queen

And I’m surprised that Rogue One is low on everyone’s list. I enjoyed that movie more than TFA and TLJ. Actually made me care about the characters and the story flowed well.

Rogue One is my favorite of the new movies. I don’t get how it’s rated so low by most here.

Rogue One was not terrible, but wasn’t all that engaging till the latter part of the movie. This was one of my reasons. However, they do cover one of the reasons behind why Rey isn’t all that great as a protagonist .

I will say this- All these people acting like The Last Jedi has “killed Star Wars” and their opposite numbers acting like its the bestest thing ever need to sit down.

Rey is serviceable as the lead. Daisy Ridley (much like Hamill back in the day) doesn’t get enough credit for her work and acting improvement from TFA to this.

It’s not her fault the writers refuse to give her character a physical struggle to match her internal ones.
It’s like writers and directors are afraid to showcase a woman getting her ass kicked on film.

the last jedi didn’t kill star wars. it just made me realize that i can’t really expect the series to turn it around. theres only one real star wars trilogy, everything else is bad fanfiction.

Finn:looks at Rey …YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE! :annoyed:

Spoiler

Why didn’t Holdo tell anyone the plan?

[details=Spoiler]
Well she didn’t have too. She didn’t need too.

In the real world military, no one but the very top gets to know the plans.
Your place is not to know but to follow. As as Poe got demoted he was pushed out of the loop.

Also if there was a Spy on board and everyone knew the plans, the First Order now knows the plans.

it goes by that old saying, loose lips sink ships. [/details]

Rogue One was alright. It suffered mainly in it’s “Why are all these side characters so much more interesting than our main character? Why is the robot the best written character in the film?”

I still liked TFA better than it though, simply because the charm Finn exuded was masterful and they hadn’t mangled Poe’s character yet (and Isaac damn near stole the show in only 15 minutes worth of screentime).

I honestly don’t think there’s anything wrong with the** actors** in these movies. If the writing was even halfway decent most people wouldn’t have too much of a problem with this movie. It’d be by the numbers, but it wouldn’t be bad. Definitely personal preference, but not bad (much like how others regard the TFA, even though I enjoyed that movie, I know some of my friends didn’t).

But in this instance, the writing was garbage. And, unlike a book, the worldbuilding can’t save it.

Also

I don’t think people disliked the prequel trilogy for being “different” over them being terrible in the first place.

but it is interesting from reading some reactions how sorta similar this is to Alien Covenant where a lot of people expected an Aliens movie and after it turned out to be something else absolutely hated it while others enjoyed for what it was. I can see the parallel between the two especially with a clearly divided opinion (zomg it sucks vs it’s brilliant better than ESB)

Those memes are very simple. The reason why people hate TFJ is not because of the material, it’s the story. Poorly written, with shitload of plotholes combined with shitload of plot armor, and shitty subplots and useless characters.

Alien Covenant was bad.

I lost brain cells watching that movie.

I’d rather watch The Room again than watch that movie ever again.

It’s usually the critics hating and the fans loving but this film managed to flip that on it’s head lol.
I can’t wrap my head around people putting phantom menace over this. Really?

Yea that’s embellishing. But I will TFJ on equal footing with RotS.

The Room you can have fun with. You can have your buddies around with beers and laugh all night

Aien Covenant is a movie that spends almost it’s entire run time trying to justify it’s existence. Another dull movie that will put you to sleep

I wouldn’t go that far.

And the new trilogy has a ways to go before they hit Clone Wars rock bottom, but the movie wasn’t good by any stretch (IMO). When you take the two most beloved characters from TFA (Finn and Poe) and diminish their characters like they’ve did with this movie they should have probably expected backlash.

The Force is practically the definition of plot armor LOL
