I don’t see how understanding that actors, if skilled enough, can be people they are absolutely nothing like makes you retarded. Pretending to be people they aren’t is an actors job. Lando’s not even all that difficult a character to be he doesn’t exactly have a whole lot of depth or anything. You haven’t even really pointed out how he’s a bad fit, just that you don’t like his politics, like big fucking deal, he could be a flat earther, I struggle to find fucks to give about it. His politics don’t mean shit, can he play the character or not? That’s what matters here. Mannerisms are something that any actor worth a damn can tame and adjust if need arises.

While I admittedly don’t like Donald Glkover as a rapper, I DO like him as a personality. His acting is to be determined… and I think he’s a great fit for Lando. Let’s face it, Billy Dee Williams was a fucking super star at that time, he was basically on some Idris Elba shit back in the 80’s. These were the days of Television when you still had quality TV movies being made, mini series like Roots, The Winds of War, and Lonesome Dove. He was super big as a black actor and him being cast as Lando was a big deal.
It was also the very reason I GOT to see Return of the Jedi in the movie theatre. I still remember my mom and her best friend debating on see it or not and her fried goes “giiiiiirl… it got Billy Dee Williams in it…” and that was it… moms was sold. And my two friends and I rejoiced with mock lightsaber battle…
Anyhow… Donald Glover is a very well-respected and wide-ranging personality. He can do wonders with it. I admire him because he is a former Jehovah’s Witness kid, who managed to get out of that shit, get educated, and make something great out of himself, which is the exact opposite of everything JWs try to instill in you.

To this day I couldn’t tell you one thing about any of the politics of any of the original cast other than Harrison Ford likes Planes and Carrie Fisher liked drugs, and when it comes to Starwars I want it to stay that way. And yes, I think Disney and JJ Abrams like to cast people want to be vocal about shit the company supports.
