NO!

Yes! Holding onto the past is part of what made the last 3 lame and cringe.

No, because it gives fuel to idiots like Alpha Charlie.

Being dismissive of the past to prop up the new characters was the problem. It’s a terrible story telling tactic with zero benefit. All you do is risk agitating the existing fanbase and making them nonreceptive to whatever you are seeking to tell.

I saw the reason many call it “dismissive” is because the EU exists and made the canon implode on itself. It’d be far less likely that there would have been as much backlash if 20+ years of a precedent weren’t made. This is honestly while the Mandalorian works so well. It’s does the Star Wars well enough that it feels at home while not destroying the canonical minutia. I am pretty certain that if Boba Fett was in fact the titular character, this would be a different conversation.

I didn’t think the new movies where dismissive of the past much at all. In fact they where, imo, hamstrung by it and constantly making call backs to it. That pissed people off at first so they went with kill the past and that pissed people off even more (Even tho the guy who touted this idea fucking lost) and just spent the rest of the trilogy tip toeing on both.

Talking to a number of SWs fans over the last few years im pretty convinced the SW fanbase doesn’t know what it actually wants. Individuals within that umbrella know what they want but it isnt a consensus like YouTube talking heads would like you to believe.

It’s never a good sign when you have to put a gag order on the most beloved actor in the franchise. That’s about as big of red flag as you can get.

You know what they want -

It’s both. The sequel trilogy lacked focus and couldn’t choose whether to fully embrace the new or cling to nostalgia.

As for what I want. I don’t mind the main movies being about the Skywalker saga at all. Kinda like the Legend of Zelda series, each one is the same but told differently. Maybe that is the way to handle Star Wars. Each trilogy is about a different Skywalker and doesn’t have to be about space wizards swinging beam katanas.

any other story (TV, Disney +, cartoon, spin off movie) should be about everything else that can happen in the universe. Sure make a nod here and there but keep them self contained stories. That’s what I want as a Star Wars Fan.
