Star Wars Thread

As a cultural event in the for the masses, perhaps, but end of a franchise. . . . . of a franchise . . . .

That’s hyperbole to the nth degree.

Clone wars really revives the franchise

The cartoons are the best part of the canon

Yo’ this needs to be the new Obi-Wan series!!

Watched the force awakens last night. It ain’t a bad flick, but something about it feels… off? Not Star Wars? I dunno, the whole vibe of the movie just doesn’t line up with any of the other movies for me.

I feel like it was the cinematography. Abrams does a shit ton of dutch angles and weird panning and tracking shots that just make it not feel like Star Wars to me.

There’s a shot when Kylo Ren is walking down a hallway and the camera is full on “you opened your phone and forgot you have the selfie camera on” mode. It’s super weird looking and feels, I dunno, un-Star Wars? And the fucking dutch angles KILL ME. There are soooo many! Every time Rey has a moment where she either feels the force or needs to fart they throw a dutch angle.

I guess every other star wars cinematography is more static, but i feel like that’s to its benefit. Star Wars always has so much to see on screen, so keeping the camera steady give you the chance to see all the cool space shit.

Am I crazy? anyone else see it like this?

It’s JJ Abrams style to be honest. There are a lot of similarities between this and Star Trek (2009) sans lens flare.

I remember a distinct lack of wipes in TFA.

It irks the hell out of me that neither of the JJ movies have commentary tracks. Not yet sure if I want to buy the 9 saga set or just the BD Steelbook.

TFA the special 3d version has one actually.
I have it.

I know, but buying that just seemed like a Disney cash grab for no reason. The only reason I am partially considering the 9 movie set is that the first 6 movies come with digital codes.

Because money.

When that came out I literally refrained from it. There is no way that they could make me believe that it wasn’t already on the table.

Having the commentary just gives you that extra bit of insight into what the director was thinking with that scene. The OG movies took it a step further as it was Lucas and the cast members for certain points within the commentary.

I think the only audio commentaries I’ve ever listened to are Death to Smoochy and the Rick and Morty Blu-Rays.

I just don’t really find that stuff interesting.

It’s only good if you want to know how the sausage was made. The two JJ movies are the ones I’d really appreciate them on.
