I am up to the challenge. But even so, we would still need to beat someone like Axel F Hardbody Kelly off the top 5, he is beasting.
Of course it would be a round robin tournament, there is no other way
so Dec 7th it is?
I dunno, most of the ST people seem completely against a round robin tournament to determine the 5v5.
I am for it even though there’s a good chance I won’t make top 5 anyways. I missed 3rd place overall last season by a couple of points to Mandel, who everyone acknowleges is a skilled player…yet I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say anything positive about my play.
I just would rather I get excluded from a 5v5 because I actually didn’t play well than because I have a hard time getting respect from other players even when I do play pretty decently. But pretty much the rest of the players have spoken, so I’ll just practice again to go to Portland and rep myself. :karate:
well shit, then if I am considered 5th seat, then I have to take all the challenges
Can there only be one team? Is there anyone else humble enough to accept the fact that they’re not one of the top 5 ST players and live with it/join a different team? Am I missing something?
P.S. I wouldn’t consider you fifth seat…
I wasn’t really for the idea of a round robin but I suppose it’s not a bad idea, since the odds of me making it are considerably low. To be honest, I don’t see why rankings shouldn’t play a factor in member selection. After all if we were to go by the ranbats (yes I actually typed it out this time), then the top five would be:
Julien
Keith
Me
Nate
Alex
All of which placed high, consistently. But anyway, I think it’d be dope to see people play for spots. I’d especially want to see Julian vs Pablo. This is like, an anticipated bout or something hahaha. The question is though, if we’re playing for spots, who’s exactly playing? I don’t think Julien should have to play anybody. In all honesty, I don’t think anyone who’s in the top 5 should. The goal is to win the 5v5 after all. Whatever’s decided on, you guys have my support.
Didn’t Portland post up their team already? Something to think about, I’m sure they’re picking their best.
Honestly, I think this team would give us the highest chance of victory, and I have a feeling a tournament would most likely give us this team anyways
also, for reference, Portland’s team:
Again, I completely agree with Deezo’s list. We should keep things simple and go by the rankings. It is the most fair and balanced way to determine our 5v5 team. Of course being that this is Sir Julius’ thread and our point leader, I would like to see what he thinks.
You need to make another rap Marvel mix, and put the Victory instrumental in it. That’d be livestock.
Man, my execution is even shittier than before! I can’t pull off a friggin shoryu to save my life! Time to train hardcore and do a full reach-around win at Portland LOLOLOLOL!
I just played like 100 matches straight almost all with Dhalsim, some with Boxer… Dhalsim is dope, I’m learning how to actually play him! Haha. I’m familiar now with which of his normals to use when, didn’t realize how crazy his array of anti-airs really was. Took me halfway into the set to realize how beastly his headbutt is. Anyway, for once I’m cracking down and sticking to characters because I realize how important it is in ST. I’m feeling much more formidable in the game, though.
If Sunday or Monday is a good evening for people with DC converters, I’d like to throw a showdown. . . Love to hear back from people on that.
With Mandel and myself questionable for the 15th, the debate now rages regarding who should fill the 2 remaining spots. As with all 5v5’s, there is the ideal team, and there are the alternates. It’s very important to start determining the alternates early.
But while it’s easy to talk about whom the ideal team would be comprised of, the alternates’ primary merit should be whether they’ll attend. Actually being there is the first requisite for being an alternate. In order to even be considered as an alternate, you should be 99% committed to making the trip.
I’ve actually resisted offering up my top 5 in print, but it’s 4AM, so I’ll just throw it out there. This was what I said on Sunday at Julien’s:
Julien
Nate
Mandel
Alex
Josh (but since jTm hasn’t been playing, take Pablo)
Please note that I named those individuals thinking that Mandel would make the trek. Blake wasn’t happy about the snub, and wanted to challenge Pablo to the Thunderdome. Also note that I made these selections thinking that there would be no duplicate characters.
I don’t think active player in Western Washington would argue the first 4 names on that list. But if Mandel’s skipping out, and if Pablo’s debatable to some, let the hopefuls that are certain to attend play it out for spots.
I’m still a fan of the captain system, where the best player decides the team. The justification being that the best player is able to dispassionately judge who best represents a region. It’s also quicker, and should the team lose, culpability falls on a single person, and most wouldn’t question the game knowledge (the only reasonable basis for determining membership) of your best player.
Actually an even more important matter would be whether this is happening at all. There was some talk of it early on in the Random Select thread, but I haven’t really heard any progress in a while.
-
Is it actually going to happen?
-
Does it go down during the “special events” timeslot at the end of the day?
-
What’s the format? Team elimination style or round robin? If it’s round robin, does it get called when one team has 13 wins, or is it meant to be an exhibition for fans to view all of the matches?
-
Should each team be limited to a single iteration of a character? This is what I’m most interested in, since it would play a huge factor in determining the team make-up. If I had a vote, I’d like to see zero duplicate characters on a single team, since I’ve never been a fan of watching repeated Old Sagat or Claw mirror matches.
-
Is there anything on the line other than pride and potential side bets? I hope not.
Yes, that would be important when playing a shoto. Notice how I just started jumping in ‘Pablo style’ after the 3rd game or so against you. Of course, you might have been building up my false confidence only to wreck me if we’re matched in tournament play.
Ah, the joys of quoting out of context.
Probably a no go for me.
Yet another return to my epic post ways. Once more, into the breach.
Yeah I might be the Shoryu master for all u know eh? LOL! and on quoting out of context I was hoping somebody would catch that hehe :lovin:
I can think of a couple of fair ways to select a team:
- Have a round robin tournament
- Have a voting system. Each seattle ST player can nominate five people, submit them to the voting manager, and the 5 people with the most votes win
There’s also going by popular (forum) opinion, and, as Keith mentioned, having one person be a captain and choosing, but both of these can lead to ruffled feathers.
In the end, I think we need to decide if we are trying to optimize for fairness, or for winning. If we know which we care about more, we can then pick a system that is in line with that goal.
Who, exactly, is going to get their feathers so ruffled? Most the disputes seem to be coming from who can show up and who can’t (get this shit figured out guys! )… I honestly believe that I could beat some of the latter members on the 5 team now, but I’m not complaining or anything. Voting is an idea, but I don’t think it would change a damn thing about the lineup and would just waste time.
But really though, is there someone who’s a slight potential member that would actually get butthurt if they weren’t on the team?
Anyway, I really am wondering, is this like a purely one team from seattle vs. one team from portland/seperate event from the regular ST tourney, or what? Sorry for all the questions but I’m confused. Is there the regular ST tourney and this pride battle, or is the tourney being held in this 5v5 format??
I nominate Sir Julius to pick the seattle team. The man is ST royalty. Also, shouldn’t we move this discussion over to the ST thread?
I’d say we should be trying to win, right? I don’t think anyone would disagree with me there
The tournament is a singles tournament, this is just an extra event
so unless Portland has two teams (which I doubt), then Seattle will probably only have one as well
I really don’t care, this debate about the method of picking the team is even more annoying than Pablo being suggested over me.
Where da ST at this week?
Point wise it should be you next in line. I just happened to be more vocal about me being able to defeat the lower ranked ST players. Thus, that is why I was ready to throw down against anyone, anywhere, anytime. That’s just how I do it.
Hey Pablo! I sent u a PM did u get it? if you did or didn’t LMK know eh?
