ST/SF2AE: OG Sagat

To all you Sagat fans out there. He’s supposed to be one of the most dominating characters in the game. In this thread let’s go through why, discuss certain matchups, tactics, etc. For those on the East Coast, ECCX is two months away. Time to strat it up.

Fuck Sagat play Gief.

But seriously though Sagats main game is keeping chars on lockdown with tiger shots and punishing any jump ins with his tiger uppercut other than that I think you should mix his game up with throws and such. Chars I would look out for are.

Bison since he gots long reach with his s.hk, psycho crusher chip damage and traps, and quick head stomps which can easily punish missed tiger shots.

Gief has his Spinning Lariat which evades tiger shots and his tick SPDs a bitch to get out of.

Rog gots his lock down normals and dash punches and his headbutt which also passes through projectiles.

O.Sagat got nerfed in AE…

I tried to revive it, but it died again.

Do a lot of standing short into low tiger. Best used at the max range of his short, where they are too close to fire a tiger shot safely, but they aren’t going to be stupid and jump either.

Drunken Master that thread was quite informative. Thanks.

I play SFAE online and I still use O.Sagat quite a bit…If you ask me he’s still pretty damn good. Maybe some of the Turbo/Champ characters mess him but, when on an ST or Super character I guess he still does great against that cast. I mean, why wouldnt he?

Is there any use for the high tiger shot? I throw em sometimes as anti airs or just to keep the opponent off balanced. I mean, ramming them with hard low tigers seems too preditcable sometimes I guess. Or is it beneficial to keep chucking the low ones away?

I just played a Vega on XBL today and Apoc’s guide worked. Thanks. I kept him on the ground and outside of a few random flip kicks or wall dives, I was able to keep him grounded and in the corner. But a matchup that troubles me is Sagat on Dee Jay. I try to keep him grounded, but his jumping roundhouse seems to have enough range to get me from near full screen distance.

Does ST Honda still do well vs Sagat?

I never knew that Honda did well against Sagat.

High tiger is zoning move. To nail them as the jump, or make then land on it, to to keep them from jumping. Usually though if you miss with it from half screen or closer, you’ll eat at least a punch to the arms after they duck it. Use from far.

Basically, when pounding away with low tigers, the high ones can be good to stick in if you think they will try to jump or to mix it up…

But N.Sagat LOVES high tigers. Ok for zoning, but fucking awesome in combos. If you do a 3 hit combo with a HP high tiger, it will most always dizzy. Seems to be his best dizzy move… they also come out faster than low ones i think, making them work better in combos anyhow (providing that the opponent is standing :/)
