The 0 input lag is actually done client side. This is where the rollbacks come into play… Once you press the button, it shows the animation without waiting for confirmation from the other client/server. If for some reason the server/other client overrides the data you sent, your client is updated giving the appearance of skipping animations, or a rollback. Having a central server act as a middle man increases the travel time of the data though, which will degrade performance.
OK then this is your mission dude should you choose to accept it :
Ask whoever you play teh most matches with regularly if he/she will be willing to download nfba and play a couple matches with you on it for recording purposes.
Should you fail : then maybe you could shoot me teh link to emerald mame and I’ll try to recruit one of my buddies to play a few matches for teh same reason.
Any ways brother, let me know how it turns out. BTW adding you to teh buddy list
edit: nvm its kaillera
OK, so I have played Nfba for about 2-3 weeks now. I have played about 12~15 ppl about 400-500 matches at least… I use to play loads on XBL.
Anyway, I played some casual/fun games with “brian” again last night (GGs, great Guile) … who BTW lives in BOSTON and for all practicle purposes could not live any father from me in the lower 48 states (I live in San Diego).
The connection (again) was pretty damn good. It wasn’t perfect, but we have established in this thread that net play will not be “perfect” due to the distance & geography between players. (Unless your denki, and live in japan! )
Now, I have to admit, for some reason I have had worse connects with some players who live closer, but that could be a funtion of Hardware, Service provder, or their DSL/Cable preformance. I myslef buy the best connection type from ATT, so I have the best DSL speeds available for the SD area residentiall market.
Anyway, I am rambling, the reason for my posting is, for fun I hopped on XBL last night and played a about 5 people… what a reality check… no where near as good as NFBA (on the average).
Now that I am used to NFBA, I can totally see the difference. Don’t get me wrong, I still get a couple fo good conections on XBL, but I have a much higher % to get a better connection on NFBA p2p.
It seems as though I have a 80%+ chance of getting a good playable (enough) connection on NFBA, and about 30+ chance of getting a good/playable connection on XBL.
In the US nothing beats arcade/console/game center (denki…LOL… ), but I am very happy with NFBA as an net play alternaitive. Unless you live next to an acracde or have lots of friends who play (SF) around, you will not find a better alternative.
…And as always a HUGE shout out to DJFRIJOLES for all the help!
