SSX 2012

Pre-ordered!

You guys using classic controls with the DPAD etc, or the new ones?

I guess I was the first to pick it up. Been playing since I got back…pretty amazing. The sense of speed and the sense of height that you’re dropping is fantastic. Also…maybe the controls could be a little bit tighter (or LESS tight)…but this game is HARD. Some parts, especially the “survive it” ones are extremely hard. But, it’s 6am and I’m just heading off to sleep so yea…it’s addictive as hell lol

I picked it up for the 360. Good game, but fuck Antartica.

Yeah I just got it yesterday, too. Played for a few hours. Controls are super tight (I pretty much do a 90° turn with the slightest touch of the right stick) and that’s going to take some time getting used to. I haven’t dabbled in the multi-player yet, but will do tonight.

And yeah, I’ve heard Antartica is super hard with all the bottomless chasms strewn all over the place. This game is going to take some time to get good at, but it’s fucking fun!

I’m still tearing up the demo as I am a broke ass college student. But once the price drops a little bit, I’m all over this game.
Rider Net is fucking brilliant. Hang up a high score, that ghost goes to everybody on your friends list, get at me. That’s arcade style gameplay done right.

The game is so much fun. I was playing it all night after I got it yesterday. I miss the free roam aspect of being on a mountain like in SSX3, but the gameplay is really tight. It’s like Tricky 2, only with more realistic looking courses.

I love the gear attachments. Wingsuiting is my shit. And it has a really tight soundtrack, on top of which you can customize both it and assign albums or playlists from your HD. I wish fighting games would implement that feature!

I still remember the first SSX Tricky…I still play it to this day. We get about 5 friends to come over, and we all sit there and pass one PS2 paddle and see who can pull out the craziest Garibaldi run. As far as the new one goes,…I dunno if it will have the same effect on me. I hope so though,…

The problem with Antarctica is not the bottomless pits, but the Deadly Descent’s “Cold” mechanic. It is the only Deadly Descent that I have had to try more than once to complete (I’ve completed 8 of the 9); I actually had to try a TON of times, and even then…I think it was luck.

Though, for people who haven’t done Antarctica yet, someone posted a vid on how to beat it with the Wing Suit.

For some reason I had way more trouble with ice and dark. Also, the last mountain is a bitch. Pulse goggles = useless.

Ice is fuckin me up so hard. I keep sling shotting my ass of the side of the mountain and into a chasm.

The last SSX I played was the one with the option to use skis. IDK, I thought it was alright. I’ll have to pick up this one once the price drops.

I finished Ice and Dark on my first descent. The trick to doing MOST of the DD’s are:

  1. Go SLOW. I constantly tap backward in order to slow my character down.
  2. Don’t jump unless you absolutely have to. No tricks either.
  3. If you see a rail, then grind it. It’s like auto-pilot for a small section of the track.

On Ice specifically, you can grind most of the edges on the curvy icy parts.

Hit me up!

Broke down and bought it today. That lasted long.

wtf how are you dudes getting 2 minutes on that track in the demo? The game isn’t out here yet so I just grinding it out until it drops. I got 2:05 and wanna shave off those seconds.

When you say, “last mountain” do you mean the 9th Deadly Descent in New Zealand or have you made it to the actual last mountain yet?

DEATH ZONE

Yea…Death Zone…grrr but yea I finally beat it. Unlocks Griff. But really, who cares about World Tour…glorified 6 hour practice mode. Now the real shit begins. I’m tearing up Explore and GE. I like the persistent almost, MMO-ish feel to the online.

Also I JUST noticed you can have a custom soundtrack. The soundtrack in place fits, but I will take this opportunity to add some personal flavor, as I have a feeling I will be playing this game for a long time. Best game purchase I’ve made in months.

Just picked this up today. Thought I’d be using the classic control scheme but I actually do find the new “standard” control scheme pretty intuitive.

got this on release day and havent really played it as much as i thought i would do. got the first 3 mountains done in about my first hour and was wondering why it was going by so quickly until i saw the option that allows play on all mountains.

i dunno, i kinda miss the fact there are no kinda championships or whatever to do. its been a while since i played ssx3 but i also miss the free roaming aspect of it as well as actually being able to balance properly on the rails. just having your boarder automatically stick to everything nearby kinda takes away the satisfaction and challenge of it. the trick it courses you can basically just jump everywhere and go crazy without any real thought and as long as you keep putting in manuals between jumps you should be good.

also ditto on the control scheme thing. i quite like the new one too although i use the buttons rather than the stick. cant see that ill go back to classic controls now.

With ME3 coming out next week (as well as Sims expansion for my gf) I just won’t be able to get this as soon as I’d like. It’s high on my list and $40 is my pounce price point (same goes to Armored Core V).
