SSFIV AE PC: config graphics to match arcade and console ports

Seems like no matter how I configure my graphics, my links with Gen are having different timing on PC version than I usually experience on my x360 version. How do I configure my PC ssfiv client to have arcade or at least PS3-perfect timing? I’m assuming v-sync on with fixed framerate, emirite?

Fixed framerate is the big one. Try it with V-sync off; V-sync introduces some latency and that might be what’s throwing you off. Aside from that, do keep in mind that you are on different hardware so there is bound to be some timing variance, whether quicker or slower, from the platform you are used to.

yup vsync off helped a lot (left framerate at ‘fixed’). Still feels faster than console but I’m slowly adjusting. Any way to eliminate the screen tearing with vsync off?

buy a monitor with a higher refresh rate

coolio It’s about time I get a new one any way.

Thanks for the help fellas

The PS3 version actually has more input lag than the 360 version.

The discrepancy is usually due to the fact that the games initially built on DirectX need OpenGL wrappers to run on the PS3, which means additional computations during the rendering process.

Technologically, the PC version is the closest to the arcade experience, because the actual arcade machine (Taito Type X2) runs on PC hardware with Windows XP Embedded, is paired with a standard 60hz LCD monitor, and has some sort of vsync enabled. Whatever input lag that is introduced from enabling vsync on a beefy gaming PC is going to be negligible since all platforms these days enforce a maximum frame rate for 3D games, including arcade machines.

I guess you could potentially get a monitor with a higher refresh rate than 60hz and trim your input lag down to lower than the actual arcades, but then that’d be pointless if you actually plan to compete with people that are used to the arcades and consoles. The whole vsync vs. input lag argument only matters if you have poor hardware, or if you’re running a game through an emulator and are thus unable to recreate the precise original hardware for the game.

Download D3Doverrider. It’s a part of the Rivatuner package you can get from www.guru3d.com. Run it and have it set to:
1.) Start with Windows
2.) Medium Detection
3.)Vsynch and triplebuffering on
3.) Play a sound whenever it activates
4.) Enjoy your games without screen tearing!
Be sure to turn the vsynch option in any DX3D game to OFF in the game options! And if you’re play AEPC online, turn Triple Buffering off too!

EDIT: Had wrong site! Whoops!

you sir, kick a lot of ass. thanks for that.

i have actually found it on PC you have to be a little more precise in timing than on XBOX / PS3 which seem to be somewhat forgiving.
i am playing on a system with 2xGTX295 in SLI, but SLI doesn’t do sh*t, but one GTX295 handles well and gave me a great score in benchmark with everything tweaked out.

This should be stickied as it makes the input lag exactly arcade regardless if you have an Nvidia or ATI gpu. Triple buffering MUST be enabled folks.

this is not really related to perfect arcade experience, but does anyone know how to change AE on PC edition to windowed full-screen? (like you can in Starcraft 2 and other blizzard games, I think I saw marn had it like that on his stream. By the way thanks for that info Politank.

hate to revive an old thread, but i’m a bit confused about d3doverrider. googling around i’ve found conflicting reports as to whether it eliminates input lag or adds to it. any info on this would be massively appreciated. also, why should i turn off tripple buffering when playing online?

Glad someone understands Vsync doesnt cause any amount of detectable lag.
