why do c.mp, st.hp instead of c.mp, c.hp?

Heres the frame data showing ryu’s mp dp has 5 frames of invincibility (just to end the argument):

Well, In one of my previous posts with a little number crunching they are exactly the same except for the 1 frame link of c. mp, st. hp you gain 10 damage and no stun, so most people won’t go for it.

While if you are in a punish scenario going for a 1f link SPS, cr. HP is optimal, as it does more damage.

Though because of the faster startup of cr. mp 4 frames compared to 17 on SPS, there are some situations where punishing with a cr. mp starting combo would be necessary, most people still wouldn’t risk a 1f link for only 10 damage.

Am I like the only Ryu player that uses s.hp for anti-airs? I swear I never see anyone else doing it.

I do it, it just depends if i was ready and had the correct spacing for a srk, otherwise I very often use normals such as far HP cl.HP far HK and cr.HP depending on spacing. normals feel much more natural to use as AA for me, and I can react much faster than when i use srk (unless i was ready for it ofc). Dunno why

tbh i don’t like the change to the HP srk.
I think i will still be using MP as AA since it will have more invincibility frames anyway, and even tho we can use HP srk to do 10 more dmg in non-FADC combos, i think the fuss and confusion of having to relearn combos and differentiate the strenght of the srk between fadc and non fadc combos is not worth 10 more occasional dmg.

Something funny now with Ryu you will have to hit mp 5 times in a row for c.mp, c.hp xx mp srk, fadc, ultra

Yeah, I think that is a very cool buff, and if you look at the top Ryus all of them have a great fireball game.

That said, I have a piss poor fireball game, and everytime I throw one I get blown up. So, I’m not sure how much this buff will directly enhance my gameplay, just got to keep learning, I guess.

One of THE biggest buffs of anyone, that is going to add up over a round very nicely. People will fear it more as well. Plus it helps him vs all other fireballers.

I am loving the fireball damage buff, the srk one I’m iffy about

nem0 brought up a good point earlier, since you can no longer FADC hp srk, some combos into ultra will no longer work,
for instance cr.mp, cr.hp xx lp srk doesn’t connect on all characters, so if you plan on using ultra you will just have to do st. hp xx lp srk FADC ultra instead, so we actually lose some damage on ultra combo punishes

of course all of this is alleviated my learning the sps, cr. hp 1 frame link, maybe us ryu players will just have to get around to getting that down consistently now

nope.I use it way more than I use s.HK honestly.

You could always use sps, cl. mk x jab SRK, it’s a 2f link.
