thats why I said “good Ryus”. I know why mediocre Ryus would rather to s.HP into DP instead of using the SP, I dont know why good Ryus would do that, theres no point on choosing s.HP over SP for punishment unless the opponent is about to die.

There is a point is 30 more damage really worth the effort if you risk losing the match failing one combo, anyways that’s how I perceive it. Do whatever suits you, but I personally think sps should do more damage than st.hp not equal damage or less.
Anyone that isnt nailing his combos regularly isnt good enough.
Take notice that im considering that theres no imput delay involved. Lots of people do prefer to use the easier combo in a tournament because the station hes playing is with a different imput delay from the one he’s used to, and theres no time to get used to it. Its a wise decision. Obviously the producers cant consider the lag factor when balancing the game.
I doubt Laugh woulnt be going for the maximum dammage combo with Sps if given the chance. His execution seem pretty solid.
There is a lot of reputable Ryu that seem to have doubt on their execution on the sps.chp link , ex Valle, not sure about Air ryu ( seen decline it)
I think I have seen a strong Japanese Ryu after a Focus crumple go for c.mp, c.hp xx srk instead of Sps, c.hp xx srk.
Dammage wise its an intermediate between full Sps and regular Sps.
Personnaly I always go for the sps, c.hp xx srk or sps, c.hp xx srk fadc , ultra. I may miss it sometimes but its a good habit to have
There maybe more changes to Ryu as there were some announced changes that were recently found to yun, yang, and hakan. Maybe someone here can translate.
Just says that no matter what if you hit a counter hit ex fireball you can follow up with a attack now. There goes the idea of maybe just the counter hit towards shin shoryuken was changed period. Oh well… I guess stuff like ex fireball counter hit, hurricane kick if its fast enough should hit that sorta thing… Oh well other wise nothing intresting…

c.MK properties are long gone i think but the nerf wasnt that bad…someone beat me to what air said but yeah im glad the CH EX Fireball isnt just a useless U2 buff…im hoping we can get a sweep after it for safe jumps galore. If so this is me
POOR ryu, he’s such a battler with his moveset, so technical and difficult to pull off as well, arh I cant handle it!
Alex Valle and Laugh: mediocre Ryus.
Solar Plexus is one of the hardest links in the game, it’s irregular and 1-frame, there are plenty of good players who would rather take an easy punish at the cost a jab’s worth of damage than risk a match on a link that every single Ryu player occasionally screws up. If you fail to connect Solar Plexus into crouching hard punch into DP, you’re eating probably ten times the amount of damage you gave up. There’s a lot more to the game than your ability to drill a goofy link in training mode, particularly if you play multiple characters or multiple games.

Ryu starts at 9:40. It looks like he can do 2 different tatsu’s. One that travels across the screen like the old one and the other which is like AE.
It seems that it depends on when you input in the air.

Yes. I had to try it after watching that clip and it works.
Ryu can do cr. mp to cr. mp to st. far mp xx, is a very good combo, but Im not sure if works in all the cast
That’s easily one of the most powerful normal linking combos in the game!
AE Upper Ryu looks to be a Ryu I think is a bit improved, due to his air tatsu that can be used offensive again, but he will still require work to be used effectively since the developers decided to keep him the same, except for CH EX.FB to U2, which is interesting, looking at the fact that U2 needs to be useful, as if it was. Now does that mean his Matchups will change? Maybe, but for the most part, not really, even with the Air Tatsu restored, Ryu will struggle abit against Grapplers, Zangief especially since he managed to obtain EVEN MORE BUFFS, and people will need to get his footwork down to utilise his CR.MK, its not too bad a nerf that it cripples Ryu’s game so much.
That said though, I think people will need to play Ryu a bit more offensively. While Zoning is his main strategy, his changes and character prefences in AE pushes him to actually utilise his tools.
