SSF4AE Version 2012 Changes . Ryu Ed

I just tried it between super and ae. There’s definitely a slower recovery from it in this version.

EDIT: As far as tiers, ryu is still mid tier.

As quoted by air, “yeh, hitbox is back to ssf4. ya…game play slower by a bit…i am playing in training mode n it feels different”. The hitbox for CMK is apparently back to ssf4. Is it time to rejoice? : p

I played at my local get together last night, first time playing 2012 offline, and his low forward is seriously amazing now
It really feels like it reaches farther now, I didn’t know two active frames would make this much difference, but wow, I forgot how godlike this move was in super

And I definitely don’t think Ryu is mid-tier anymore, especially since he got buffs to his 3 main tools
He definitely feels high tier to me

Played a little last night. His fierce dp is the biggest change for me. You can use ot as an anti air. If you are not confident then use mp version but Fierce works very well. Just time it late. Its really nive to see a chunk of life being taken away from one jump in. So, if you are serious about using a gfto move then use Hp version. It doesnt trade if you do it deep.

Of all the times for my arcade stick to break :frowning:

I wanted to test my Ryu online a bit and see how it went. Being able to sweep after a counter hit EX fireball sounds too good.

I agree 100% this new DP for anti-air feel really awesome. It really dosent trade also. Opponent cant repeateadly take guess
and jump on you. Now their risk- reward ratio is less good. 160 damage really hurt !

I am still a little shaky with my Ryu with all the new FADC thing and I am often overthinking it but hopefully new habit
will be create.

Yeah I still try to punish with fierce dp FADC ultra, I gotta get out of that habit

Agreed on the invincibility of hp dp as well, I’m using the hell out of it, its not too hard to hit it deep

His air tatsu can travel similar to Kens Kara EX tatsu. So when your opponent throws a projectile you can tatsu across the screen diagonally and knock them down.

Fireballs are the same speed as AE.

Sorry for the shitty video but my interface placement on PC and Xbox are set up differently.

haven’t been able to hit the lab yet but i got in a couple games at a bro’s house yesterday. he really feels like a hybrid of his vanilla, super, and ae iterations. love having his vanilla fierce shoryu back (minus the fadc-ability). hitting it deep is really invigorating. each of his shoryus have become a lot more unique and situational. i like that trade shoryu to ultra is back (or has been back) but i don’t remember which strength i’d need to use. i wasn’t able to land any counterhit ex hadoukens but connecting a full ultra, sweep, or fierce shoryu sounds too good to be true. all in all, he feels a couple notches below where he was in super, and a couple notches above where he was in ae. i’m definitely missing his whip tatsu though. i’d trade his fierce shoryu damage, fierce shoryu invuln, trade shoryu to ultra, shoryu jugglability, counterhit ex hadouken jugglability, far standing strong cancellability, frame advantage on close roundhouse, hadouken damage, hadouken travel speed, and solar plexus damage to have his vanilla tatsu back in a heartbeat. i don’t think daigo would even consider ryu for tournament play until whip tatsu comes back into the picture.

i wrote momochi off as insane the moment i read him say ryu was viable in ae, as if there was anyone other than daigo and fuudo (maybe valle, choi, and air) consistently placing well with even vanilla ryu.

Ryu is actually better than his Super version. His CMK has gotten it’s hitbox back so…
Free buffs for him all around :stuck_out_tongue:
Daigo has already gone back to Ryu and has been clobbering people like Kazunoko’s seth with him.

oh yea? glad to hear the beast is reppin ryu again. not sure what you want me to glean from the ryu:seth matchup in 2012, is it dramatically different from what it was in the other iterations? from my point of view, success with ryu means playing solidly as he’s built that way. he doesn’t have the ability to mindlessly rush down, so you have to pick your battles carefully. which means balancing offense with d. losing his whip tatsu makes his bad matchups worse and makes playing d that much more of a non-option because the corner is that much more of a threat.

again, these are just my two cents. obviously if top players have reached a consensus regarding ryu’s tier placement then i’m missing something.

yeah thats the downside of it. Damage is shit with mp dp and jab dp launches lower than the rest. Costed me a lot of games

I didn’t know u can trip after ex fireball. But I still wonder how useful it is…

EDIT: Someone should play around with ch ex fireball. U1 fully hits, U2 full animation, CR HK.

lol corner only, ch ex fb, mp srk fadc ultra 1. Lmao why does this work?

yeah that ch ex fb thing is a little bit annoying. at most ranges where it would hit CH, you can’t really follow up and in ranges where you can follow up are ranges where you’d combo into it. stupid capcom. :frowning:

i was really hoping for a much better U2 as i’m sick of U1 but it’s still just as shitty as before. :frowning:

ex tatsu also retained weird hitboxes where people can go in and out of it.

air tatsus are definitely a plus, but ryu seems good as usual. don’t know about top tier just yet but considering so many buffs in a field of nerfs (fei/yun/yang especially) seems like he’ll be pretty high in the tiers.

i am definitely noticing a ton more ryus than before when playing online. people still mash dp though -_-

I don’t see how there is a problem with mashing dragon punch…

i’ve only seen the ex tatsu thing happen on gouken when doing far rh cr fierce ex tatsu.

Although he had a tatsu buff its still not the same as Super and he has a hard time escaping the corner. At that point you pretty much have to wait for your opponent to make a mistake. If you’re getting frame trapped in the corner you’re kind of screwed

cr.mp, cl.mk XX EX Fireball, U1
cr.lp, cl.mk XX EX Fireball, U1
Solar Plexus, cl.mk XX EX Fireball, U1

All three of these combos are practical mid-screen now. It’s much, much easier to connect the ultra after the EX fireball now. I tested this fully against all characters. I know that it doesn’t work against Ibuki, Akuma, Yun, and Yang. The cr.lp version is the only version that works on Sagat. I forget if it doesn’t work against anyone else, but I seem to remember it was difficult against Guile as well.

It doesn’t work on Ken either

I’m pretty sure that if I remember the top row correctly, Ibuki and Akuma were the only ones it didn’t work on. My Xbox is packed up for the trip home for the Holidays so I can’t check now.

EDIT: I’ll post a comprehensive list after my travels tomorrow evening.
