SSF4AE PC Restore missing lighting effects!

ABOUT THE FAULT YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE YOU HAVE

The PC version has been found to be missing lighting effects.
Yes, nearly 2 months and almost no-one noticed that in the PC version they were missing, myself included.

See below image…

As can be clearly seen, in the PC version the fireballs do not create any lighting effects on Ryu’s body.

Vanilla SF4 did not have this issue, however Capcom made a mistake porting SSF4AE to PC and missed some files the game needs.

The issue is not just with Ryu either, All lighting effects for all characters have this issue and the download at the bottom of this post fixes the issue.

Here, if you look carefully you can see the light reflecting off Juri’s pants as well as Ken’s legs in particular

This video does a fantastic job of showcasing the issue as well.

REASON FOR THE FAULT!

It seems that the game is looking for the .emz extension for the lighting effects when it should be using the .emb files?

HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE!

The good news is you can fix this yourself without waiting for an official patch from CAPCOM!

To do this you have 2 choices.

Option 1
Download the files + the one I found as well from here or here.
Install instructions are contained in the included ReadMe.

Option 2

All the characters that have energy or projectile based attacks have there own .light.emb file you need to copy/paste/rename that affects the reflections of not only there own moves but reflections on themselves as well!

Here is an example in the picture using Ken

The .light.emb files are located at…

install directory/resource/battle/chara/AGL/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/BLK/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/BLR/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/BOS/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/CHB/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/CNL/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/DAN/

install directory/resource/battle/chara/SGT/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/SKR/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/VEG/
install directory/resource/battle/chara/ZGF/

also there is…

install directory/dlc/03_character_free\battle\chara/GKX/
install directory/dlc/03_character_free\battle\chara/RYX/
install directory/dlc/03_character_free\battle\chara/YAN/
install directory/dlc/03_character_free\battle\chara/YUN/

and the one I found but don’t know if it does anything

install directory/resource/battle/vfx/

ANOTHER DISCOVERY

I also discovered the file in the image below…
…but I can’t work out if copy/pasting/renaming it fixes anything else as well.
Anybody got any idea?

And most of all…
Ha-Do-Ken

Good find!

I can’t take credit for finding this fix, I am just spreading it around

Excellent find wow surprised no one noticed this till now. Are these just the vanilla files copied over?

No, every character has its own lighting file and all Super and AE exclusive characters have there fixes as well

I am not sure how it was done or by who exactly, but when I got the files and noticed that SRK doesn’t have them I felt I should share.

hey DarkSamus are you strider over at Capcom Unity?

No, I am DarkSamus on Unity as well.

Oh LOL i tot u were the same one asking on this in Capcom Unity

I gotta test this and compare it to console streams when I get home…can’t believe I’d miss something so obvious as a lighting effect from a thrown hado. Damn.

OP, thanks a goddamn lot for sharing if what you say is true.

Its true, you’ll see

Wow, thanks for spreading this around. I never noticed the missing lighting effects until you mentioned it.

Tested. I freakin’ love you, man! No homo ;D

Thx a lot

Nice catch, thanks for the fix.

BUT THEY TOLD ME THE PC VERSION WAS ARCADE PERFECT, HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE

No problem guys.

Hopefully Capcom will do an official fix for this at some point.

Wow, thanks for the heads up! Also, OP, do you know if this issue has been brought over to Capcom Unity so they are able to officially address this with an update or something?

Yeah, the issue has been posted in its own thread there.

good show :3p:

Stuff like this just gets left out sometimes. Blanka’s Alt3 costume (the crazy one) doesn’t have a normal map on the 360 version (or at least it didn’t when the costume was originally released; they may have fixed it by now), and Vega’s mask was bugged forever on vanilla until sensibeat fixed it…

Thanks for sharing this DarkSamus. If anybody comes across more stuff like this, let me know so I can add it to the wiki. Btw, could you tell me who the originator is so I can credit them properly?

No problem, I would have felt like a huge ass keeping this to myself!
