“Slap Chop- get your Pimp Hand on.”

The Nature Boy or Stylin’ and Profilin’

I got this, I got this. A few months ago I made a Zangief motivational poster and stuck it on my wall at work (I can’t believe my boss lets me keep it). And it’s caption would be perfect for this.

Here’s a variation of it with Zangief actually using st.mp.

Get it? Get it? Keep it STRONG?! “Strong” as in MP? Ya know, LP = jab, HP = fierce, and MP = STRONG? Oh man, I’m so cool.

So yeah, anyway, my pitch is…

“The Pimp Hand: Keep it…STRONG”

OOh, The Nature Boy is gooood.

I got a suggestion for next week’s challenge. Since we all know how gdlk st.MP is, it’ll be challenging but maybe a little boring to beat somebody using it by itself cause, hell, most of us have probably done it before, or close to it. Thing is, Gief’s other strong attacks are a little more obscure to players, I think. cr.MP, j.MP, MP SPD and MP Green Hand are rarely used.

So what if we changed the challenge to include ALL of Gief’s strong attacks. That means nothing other than st.MP, cr.MP, j.MP, MP SPD and MP Green Hand can be used. This’ll keep the original challenge intact because st.MP is gonna be the majority of our offense, but at the same time we can maybe learn how to use cr.MP as a compotent AA and possibly find a use for MP SPD and MP Green Hand (I rarely use MP SPD and never use MP Green Hand).

What yall think?

What do you guys think about Gief’s standing SK? It’s strangely awesome, and I feel like I stuff more ground stuff with it than standing SP. I’ve been trying to keep people corner locked using some normals, and even crouching SP ain’t bad, it hits a weird upwards angle that can stop neutral jumpers who think you’re gonna SPD.

This is a good idea. I used to play a lot like WorstGief and BP Amoco until I put myself in Ranked Matches everyday, forcing myself to use nothing but normals. This really improved my footsies and defensive games, and like you mentioned, it helped me find uses for normals that are more obscure to the common Zangief player. When I started this, I was only winning 1 out of every 5 matches, and eventually, this ratio changed to 1 out of every 2 matches. Allow yourself to use Lariat and Green Hand to avoid projectiles and to travel, but this should be your limit for those moves.

For MP Green Hand, a couple of good reasons I could think of are (1) when you want to save meter for the next round, finish your combo with MP hand instead of EX hand, and (2) use MP hand when you know you will get you the dizzy, though this involves a bit of number crunching.

It’s hard to get used to normals-only matches at first, but I can assure you that it really does pay off. Practice your normals combos, cornering your opponent, keeping your opponent grounded, maneuvering with low forward, and using standing forward in frame traps. Playing with this handicap will surely improve these fundamental aspects of your game.

I have an idea for next weeks challenge go to a local tournament or casual event.

I would but the players in my area won’t let me jump around, using SPD and Lariat on reaction to everything. I really don’t like that !

bp amoco you are my favorite gief poster

I would love to, but I have absolutely no scene around me. Plus the hours I work would probably prohibit it anyway. So for me it’s playing online and with a few friends/family.

^^ Same here. And since i’ll be moving in a week or 2. Impawsibul!

GREAT IDEA… about only using medium everything… but heres the thing, for practicality, cr.mk is only good for characters that have a good, st.hk that gief needs to duck under and isn’t used at all besides that at high levels. Mp green hand, is good but it can only be combo into from a cl.stmp/mk, also it’s so bad on block and hit, but it can be used as a chip item. st.mk,st.mp,j.mp, nj.mp and mk are weird looking lol, but we can take into consideration, how to use properly used those normals. Mp spd, is so weird, it’s either a hit or a miss lol, i guess that’s why most gief’s don’t use, because you don’t do good damage and it puts you back further then if you had use lp, spd. Ok, so how about the challenge for next week but nothing but mediums’s but no special attacks, ie spd, lariat, green hand, just normals.

Also, i was thinking of a secondary challenge that would work on giefs that like to jump. How about, a challenge that prevents you from jumping period or should there be a time limit… fuck it… defeat your opponent without jumping. This sounds cool and very practical.

@hoblino and Guruprimo
Damn those are some cool ass names… let’s have a vote …1 for hoblino and 2 for guruprimo for the title of the next challenge, if another gief doesn’t step up with a title for the challenge…
my vote first is for hoblino

bp amoco and all the other giefs … come on man jump on the wagon let’s get this shit moving guy/girls … for a matter of fact… is there any female gief players on srk… come out the closet we won’t hurt you. or Does anyone know any decent female gief player at all lol

I’d go with “The Nature Boy Challenge”

Wooooooo!!!

That first video where justin wong fights vangief at evo is amazing, the footsies are the best i’ve ever seen in this game, it’s no wonder these guys are in contention for the world championship! i could watch these vids for days and keep noticing and learning new tricks, thanks for the thread!

I vote for “The Nature Boy Challenge- Whooooooo!”
