Mak has plenty of ways to bait someone into thinking she’s going to fadc a fireball, hell with her backdash she could force them to come at her before she gets full meter and ends the game with a grab-ultra
I’m pretty sure people aren’t going to be content full screen fbing her when she has such a great tool to take advantage of, not to mention if her U2 punishes fbs, and her ex meter build is also pretty safe looking(tk tsurugis and whiffed karas)
the way tsurugi is looking now as a tool is very good, it brings a large amount of pressure to the table and can be used as a jump buffer to bait AAs, but this is all theory fighter, and people should really only look at what we’ve been given with a small window
Well, if you’re really worried about getting jabbed or DP’ed out of a focus dash… I can say “it should be ok” but if you don’t want to take my word for it you can sort of test the concept for yourself.
Go to Training mode and pick Abel against Sagat. Have Sagat throw a qcf + LP Tiger Shot, then have Sagat mash standing jab to come out as soon as he recovers. Then practice focus dashing through the Tiger Shot with Abel. You will see for yourself that there is no range where Sagat can punish you this way for a perfectly timed focus dash, in fact you’ve got a little spare time to work with.
Try the same thing with Ryu and have him walk backwards a little, throw a LP fireball, then his Super fireball as soon as he recovers. His super comes out in 3 frames. Focus dash the fireball with exact timing and block immediately. This will show you the ranges at which Abel could get punished by a DP for focus dashing if he had infinite dash range. You’ll see that Abel can safely dash from just about exactly half screen range. If Ryu is in the corner, then Abel’s front foot can be standing on the second line from Ryu on the training stage. Any further than that and you won’t be able to block the super.
Makoto’s dash in 3rd Strike was 11 frames, faster than Abel’s 16, which is still fast for SF4. With how speedy hers looks in the videos, there is a decent chance it’s still faster. If that’s the case, then her safe focus dashing range is further than Abel’s.
Abel’s dash doesn’t go as far as Makoto’s, so it’s possible that there may be some unsafe ranges for her, depending on just how fast her dash is. But at least this should show you that as long as you don’t dash from further than half screen, they will not be able to punish you. And the new Tsurugi is exactly the tool that can allow you to get to that range without trouble.
Also these are the slowest projectiles for those characters. The slower the projectile, and the faster the recovery, the harder it is to focus dash safely. So of course, this post does not apply to Guile because he will be able to recover quickly enough to punish most dashes. But you wouldn’t be doing that anyway against him. (Ex Spiral arrow is pretty bad against him too.) The best strategy there should be to use Tsurugi to get over the projectile, or just block it since he needs to charge to throw another, and use the intervening time between booms to advance your position. That’s the same deal as for a dive kick character except that Makoto has more ways to break Guile’s defense.
As far as the gief matchup is concerned a few things make make it more even. First is if tsurugi can beat a larriet if timed correctly, also if she has any other type of air normal that can beat a larriet. The worst thing about gief is that there is no way to jump in on him so he can zone you for free if you don’t have a projectile. If tk tsurugi can beat larriet you will be able top provide some good pressure and land some things that you shouldn’t be able to. Also can her st. forward zone gief like bison and chun can. If so, with that move being special cancelable this will do a lot to even up the match. Lastly can her backdash beat an OS sweep? That would solve a lot of her wakeup problem against gief. If all of the above goes in Makotos favor it could be an even or only slight disadvantage matchup.
Also lol @ calling people stupid and basing your counter arguments on “ifs” and assumptions. That’s stupid.
As fa as what J. Wong does and doesn’t know about Karakusa follow ups after Hayate I’m far more inclined to believe he’s right than wrong. Not knowing about her other target combo is no surprise because it’s new to SF4. Knowing that one version of a command grab may have more range than another is not something unique to Makoto. That’s a Street Fighter mechanic. Hopefully she will be able to follow it up with one, but if not that makes her a lot less scary.
Supposedly Justin only had a short time with the game before he was due to make those videoes. At least according to his facebook page it was around 20 minutes. There’s really no telling what he might have missed. I still maintain HK Tsurugi will knock down.
What would also be good to find out is if either ultra can only partially hit, or if they’re all-or-nothing attacks. If the latter, it looks like you could potentially juggle into either. They both go into cinematics on hit #1.
in all fairness so did dudley’s or so people originally thought, but it turned out to be much more specific, might be the same with mak(I’m just hoping Abare is the one that fully connects on hit #1, in which case punishing jumps with abare is going to be hilarious)
If you can do a hit after abare tosnami like i keep hearing people say she can, i wonder if it will be worth doing ultra 2 and before hitting them with Hayate or fukiage or whatever it is you juggle them with activating super for more damage and also they are on the ground and you have about 8 seconds of super still.
He knows her BnB, he knew the mix-up was significant enough to bring up specifically, I’m certain he would of gone through all the possible combinations given it wouldn’t take a minute to check if it was still on. Also as I said before, a week ago on the UK 360 dash show a statement from Capcom PR specifically mentioned Makoto didn’t have the mix-up.
By all means play ignorant and base your opinion on your hopes and dreams rather than the truth with have, or hope it will be added in a new build. But as it stands Makoto isn’t going to be anything like she was in 3S. Not that she’s going to be bad, just really different; looks like she’s going to be relying a lot on Tsurugu to get in close now.
So what are you saying? It sounds like you’re saying Makoto definitely doesn’t have her mix-up because justin says she doesn’t, but you’re also saying she definitely does have it because UK360 dash (???) says she does. Which is it?
