Attacks that hit infront and directly above simultaneously are pretty effective at stuffing pogo mixups, things like guile cl.st.hp, cl.st.hk, and Feilong cl.st.hp etc. You can’t always react easily to the pogo, it’s more of a preemptive attack to halt potential mixups.
Regular Air Raid is +3 on block while EX Air Raid is -3 on block. You may be confusing it with EX Delta Attack (PPP flip EX followup) which is -10 on block.
EX Air Raid is so fast that it’s kinda hard to interrupt on reaction or even if you anticipate it it’s risky because of the timing. If you think it’s coming I’d just get ready to block it but maybe jumping instant-normals can be effective (haven’t tried).
If you know that Rolento is going to do an Air Raid, then neutral Jump and come down with a hard punch. Air Raid will whiff which will leave Rolennto out in the open.
Rolento: in the match up, it is very important to keep a down charge. you can do a reactionary flash kick as soon as he goes into the air for the overhead to beat it clean. on his forward roll, it is not entirely safe to flash kick every roll because a good player will just bait it. instead use Cr mp and buffer into flash kick if the Cr mp lands. Jump back air throw works wonders vs his pogo.
Elena: i feel this match up requires you to effectively whiff punish and bait reversals when mounting an offense. for example from full screen if you throw a boom she can slide, but you can fake a boom and sweep to whiff punish. the only other option she has is the rhino kick which is very punishable on block. St fierce is a great frametrap tool against Elena so use it when you got a knock down and she has no meter. It is fine if she focus your booms, be patient. Definitely use that inscreased hitbox on Guile’s Cr MK in the tootsie game.
Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with Poison? The only time I feel like I win is when I straight up outplay them. Her meter building is insane and she pretty much wins every trade that happens. Also she can randomly do that ex neckbreaker thing which is super scary for Guile but pretty much safe for her.
You can walk up throw poison’s wake up. It beats her dp. A lot of poison players follow up with throw after you block the hurricanrana thing. I either backdash fierce or crouch tech.
You can air throw decapre when she’s invisible. If she does ball ultra meaty on you, you can wake up throw her to avoid. I turtle the shit out of this match up. You can flash kick most of her shit and crouch mk her walk in. If she tries to jump the crmk it recovers quick enough to ex flash her. I cross her up if I get the chance. It seems though that her flash punch auto corrects if she delays wake up like Guile’s.
Elena beats the air throw with roundhouse so I rarely try. I am afraid to delay stand when she has healing. Many times she has activated u2 as I wake up lp boom. I can dash up sweep for 2 hits. If you’re close enough you can dash u2 or knee u2 the heal (which is a ridiculous ultra). Fierce whiffs a lot. Use step kick more. The timing on fking her slide is weird. You have to delay it a bit. She is Guile’s new fuerte.
Everyone knows to ultra hugo’s ex lariat, right? I back throw him if he’s close to cornering me. He blows up the upside down kick and can u1 it on start up. Gotta play this lame and zone. Guile wins this almost free. Can’t backhand his jump fierce just like gief. You can stand mk it.
I kind of agree. it is an uphill battle for him. But you should look at RB Hugo he is an amazing player and almost took at Daigo’s Evil Ryu, though Daigo just gayed out that match
Man… the Elena matchup feels hopeless. Can’t focus, can’t boom, can’t hold down-back, s.hp whiffs over her, UDK whiffs over her… I’m at a loss. I really have no idea what Guile is supposed to do in this MU.
I played against one of our best HK players (he bodies me with any character though) and I was incredibly free to his Elena. He commented that Guile can’t really do much in this match because of having to stand block Mallet Smash so it’s pretty tough. One thing that I took away from our matches was that I think part of the equation is grabbing a life lead and running away but absolutely must pay attention to her U2 meter. If you are sitting on a healthy lead and she is coming up on U2 then must be careful with throwing booms that she can freely absorb.
On a side note, I played a FT3 set vs Humanbomb’s Poison and I only managed to take about 30% of his life at most. That match is BRUTAL and he also said it’s pretty hopeless. I would say if you have a decent counter-pick pocket character, don’t pick Guile vs Poison if you can help it.
I’m having a hard time against Yung, Guy and Hakan, How do I counter the constant pressure of yung/guy they are constantly doing the dive kick in the air, my cr.HP whiffs most of the time cause of crossup, does the divekick make the cr.HP whiff? If so, how do I counter it?
With Hakan, i throw booms when I’m far but med/close range he can punish with the slide thing, I manage to poke him out of it with cr.mk but I can’t follow up with damage afterwards, can you follow up with cr.mk into a combo?
Sounds like your spacing is slightly off in the match ups. Don’t worry, I have these problems too…
Yun is just a POS in general, but I can help you with AAs:
Guile’s most effective AA’s for Divekicks in general are jump in roundhouse kick or air throws. But you’re reading game has to be on point.
Your Standing AA options are: st.mk is really good as are backfist and GHK (very situational)
Try and keep Yun just behind backfist range (about 3-4 training room squares apart), always keeping in mind his shoulder charge. Occasionally throw out a boom to keep him on his toes, and walk back and forth outside this range as a bait. He wants to shoulder through your boom to get in and blow you up, so be aware of this and alter the timings of whatever you do throw out.
Hakan loses to down back pretty much. This in turn stops him from sliding and forces him to start jumping, FK beats 99% of whatever button he presses
