I am learning dee jay.
Crouch! Many Guys use that “dreaded” flying ball grab. Stay crouching and FP that thing when it comes in. Also, many Guys love to use the sweep at range. Be smart and bait that move… then counter.
Have to stay out of the corner in this fight. And block the cross-up madness that he can unleash on you. Guy seems to win with shenanigans most of the time. Deal with the shenanigans and you’ll have a much easier time.
Yes! Don’t let it hit you. Guy wants you to FK that elbow. Don’t do that. Better to place yourself so that the elbow misses. If it misses then you have a free throw or sweep. I find that dashing under the elbow is a good idea many times. He misses and gets thrown.
Again, the best defense against that move is to avoid it altogether. It’s not safe!
Shut down the dash with these strategies:
-
Don’t boom when you’re close enough for him to dash / throw.
-
Throw booms followed up by the step kick to catch him when he dashes to avoid chip. Can also back fist… although my preference is step kick.
-
Change your placement regularly to keep Dudley guessing on how best to land the dash.
Remember… Dudley has no real cross up. Most of his shenanigans are countering your foolishness and launching into high damage combos. Once you shut down the dash, Dudley has a much harder time getting in on ya. Sure, he can fly across the screen and punch at you, but that shit ain’t safe for him. Not like the dash.
A Dudley that’s afraid to dash due to it getting stuffed so often by a step kick is much easier to pressure with booms.
I feel Dudley is a dead easy matchup. They always gotta move on us and if you’re just patient and don’t do much and just stick out backfists and stepkicks you’ll be winning this match all day
good advice, so then if I crounch and FP, guy’s grab wont be effective. for some reason I always jump and lose air to air. his range on the grab is insane
Yeah but then you’re opening yourself up to his frametraps.
i’ve played a hell of a lot of matches vs guy recently, using both guile and yun. i do think guile wins this match if you know what you’re doing. but i’m sure all of us have been blown up by guy to the point we question if we really know the matchup well enough.
don’t quote me on this, but i’m pretty sure that a blocked bushin grab is very punishable. edit
it’s not so much that it’s punishable, it’s just a very tight link for guy to pull off. worth mashing something if he hits you with the elbow imo.
i started using ultra 1 vs guy to punish obvious elbow attempts. it’s been working a treat. makes them think twice about using it once you have it stocked. the damage is so good that it definitely scares them for the rest of the set. try to keep meter for super too if possible, because one mistimed slide and then they are fucked. try not to use ultra 1 as a get out of jail card on wakeup though, unless it’s out of total desperation. i had that thing whiff twice on guy’s crossup mk.
like nem says, watch out for those frame traps. if you have to eat a throw here and there then so be it. you’ve just gotta know what you’re doing on wakeup.
another little thing they like to do with a corner knockdown situation (especially if they are quite far away from you when you’re knocked down) is jump forward, land, jump forward straight away, you wake up, but because of the double jump, it’s very hard to tell what move they are going to go for. from my experience, it’s usually a fake crossup and they go for an elbow instead. but yea, this is pretty ambiguous and you won’t always guess right. that’s just part of sf4.
what’s the best normal to anti air guy’s elbow? i remember nem saying cr.mp but i seem to be getting that stuffed quite often. i’ve been getting most of my joy with st.mp and st.mk.
thanks for the info. I guess I’ll put Guy in my list of block and eat a throw, I’ve run into so much shit just like I run vs Adon and Cody.
I remembered someone posted before Guy’s elbow is pretty weak to low attacks, almost like Abel’s j.mk. Was Dieminion if I remember correctly. If Guy elbows right on top of Guile on wakeup, Guile can c.lk into combo. I sometimes walk forward and use target combo/GHK if he elbows out of range. GHK will be outright stuffed if you don’t know how to use it well, but it’s good against elbow if he does it far and about the peak of his jump.
Recently I keep getting this feeling that the more I use Guile in AE, the more I feel that Guile isn’t fun to play in AE cos his zoning game doesn’t really work against majority of the cast now. Something is really wrong when I play Deejay with almost the same playstyle as my Guile and get better results.
Guile should come with crutches now! At least then he could do some damage by whacking the opponent with them.
dunno. i’m starting to have fun with guile again. my concentration and all round game has definitely improved too. i got sloppy with super version for sure. also i don’t get my once a day ‘you only use guile because guile’s o.p’ hate mail anymore…well unless i use yun lol.
don’t get me wrong, it’s still a pretty masochistic choice to main guile in this game. i keep getting beat by balrog and it’s really starting to piss me off. for some reason i fucking hate losing this particular match. i know i’m doing something wrong, but i’m not too sure what it is. i think it’s mainly down to the fact i’m not reacting to stuff quick enough and i forget to mash jab after booms. i lose to the type of balrog’s who just don’t stop throwing out moves. tap followed by overhead followed by another tap into ex upper into cr.hp/throw/headbutt combo type shit. i know i can throw his ex stuff, but i always forget what’s punishable on block in the balrog match. i’m fine when it comes to anti airs though.
I feel you wikum, the type of balrog who keeps coming like bull and you cant reverse at all.
c.mk followed by boom and from range use that backfists, works wonders on any type of shit balrog tries to do in order to close the distance. Ex boom is so important here, so make sure you only throw it to brake his armor bull strikes, if he gets close, then you are playing to his favor, jab, throw, headbutt, BS. etc
update on guy - guy’s bushin grab elbow isnt punishable on block as far as i can tell. sorry but i dont look at frame data.
Here’s my thoughts on AE Guile. This is just my 2 cents. I am not a top tier player. There are a few so I don’t think all hope is lost. Winning with Guile is just tougher in general though.
-Tougher in general because of the damage nerfs. I feel like I have to hit T Hawk 20 times to his 1 spinning grab. Getting your opponent dizzy seems really tough now.
-I like playing against Yun’s. I have a 93% win against them. I think that match-up may favor Guile. Flash kick trades good. low medium kick and sobat are nice. Yang seems more difficult but still feels like Guile is the favor.
-If you haven’t already, switch to Ultra 1 for most of your matches. Ultra 2 blows for most match-ups now. Except Ken/Ryu. I prefer the damage of Ultra 1 where I can launch a comeback if I’m really down.
-Zangief and T. Hawk are still a game of keep away. Zone them out. It will take longer but it’s the same as before.
-Akuma, Oni, Gouken are tough for me. Gouken seems stronger to me than before.
-Dhalsim, El Fuerte, Rufus, Able and Ibuki are still very tough… I would also add in Chun-Li now because of the slow meter build.
-I need to get better at the Upside down kick to strong punch link.
-CR MP, flash kick is still a good punish.
-I generally use EX Flash Kicks for jumpers. It does good damage still.
-Finally, don’t waste your meter. It takes freaking forever to build.
Later.
You probably just aren’t playing good Yuns. Bad Yuns are really easy because he has bad stamina.
Like the Yun that just beat dieminion on the stream a while ago. Damn, one mistake and it is your road to stun land. GJ on all the matches dieminion, enjoyed the one vs Adon a lot.
yun - guile is 6-4 verging on 7-3 to yun in my opinion. i still haven’t played against a very good yun, but he’s my other main, so i’ve got good experience in the match.
like i keep saying, 90% of yun’s online don’t use command grabs, nor do they use yun’s jump in target combo. that’s why you’re probably thinking the match is so easy.
yun racks up huge amounts of stun quickly. guile has 900 stun.
guile’s hitbox means that he’s one of the few characters that can be hit by ridiculous combos like dive kick, cr.mp x3, st.mp, up kicks even at mid-screen.
yun’s low health is what you’ve gotta take advantage of. pick ultra one.
trust me, it’s not guile’s worst match, but it’s up there.
Bad Yuns are fun to score counterhits off of. Then you watch them go into defensive once they see a huge chunk of life fall off.
couple of observations from using yun in training mode. this may be common knowledge to some of you, but i thought i’d share it anyways.
after a you block one of yun’s l.p shoulder strings (for this example lets just say, cr.lk, st.lp, cr.mp, cr.mk, lp shoulder), yun is left in a postion to do the following mix ups:
perfect spacing to go straight for** hk dive kick**
or
lk dive kick (possibly to bait you), straight into mk dive kick (perfect spacing, can’t be punished on block if he dives from this position at the right height, will hit you around ankle height)
or
lk dive kick, which sets up the perfect spacing for** command grab**
ok onto another tip. if yun does the same block string (cr.lk, st.lp, cr.mp, cr.mk, lp shoulder), then tries to trap you with counter hit** st.mp, lp shouder**, this is totally punishable in between the hits of the st.mp and the shoulder.
you can punish with:
flash kick
super
ultra 1 or 2
hk flash kick (trade), ultra 2
lk/mk super, ultra 1 or 2
ultra 2 (trade), lk super (could only get this to work if guile was in the corner, probably works mid screen too though)
final tip. **st.hp **and cr.mp actually beat yun’s attempts to do a counter hit standing mp after lp shoulder. cr.lp, cr.mk and all hk’s lose, cr.lk and st.mk trade. depending on positioning,st.mp either loses or trades.
hope this helps someone.
