Ssf4 getting very choppy/lag

So recently ssf4 has been very choppy for me. Even people with green bars lag. I tested the connection speed on my ps3 and its running at 9+ mbps (10mbps is the max). I just can’t get a good game in without it being very choppy. My ps3 is hard wired and I even tried connecting it directly to my modem but it’s still like that. I never had this problem before. The ports are all forwarded and DMZ is on as well. Anyone know what’s up?

I have had this problem for the past couple of weeks now along with extremely slow sign-ins to PSN when I start my PS3 as well as random disconnects every so often after successfully signed on (not disconnected from internet - just PSN).

After alittle research, I am of the opinion that this is an issue mostly affecting the backwards compatible “fat” PS3 consoles (CECHE01) after upgrading to firmware version 3.30.

Slim console versions, I am told, are not affected.

Nothing PS3 owners can do about this until Sony releases another update as you cannot downgrade to a prior release. Even then, it is a “crapshoot” to see if they even bother to address the issue. Which given their stance and prior history in removing functionality from their products through software updates, I do not have much faith that they will do so.

hm… I’m not too sure if that is it. I tried playing around 2am-5am last night and it was fine. Tried it again in the afternoon today and it was fine as well =/

I actually have two PS3 CECHE01 “fat” consoles in my home. So after borrowing my son’s (which is also configured the same as mine) and noticing that he also had firmware v3.30, I played awhile under his user ID. No problems. Few lag issues. I connected to matches just fine and even played at decent (not great) speeds. No dropped matches or sudden PSN disconnects.

So I took a gamble and decided to do what many do when their computer becomes “frakk’d”. I re-formatted and started clean. And after re-configuring everything once more to my liking, I seem to be able to connect and play just fine. With having all these subsequent PS3 updates coming through over, what was at the time, a crappy DSL wireless connection (have since upgraded to 20Mbps cable), I surmise that issues occurred over time and perhaps files eventually becoming corrupt.

It is just too bad that my PS3 did not allow me to save my data or allow me to back it up to a removable storage drive. I was able to save a few game saves (SSF4 being one of them) though. Kind of nice that all of the "most important stuff’ is stored online via cloud through your PSN account.

So the lesson here, boys and girls, is that you should remember that your console is nothing more than a computer and that the same rules apply. Backup your data at regular intervals and be prepared that as a computer, it contains an operating system that over time, the data will become corrupt.

i haven’t played since Sunday, but i when i did play there was no lag and i own the original 60gb. i don’t know what the reason would be for this, i am on Fios if that matters.

I have been experiencing the same problems lately too. Its really getting on my nerves. I like playing offline more now. I also have a fat 80gb b/c model. I was d/c from PSN twice earlier while playing endless. My Ps3 has been running like a champ the past 3 years until this year I’ve YLOD 3 times in the last 4 or 5 months  I wouldn’t be surprised if the recent updates have something to do with it. I guess I should back up my saves and re-format too.

I am hearing that Sony will be releasing another PS3 update to coincide with product changes and development they wish to unveil at E3. The show is june 16th and 17th, I believe. The PS3 update is slated to roll-out around june 10. One of the biggest changes this time around is supposed to be something along the lines of a complete icon/GUI redesign for the PS3.

Here is to hoping - however perhaps this time around Sony addressed users’ PSN connectivity issues.

First 2 weeks connections were fine. Now almost every match I get a “you have been disconnected from PSN” message even though my friend’s list is still active and I can still see myself logged in in the upper right hand corner of the XMB. Matches I don’t get that error it’s a “Your connection to your opponent has been lost” or things move at 5 frames per second until a darkened screen. :expressionless: I dropped 500PP and 200BP. Don’t know what’s going on.
