SSF4 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (Old)

Block and reversal HP hands is the safest way I guess. You can also stay out of HP’s range and guess-&-outpoke f.HPs with c.MKs, they cannot dodge f.HPs on reaction, but they can if you guess right.

find out the max range of it in training mode, and stand just outside of it.

his hp and f+hp have pretty long recovery frames, so when you see either one, punnish the recovery with either a sweep, or something into hands

dont try to beat it straight up or stuff it. the damage trade isnt in your favor, and it only takes a few of them to stun gen

we both main Fei and Gen thats Cool, @messiah do you have the video of you playing this saikyo guy?

I do. I’m gonna upload them once my Bandwidth cap has reset.

stupid canada internet

OC3 just with QoS cap

Here’s a question. While playing Guy and he does his Flip bullshyte, is there a setup that Guy can do where you can’t dash? I dunno if it’s online or what, but many times they have done a mid screen flip or tick normal into flip and I try to dash forward, and I just stand there. I’ve even mash it sometimes and it looks like I’m forced into blocking.

Anyone have this problem?

you mean the grab? the grab only grabs standing and airborne, doesn’t grab if you’re crouching, so dashing can get you thrown. the Elbow isn’t an overhead either although it’s got a ton of active frames so it’s hard to counterpoke/beat clean.

you should be able to get some sort of dash. you may have been stuck in blockstun from the normal, but you should be able to dash before he lands on you. im gonna guess lag, but it wouldnt be hard to test in training. just have him cancel st.mp into flip

no I just stand there when I go to dash.

ok, if you dash forward, you’re considered standing, so he can still grab you, and if you backdash, your’e considered airborne after the invincibility, so he can still grab you. If you’re trying to avoid the attack, dashing isn’t a viable counter the majority of the time, that’s all i’m saying. So he can time it late or early to catch you when you’re vulnerable during any dash.

forward dash will probably work, if you go under him, but you’re vulnerable the entire time.

sorry let me put this another way. He’s at his Apex of his flip meaning he’s WAY above me…and I’ll go to dash and he’ll MP me. Or… I’ll be waking up and he’ll do it and he’s barely at me, but it’s obvious he’s flipping and I dash forward and I stand there.so this is happening in both situations. On my wake up, I don’t press block, I just mash dash.

But I’ll go test it. I was just asking while I was not at home.

AFAIK there is no flip setup where you would just stand there instead of dashing while not in blockstun or hitstun. I would guess it was just lag.

Or… he masterfully spaced and timed his flip so when you input your first forward he was on the right side and when you input your second forward direction he was on the left side? gasps

wtf, playing wolfkrones dudley again. and his straight fierce beats gen’s sweep. that’s fucked.

told you you gotta whiff punish it

ya but sometimes he’s punishing my sweep. it’s dumb as hell.

Does he counter you out or is he simply punishing on whiff/block?

he throws it out and once it’s stuck out I go to sweep and I get hit. I’ve tried it early as well, and before my sweep even comes out it hits me and I’m like max sweep distance, that thing is fucking godlike. I’m just not going to sweep vs it.

Yea, his fierce and f+HP’s can be hard to stuff once it’s out due to its long active time. The fact that Gen’s hurtbox protrudes forward during start-up doesn’t help either. The range of the s.HP is pretty short however, so moves like Mantis c.MK or Crane s.MK should be able to stuff them (Mantis c.MK is usually a better choice since Crane s.MK has shorter range than Dudley’s s.HP)
