SSF4 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (Old)

I thought all Reversals hit on the first frame?

No but they usually mask their startup frames with inv frames.

Holy shyte crane s.mk is awesome against hondas headbutts.

i need some sim advice.

basically with keeping the pressure on. i can get him to the corner, but im not really able to do anything really mke him fear being there.

typically, i corner him, then i get close, and he just blocks and crouch techs until im out of range of throw, then i get poked out further with b+lk, and far lk

maybe just keep pressuring with rolls?

dude not to be a dick, but you boosting or something?

5K PP is mostly japanese or top level tourney players

I dunno how you came to that conclusion. All I was saying was a move stuffs another move pretty awesome. A lot of Hondas use EX Headbutt to chip you out, and if you have good reaction, it stuffs like a jab. stuffed some less than mid screen. So where is this boosting thing coming from?

And no I don’t boost. I stopped using Anyone searches. And started to play same skill. Pays off, when you don’t loose 150PP to someone with 2000PP

Online is online. Top players or japanese only is bull shyte son. It’s not tournament play, it’s only online. Not hard to do. And one I’m not new to video games, and not new to competitive gaming. Especially not in the FPSer side of things.

Roll pressure.

Forward for split second Mantis s.MP pressure. Even using s.Jabs then walk forward for a slit frame between them works as well. You can get counter hits.

Switching to overhead then if they block, Mantis s.jab.

^Seconded. If you are able to get him in the corner, the hard part is already done. Practice the string (M)S.mp->©Cr.mp->hp roll. After last hit, either fadc->dash (then throw/mixup/rollstring again), lvl1 focus immediate release for CH crumple, or wait for them to jump and punish accordingly. May need to buffer a jab before the S.mp for charge time if you decide to loop the roll string.

Mix in S.mp->Sweep and S.mp->Overhead after scaring him with some frame traps. Of course, if they’re mashing s.lk you’ll get hit, but they will turtle you all day unless you mix it up. Any damage on sim is magnified Risk/Reward because it’s hard to come by.

The roll string builds a lot of meter, sets up a frame trap if you delay the timing of stance change, and actually does significant chip. Dhalsims typically lose their cool after two and do something stupid. The problem with Dhalsim is his J.mp and his AA normals. He can very effectively keep Gen out, but can’t force Gen out if Gen gets in.

If you can get him in the corner, either you’re great or the dhalsim needs work. Pretty sure it’s a soft 6-4, sim’s favor.

vs. Dhalsim: don’t jump in on him when you have him cornered because he can just lk.slide under you and switch sides quickly. And don’t forget the video Xaaz & Jav1ts posted on Yoga Sniper. Mantis U1 and (dash I think) hp.super should connect on hit and block.

voilà

thanks guys.

roll pressure is pretty big in this match. it made a definitive difference when i made sure every block string ended in roll or overhead instead of hands. my main sparring partner is a sim player, and he has been handing my ass to me in this match. like he beat me 25-0 one night. granted i usually experiment a lot in our sets, but even when im playing hard i cant win

last night i got a bunch more wins with the rolls. but things really turned when we found out sim cant do anything about hk oga to your wall, and far kick. it will beat all his normal anti airs and natural responses to jump ins. you move too fast for him to jump mp, and the slides are inconsistent for him in that situation. his only options are super and ultra or teleport towards the corner or almost pre-emptive jump mp. it even beats ex up flame.

we tested a bunch of responses. only thing we didnt try was far rh on reaction to you going to the wall

it makes getting in a lot easier because sim naturally wants to be 3/4 screen away, and that spacing makes far oga safe on block. obviously you prolly get punnished with jump mp if you are being predictable, and/or arent hiding your down charge

nah, i usually dont play online, but i randomly checked the US leaderboards and saw you are in 31st on XBL. between PR rog and Inthul, and right above mike ross. and only 400PP behind wolfkrone.

people say online dosent count because its a mash up of scrubs and actual good players. on XBL, players between 2500-4000PP sometimes are indistinguishable, so most will tell you that the point total dosent matter. but the further you move away from 4K, the more solid the competition is. at 5K and up you really only see the obvious boosters littered amongst tourney players, and online warriors that the tourney players know because they run into them a lot online

not gonna judge one way or the other tho. im jus sayin…

It really is just Sim’s j.mp. But it’s good enough. Most other stuff he has trades, including knee if not timed very expertly. I like to mix up Oga ceiling drops with Oga angled ceiling drops to whiff and land behind them. Usually, their first impulse is to tech. Do with that what you can.

Sim love to tech.

Also, nip the boosting drama in the bud and play some casuals. Then you can be better informed while smack talkin :stuck_out_tongue:

oh, nah, no drama. if he says he isnt then thats good enough for me. most games are full of leaderboard shenanigans. i cant go around being leaderboard police

I’ll admit, I’m no 4000+PP Gen right now. I’ve barely played if at all. And my gen is trash right now. I’ve been working on getting my data back so I can do this collaboration video. Also I’ve been playing Bad Company. I just played for the first time tonight, and got bodied by a Dudley player NotoriousTSK. Def felt really really rusty. But no I don’t boost, but I don’t claim to be the best Gen or anything. IMO Rhyllis is the best Gen in Canada. I only play gen in ranked so the only time I lose a lot of PP is when I play someone who has barely any. Which I stopped doing. I wish my Gen was amazing, but still working on it.

Need more matchup info on high level Vipers. Anyone play one often enough to give tips?

Hey Vanesco,

You should change your mvc3 team to Cap’t, Morrigan and Coke!

I can help. Viper’s regular Burning Kick is considered a projectile against Gen’s EX Oga, so whenever she uses the regular Burning Kick to cross-up after a Knockdown or using it during Mixups, it’s can be very helpful to escape these bad situations. The EX Oga can also work against her EX Burning Kick, but not during her Air Rolling Animation though.

Many times for me, I start off the round by being on the other side of the screen. When I’m on the other side, I stay in Crane and I just take very careful steps towards her, and while I’m doing that I use the Crane Neutral Jump Fierce so I can avoid being chipped/hit by the Seismic Hammer, and at the same time prevent her from getting a jump-in on me with the Burning Kick or something else. The thing that happens to me alot when the Viper player picks up on me using the Crane Neutral Jump Fierce, is that they dash forward to try and catch me in midair with the Thunder Knuckle. When this happens, I jump less, but I try to catch them with a sweep while they’re in dash animation upon landing.

I tend to use the Sweep alot against Viper, because her Reversal options are very slow and easy to safe jump, so I just try and go for a crossup/jump-in as much as possible against her when I’m within distance.

Most of the time I save all of my Meter for a Super, unless if I’m close to losing and want to reversal with EX Gekiro, or use EX Oga to escape her Burning Kick. Gen really is most threatening against Viper once he has a full Super, because any attempt from a Burning Kick and/or Seismic Hammer, even from the other side of the screen, puts her at the risk of being caught with the Zanei. It helps to limit her options.

Hope this is helpful.

Viper has really bad footsies. You can completely outpoke her at close range to S.Mk range. A lot of Viper players like to do Ex Seismo to catch a poke and get a punish. You can not get hit by this, you have to bait it and make them waste their meter. Ex Seismo is Viper’s best answer to Gen’s footsies.

Ex Oga goes through Burn Kicks and so does ©C.Mk.

She’s stupid easy to safe jump because her fastest, decent reversal, if I remember correctly, is 7 frames. OS Ex Gekiro beats her wakeup game hard. I’ll test it against EX Seismo feint, but I believe it beats all of her options.

The one thing I would recommend is don’t push too many buttons once she is finished a block string. Back off a bit to give yourself some range. Though she has bad footsies, she does have some nice frame traps that deal pretty good damage. I can’t give too much of a insight for high level because I’m 2-5 vs Wolfkrone. She is a character I need work with.
