thanks a lot guys, i really appreciate the advice youve thrown my way in regard to what gen can/should do
Let him backdash himself into the corner. Then put on corner pressure with mk hands and frame traps. You can’t option select her on the ground but on a jump in you can option select sweep i’m pretty sure, or maybe mantis ultra.
shouldnt gen be able to do an os meaty cr.lk/sweep.
you go for the cr.lk, then cr.lk+cr.hk
if the first cr.lk is hit or blocked, the second move will be a cr.lk. if she backdashes sweep comes out as the second move.
i dont know makoto that well, but shouldnt it still hit her backdash? or is it too fast?
I assumed she backdashes too far for that to work. And it’s probably too fast as well.
To add to the Akuma match-up;
Mantis s.RH beats out Akumas s.RH from mid to full range. If you play an Akuma that uses this alot (which is like 80% of them) start sitcking your foot out. if he starts focusing ur rh then switch to mk hands.
If i see that button I usually just predict it and cr.mk xx hands or super depending on if i have ultra or not.
does that really work…?.. do you have to be close to akuma?
i like this…
A freind of mine plays akuma and uses that allot. Till now i’ve been trying to focus it on reaction or prediction. Will give this ago.
I need a lot of help with the honda match-up. I’m talking very good, mike-ross protege players. You can’t get in because of headbutts and neutral Fierce, chip with mk->hands is negligible, good hondas don’t get hit by ogas, cant use focus. Any tips?
alot of crane stance and run away!!!
You want to keep Honda out and hit him with easy, short combos that keep him off of you and get back out.
Fly like a butterfly Sting like a Bee! Crane jump Fierce is prob your best friend and A to A roundhouse is decent. Crouching round house is a good anti air and of course lk Gekiro can help. You just have to know when to use it. Oh and standing crane jab works well after a cross-up.
Hahaha, that sounds a lot like my Zangief strategy. U2 I think is the best in this matchup if you can TK Crane Ultra. Personally, my concern was that there is no air game against honda (all Gen’s normals get destroyed by Honda’s j.HP, even j.lp and if he doesn’t jump you eat headbutt). I feel like I need to score a knockdown on honda to really make progress in the match, but no jump or oga requires you get around his jab->hhs, s.hk and unpunishable headbutt turtling. Just seems hopeless.
What I don’t understand is using s.lp (KKK) after a cross up. Aren’t you afraid of headbutts or oicho command throw? Or am I missing something.
Gen vs Honda is all about the ground game. Punish all jump ins(I repeat punish ALL jump ins, just one successful jump in makes it worth it for honda) and mk hands all day because his long range normals have long start up. Don’t cross up you’ll get auto corrected headbutt every time. Neutral jump hp gets AA for free in range of Mantis cr.hp and cr. hk.
Stop focusing so much on getting hits off, put a little of that focus into not getting hit.
got something for you other guys that test stuff.
versus rufus EX messiah followups. is there anything he can do to stop you from simply jumping foward over him.
i tried it versus overhead, low, flip, and delayed flip follow ups, and i didnt get hit once. you dont get to punnish him for blocking the follow up the right way, but from what i can tell it totally avoids any followup guessing/reaction blocking
i just want a secondary test result to be sure im not missing something
^^ This will certainly be tested tomorrow unless some1 else does it first.
how do I punish rufus’ ultra 2?? I HAVE 2 eat that chip damage?? There is Nothing I can do?? That is some bulshit.
Mike Ross v Nu match at NorCal regionals demonstrated the exact problems I was talking about with the matchup. Great, solid shit. Wouldn’t have wasted all that meter on tick throw attempts.
If you don’t mind taking some chip-damage, a lot of it.
Then I can teach you guys how to have Honda’s attempts at headbutts shut down with Gen.
And then, I can also teach you what to do and how to adapt after you’ve demonstrated that Honda’s main offensive weapon can’t do anything to you, then that’s where the REAL fun starts lol
I haven’t been on here, but I figured I can give my two cents.
Anyone interested in my thoughts on the Honda-Gen match-up?
Guy’s backdash? lol…
If you have balls, and good guessing game, try using Crane crouching fierce.
I always throw out the Crane crouching fierce if my opponent is too backdash-happy.
Heck, I like to throw it out on wake-up just because I know that if my opponent trades, then it works to my favor lol
Sure. I have to deal with a few honda’s locally that can make things difficult. I did find a few OSes today on Honda’s wake up that shut down some of his options
(Mantis) forward grab, safe jump MK, OS EX DP will beat any and all attempts at wake up headbutt clean including EX. This also beats all butt slams save for EX, in which case he goes through you and you both recover safely.
(Crane back grab), cross up jump MK OS Super will beat all forms of butt slam escapes and because of the timing he does not have time to charge for any headbutt
I find the honda match gets easier when you can shut down his reliable wake up options so you can work your offense a little more. In the footsie game I have had good luck with cMP over anything else but I am too new to Gen to say if that is really reliable or more than the Honda’s here just have worse footsie than me in general.
Nice option selects, thanks alot.
You’re right about s.mp being a good tool either way, it’s the only medium normal in the game that has like +3 (something like that) advantage on block anyway. I like to do two in a row sometimes just to see if my opponent pressed a button in between so I can do s.mp s.mp mk hands.
No problem. I am an Abel main so I am used to having all kinds of OSes on Honda wake ups which prompted me to test them.
Note: On the crane super OS you will want to make sure your jump in doesn’t hit too deep on his hit box. Aim to have your back foot hit his chest or belly and not head. In some tests I was too close so when I activated HK super and had Honda HK or EX butt drop the angles caused the super to whiff. This could be alleviated by using a different strength super but that makes it too much of a guess IMO. Good news is once I had the cross up MK hitting a little farther out no problem. I would post a vid but I dont have any decent vid capture equipment right now.
HNIC Mike: For jumping over Rufus’ messiah follow ups it should work on most things. But IIRC he can delay the LK follow up and it will smack you or just do nothing and you should end up even with him. (Note: This is from my experience with Abel’s fat ass hit box, so Gen may be able to jump over clean no matter what)
